August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Véronique replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was stalled for the past week or so. Not to mention I'm still getting over seasonal allergies (or maybe it was the flu?) in that I'm still coughing but my throat isn't as sore as it was last Tuesday. But when I weighed in today, I'm glad to see some indication that my latest stall might be broken. I started a new job, which means that until i move up closer to the new job (which has a Pilates studio between work and an apartment complex I'm looking into), fitting working out into my daily schedule is a bit trickier... though not impossible. I am looking into going back to a kickboxing gym I used to go to in Boulder when I get my first pay cheque (which is going to be on black Friday). -
Clif Builder's Protein Bars - 20g of Protein
Véronique posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
So, as someone who has been told I need to consume 85 g of protein after the surgery, hitting that number is tough. But, when I saw that Amazon was selling boxes of Clif bars that have 20 g of protein per serving, I knew I had to give it a go (couldn't be worse than protein shakes, right?). So, tonight while I was at the grocery store, I bought one of the chocolate flavoured protein bars, one of the chocolate peanut butter protein bars and a box (because they weren't selling them in singles) of Chocolate Mint protein bars. Tonight, I tried the chocolate protein bars and I'll say... it's edible...ish. I mean, I could choke it down but I'm literally counting the seconds until I can drink something, as the taste is AWFUL. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be lingering in my mouth like Isopure or Carnation Instant Breakfast, but it isn't good. I mean, it's not so bad that it's making my gag reflex kick in, but it is horrible. Tomorrow, I'll review the other two flavours and let you know if they're any better. -

When I was walking either to or from the bus stop today, I was thinking that maybe my issue with the relatively slow weight loss is the fact that I have sleep apnea? I mean, I'm doing as much tracking as I can and I'm doing pretty good according to the guidelines my surgeon's office is giving me (albeit, I'm rarely hitting my protein goal of 85 g per day, so I'm trying to hit a reduced goal of 60 g per day). I'm wondering, once my sleep apnea abates, will my weight loss accelerate? -
Water, Water Everywhere...
Véronique replied to hap314ness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know the feeling. I have a hard time tolerating water unless it's cooled at the right temperature, based on the flavour. I'm thinking about getting some water delivered to my house, as using a Brita filter just isn't cutting it and I know I'm not getting my numbers in. -
Just looking for some relief from all the god people here
Véronique replied to sunmeadow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Precisely. If there was a god, why the hell would we need surgery to attain weight loss? Doesn't the Bible say something along the lines of if any two people ask something in his name, God will deliver? Pretty sure given the negative attitudes towards people of size, it shouldn't be too hard to find a second person to sign off on that, so to speak and god would just magic away the weight. ... But since he's a fictional character, that never happens. So, we have to do the work since there is no god to help. -
Clif Builder's Protein Bars - 20g of Protein
Véronique replied to Véronique's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Holy sh!t, you're right. I just looked at the wrapper again and there it is: 21g of sugar. You wouldn't think it, given how utterly awful it tastes, but there it is in black & white. Sure, maybe from a nutritional standpoint, the Clif bars are just as awful as their taste. However, every protein shake I've attempted thus far has engaged my gag reflex and I'd like to hit my protein quota (since I've been having a hard time with it). -

I'm trying some Clif protein bars, because they have 20 grams of protein. Today, I tried the chocolate "flavoured" bar and tomorrow, I'll try the other two flavours and review them over on this thread. Spoiler alert: I don't have much hope of any of these tasting even remotely decent. -

