August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Véronique replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wish that were true, but every time I phone my surgeon's office, I get this one nurse who is anything but helpful. She refuses to answer my questions. It drives me up the wall. -
As a newbie I'm asking "What kinda site is this?"

Well, yeah because our world isn't all sunshine and rainbows blown up your butt 24/7/365. ESPECIALLY in a capitalist system, there is going to be suffering and heartache. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I think on Tuesday, I'll be seven weeks out, though I just went in for my six-week check on Friday the 13th. I don't know if my sleep apnea has been abated or not, but I am wondering when I should go in for another sleep study to check on that. My three-month check is at the end of November (as well it should be, my surgery was at the end of August) and I'm worried about hitting my target, as they say that I should be down 60 lbs (or 27,2 kg) at that point. If I lose at my current rate, I should be down 23,6 kg, which isn't nothing but is a few kilos shy of that target. I'm week 6, I think I'm out of the woods for my second stall (that does get so frustrating) and I'm down 11.8 kg, personally. I'm curious though, what was your starting point? My podiatrist recommended New Balance shoes for me, but I might ask her next time I see her about a foot brace. Maybe that might help, my surgeon DID say at my six-week check on Friday that I might be able to hit the 60-70% of total weight loss at six months instead of twelve months if I exercise. I imagine my results would be better if my form could improve. -

The reason why I'm hoping so much that my plantar fasciitis abates is because my ability to exercise is hindered by the sharp pain in my arches (or, more specifically, my plantar fascia). My last GP thought the problem was exacerbated by an edema in my legs which is exacerbated by... sleep apnea. So hopefully, the sleep apnea will abate, the edema will abate and I can have no pain in my arches which means... I can do hot yoga again! And I hope it'll be soon, because sometimes, I watch workout instruction vids and try to replicate them at Planet Fitness and I just can't do it on my own. I need a class with an instructor and a bunch of other people so I can see how to improve what I'm doing. -

As have I. So far, I've lost roughly 10 kg, which is 1/8th of my excess weight. I had two big stalls and I just got over my last big stall a few days ago. In fact, I'm just 0,1 kg away from where I was before my last gain/stall/lose cycle. It feels like the hokey pokey. I put some kg off, I put some kg on, I put some kg off and I try to shake it off. I do the hokey pokey and I turn myself about... that's what I'm upset about! -

Everything still fits, which is a bummer, though if my plantar fasciitis goes away, I would consider that a GINORMOUS win. And hopefully soon, winter is coming to Colorado and that aggravates it like nothing else does. -
So, I was walking down 28th street in Boulder after having to throw some money into the bank and in order to get to the bus stop to get back to Longmont, I passed by a McDonald's. There was a lady sitting on the patio telling me to come over to her. I said that I don't have time because I didn't (though if I did, I am not going to spend it in the sun). She then told me she had a bag full of big Macs she wanted to give me and holding back the rage anyone on a liquid diet feels, I again said no. So she then said "but they are hot and juicy", to which my response was "DON'T TEMPT ME!"... And for as loud as I said it, I'm actually surprised I didn't curse. Even though I have a newfound appreciation for solid food since I've been drinking my meals, I'm not going to eat garbage! Since Sunday, my weight is down 6,6 kilos (or 14.5 lbs) and if I want a burger, I'm going to make myself one using healthy ingredients.

Yeah, I have so many leftovers nowadays, I see the need to buy a microwave.

I have my six-week check on Friday and I weighed in today at 135,2 kg. Since my weight on the day before surgery was 145,6 kg and they say they expect me to lose 10% of my total weight (not my excess, which considering the midpoint for a healthy BMI was 65 kg for my height and age, means that my excess is roughly 80 kg), I would need to lose an additional 4,2 kg before Friday in order to hit that target. There's no way that's happening. -

A friend of mine actually saw a picture of me and said that my face is looking thinner. I dunno how accurate that is, but here's the picture I took: -

It lasts as long as it feels like lasting. Sorry I can't give you more info that that, but for everyone it's different and the reasons why you're stalling can differ from the reasons others are stalling. -

No sh!t, sherlock. I'm aware of this. The immediacy and severity of the reaction helped to reinforce that fact. -

... No. I was actually surprised that the night after I checked out of the hospital, I was pooping. I was surprised because I wouldn't be moved to soft foods for another week and a half and I wasn't having puréed anything. But the binder they gave me for taking care of myself after the surgery did tell me both diarrhea and constipation were possibilities for after surgery, so they recommended Immodium and Colace respectively for each condition. Well, I know dumping syndrome is accompanied with dizziness, sweating and eventually, you toss your food. I think I might have it, as when I went to my GP's office for my first follow-up appointment after the surgery with her (but not with the surgeon, as I was still on full liquids/puréed foods), I experienced it. You see, since I was on full liquids/puréed foods and had not adequately prepared for this visit (I did have my medications, but not something to eat). So, I stopped off at Dairy Queen to get a shake. Yeah, I know, poor choice but I was kinda craving it and asked myself why not? Well, I figured out why not shortly after having it. I started getting sweaty and dizzy and I had to puke up the entire shake once I got into the bathroom. Now, I'm not sure WHY it happened, as I have had a few sweet things after the surgery and haven't experienced this. -

Yeah, I've been gaining over the past couple of days, which blows. Since Thursday or so, I've gained 1,3 kg back. I know that looking at the bigger picture, I'm doing fine but looking at how much I lose on a day to day basis, I'm thinking "how long does this take?", knowing full well that I probably will take a year to a year and a half to achieve my goal weight. -

I know I've lost roughly 0,3 kgs since yesterday (as I said, my scale hasn't synched with the wifi), putting me at approximately 298,6 lbs (I think, again, without the exact data synched, this will be tough to say). Weighing myself everyday does have the side effect of making the progress feel slow, but I think looking at the aggregate, I've already lost 10% of my excess weight and I'm 6.84 kg (or roughly 15 lbs) away from reaching 20% of my excess weight lost. -

Yesterday when I weighed in, for the first time in a long time, I've weighed in at under 300 lbs. I am down again today but since my scale isn't synching with the wifi and is set in stone pounds for some reason (I dunno why), I couldn't tell you. -

I think I'm stalled again. I'm not gaining a lot, maybe 0,05 kg one day while losing 0,1 kg the next. -

So far this month, I've lost 8,5 kg (or 18,7 lbs) and I'm five (5) days away from being one month post-op. Since my excess weight is 79,7 kg, I've already surpassed the 10% mark. -

Why not cream of potato soup made with milk to help get your protein numbers up? -

I am starting to hit my numbers (or pretty close to them) without the aid of protein powder but I do wonder about the cost-effectiveness of how I'm doing it, so I am going to do a bit of comparison shopping. Oh goody, something to be self-conscious about. I haven't noticed anything different personally but my sense of perception about things like that isn't always the best. -

That's a terrible piece of advice. What if you don't have hunger cravings? I know after my surgery, I don't, so that would be woefully irresponsible advice to give. -
Pretty sure my stall is broken. Booyah!
-
I know, right? It did get me to recommit to logging all my meals in MyFitnessPal so I have data on it, and so far, I haven't broken my streak.
-
Good luck! I know that my stall is coming and that I need to start logging my meals like I should be! I have done well so far but I know as more weight sheds it will become harder and harder to loose it and that i will have to really monitor my activity as well as what goes into my big mouth!!!
-
Yeah, I'm planning to get a new Apple Watch so I can get a better picture of my activity, as it would help improve my understanding of my heart rate when working out as well as the return to a resting heart rate.
