    Daughter of Concerned Mother

Wow! There is so much I would like to say, but I am afraid it would overwhelm you. There is alot to unpack in your post. I hope as you go on your journey that you find a counselor or therapist to talk with you walk through your weight loss journey. You have not taken an easy way out. Anyone that says that to you does not understand the complexities of overeating and the relationship between eating and feelings. You are changing your relationship with food. Your Mom may not understand her relationship with food and feeding you. So get ready to experience a variety of emotions and seek out people who can support you in your efgort.

    Diabetic

Yes, the longer you have Type 2 Diabetes the more likely you will have high blood pressure, poor circulation in your legs, uncontrolled infections in different areas of the body, etc. Weight loss surgery helps you get your blood sugar back in contol. Just remember stay away from simple carbohydrates like bread, pasta, rice, crackers, white potatoes, etc. The by-pass surgery is most effective for diabetics because if you eat sugar it causes you to feel very uncomfortable with perspiration and feeling shakey. My diabetes got much better, but has not completely gone away. That is because I have allowed simple sugars back into my life. I was sleeved June 28, 2016. So I am working to eliminate it again, but I have discovered that I have used simple sugars as a reward after I accomplish something or feel emotionally down. I am 62 also.

    How to quit sugar ?!?!?!?

I also make ice cream out of my Bariatric Advantage Protein powder with frozen berries and 8 Oz of vanilla light soy milk. That has been fabulous this summer. Still learning how to eat soft foods. Have to slow wayyyy down and pause during eating to watch out for too much air getting in. Burp until it eases. That part is no fun but part of the learning curve. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    How to quit sugar ?!?!?!?

I stopped drinking diet soda a long time ago. (Ten years) But I had a love for cake and Cookies and pies, oh my! I am four weeks post op and have found sugar free pudding to be the thing that satisfies my desire for sweet and creamy Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    Insurance Says NO! BSCA

I ended up paying for mine with a medical loan because I had waited so long trying to get my insurance to pay for mine. First I had to wait five years at my job to be eligible, then I had to participate in 12 months of supervised diet and prove I had two co-morbidities. It ended up being cheaper doing private pay, than using my insurance. So it made no sense to keep waiting. I bit the bullet and got the loan. I am so happy I did. I have not lost as much weight this week, but I started eating more food and drinking the Protein Meal Replacement less. I also began walking more. I can tell my old bugaboos are still there. Carbs I have to be especially careful about. I think the crackers I have been eating is what is slowing the weight loss. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