Trust me, I know the feeling. I'm seeing everyone here (who was at, or roughly around, my starting weight) talk about how they've lost 60 or so pounds and I'm here at 34 pounds lost in 2 months. While I know that rationally, 34 pounds is a good number to have lost, I'm still frustrated, going HOW LONG DOES THIS TAKE?!? ... Oh, and I have an intro pilates class at a new pilates studio in Fort Collins tomorrow, which is pretty close to my new work place... and my surgeon's office. -
Cosmetic Surgery, Post-Sleeve, and NSAIDs?
Véronique replied to Véronique's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Well, the particular surgeon I'm looking at is for cosmetic surgery that is only tangentially related to my having bariatric surgery. I'm looking at getting facial feminization surgery and the guy whose before & after photos look the best to me is Dr. Zukowski in Wilmette, Illinois (the Chicago area). The only two barriers to having it are: Money. It's hella expensive. My quote is for $30,500... and that's just the surgery! I still have to factor in hotel and airfare. Fortunately, I just got a new job that will help pay that cost down a lot faster than the one I'm leaving, but Getting (close) to my goal weight. Now, since I haven't been skinny in my adult life, I am only basing my goal weight based on the midpoint of healthy weights based on my height, age and gender. But based on my projections, I should have it next September or October. -
Cosmetic Surgery, Post-Sleeve, and NSAIDs?

Also, forgive any spelling mistakes. I just switched to Firefox from Chrome and for some reason, it only has the French spellcheck dictionary and not the English one as well. -
Cosmetic Surgery, Post-Sleeve, and NSAIDs?
Véronique replied to Véronique's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Well, my surgeon says (and I know different surgeons say different things, so YMMV) that because having had gastric sleeves makes us more likely to have a bleeding ulcer and that since NSAIDs are also likely to cause bleeding ulcers, that the risk is too high in taking NSAIDs and that it's best to take pain relievers that aren't NSAIDs, like Tylenol. -
Cosmetic Surgery, Post-Sleeve, and NSAIDs?
Véronique replied to Véronique's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Yeah, true. Is there anything they'd use in surgery that could be a NSAID? I mean, I looked it up and Oxycodone is not a NSAID but that's what I'd likely get once I leave the surgery centre, not while I'm under anaesthesia. -

I know the feeling. I had a flight between Denver, Atlanta, and Tampa on Southwest for an OWL training for my church and I needed a seatbelt extender for the first time in my life. But yeah, now I'm at 130 kg and I'm officially down 10% of my total body weight and 18.4% on my way to my estimated goal weight (65 kg). Also, my clothes aren't fitting loose yet but since my weight is still going down, I am willing to smile at that. -

Today, I was phone banking with a few people from the Green Party and it was a potluck event. I had some (vegan) meat & spaghetti and even though I got (what I thought was) a small amount of pasta but I couldn't even eat a quarter of that. But at least one of the other volunteers was happy to eat what I couldn't. -

August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Véronique replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We had the surgery on the same day and it's roughly 28 lbs for me, but I have a lot more to lose (my starting weight was 319 and my goal weight is roughly 165). -

I've been working on the same chicken caesar salad for since I got it for last night's dinner. I had it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner today too. -

Véronique replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, I weighed in this morning and so far, I've lost another 0,8 kg. Yesterday, though, I went down to Denver to see a friend and before I left, she gave me a ziploc bag full of cookies and a ziploc bag full of candy. Naturally, those things went into the trash once I got home. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Véronique replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm down 11,5 kg (25 lbs) since the surgery and 16,5 kg (35 lbs) since going on the pre-op diet. While it is going slower than I would like, I must say, I like the trend of my weight going DOWN rather than up. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Véronique replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wish I were that lucky. My weight loss since the day of surgery is 12,2 kg (or 26,8 lbs). Don't get me wrong, that's somewhat good (it *is* a fifth or sixth of what they ARE expecting me to lose total), but it feels quite slow given what everyone else here is reporting. -
Amazon Announces post-merger Whole Foods Will Stop Gouging People
Véronique replied to Véronique's topic in Food and Nutrition
Yeah, having had my surgery the day after the merger (including spending the night before in Fort Collins, so I could get to the surgeon's office in time), I haven't been in to see the new Whole Foods and their pricing structure. I'm thinking about going the next time I go grocery shopping just to see how the prices are shaking out. -
Amazon Announces post-merger Whole Foods Will Stop Gouging People
Véronique posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
So, when I was pissing away time on Facebook today, I saw an article that Whole Foods will start marking down prices on Monday and will start integrating Amazon Prime into their system to offer special deals to people with that service. So, I did some research and I found the press release from Amazon and it looks pretty legit. As someone who has been eating organic for the last 2 years or so, I'm hoping this turns out to be true. What do you think about this development?
