HELP - Keeping food in me!!!
Bunny replied to cgrossholz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cgrossholz-Are you taking very small bites and chewing thoroughly? This is the most difficult part for me to this day. Also, once you vomit the food, you should go on liquids for the remainder of the day until the swelling goes down. If you continue to try to eat solids, you cause further irritation and swelling creating a vicious cycle of vomiting. Been there...done that. Do liquids but call your doc as well. -
PB stands for Productive Burp meaning you burp up food. I have seen some use it to refer to vomiting. There is a thread I stumbled across that had the meaning to many of the acronyms used on this site....I saved it as a Favorite. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/abbreviations-what-they-mean-7959/ I cannot eat in the mornings. Anything I drink in the morning that is cold I have to sip. Hot beverages like coffee or hot tea go down almost as they did pre-surgery.

Jan_08, I experienced something very similar. After I vomited the chicken, I thought I could try more food but just chew better. This made thing entirely worse. Water would only go down if I warmed it up and sipped it slowly. Warm/hot liquids seem to go down better after something like this happens. I drank coffee, warm water and broth for the next day and 1/2 until the swelling went down. Then, went to the mushy phase. Typically, if you have to vomit you should be on liquids the rest of the day at least.

1/2 a cup? I don't think so...
Bunny replied to redrockgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the Special K Protein water too like Heidabear was talking about. I get hungry in the evenings but don't like to eat after 6pm...7pm at the latest. The fiber in the Special K water really helps with the hunger. I definitely can barely eat 1/2 cup, but before the fills it was nothing like that. FILLS ARE THE KEY! -
Anyone need another fill after your sweet spot?
Bunny replied to Jennie1976's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been at my "sweet spot" since Thanksgiving and do not need another fill. I am actually thinking about getting .2cc's taken out. I have been very tight since then...only able to eat about 3 bites of food...afraid I may gain by having any taken out. I have allowed the band to create a false sense of self-control and I am not sure that I will be able to tell myself to "stop". .2 make make the journey just a little bit more comfortable for me. As tight as I am, I don't think I will need another fill for a few months. -
hollyu2-I drink coffee every single day. 1 to 2 cups in the morning made with Splenda and non-dairy creamer. Sometimes, I will have an additional cup in the evening. I have never been told to stay away from it. I'm about to head to Starbucks now and get some...the Skinny Menu is great...sugar-free and non-fat!!!!

3 days post op and hungry
Bunny replied to cantweight2go's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bugalu, I was hungry around day 10. My doc's support staff prepared me for this and told me to make my protein drinks thicker during this time. Add a banana or something...it helped. Not having a BM, IMO, is nothing you should worry about because you probably haven't eaten much of anything to produce a BM. My cousin had her surgery 2/20 and experienced the same BM thing. She is fine. -
I needed the scale to move at one point...about 2-3 pounds...and took a laxative and drank plenty water...it worked...just had some things i needed to get rid of...High protein diets can stall things sometimes. This should not become a habit. I only did this the one time.

AandMsmom, I agree with Shortgal that maybe smaller fills closer together will be better for you. I also agree that you have to diet, if you want to lose weight, before you reach that sweet spot. I have a 10cc band with a fill of 7.2. My doc put in 2cc's during surgery and my subsequent fills were 2cc's, 2cc's, .8cc's and .4cc's...something like that. (Oh, I weigh every morning...guess I am compulsive too). Anyway, I told my fill nurse practicioner that I wasn't trying to tell her how to do her job but I wanted her to be as aggressive as she could be. I haven't needed a fill since November...I am tight. Here is the thing, I WAS HUNGRY all the time until I had decent restriction. When I asked her to be aggressive with the fill she asked me, "Well, are you eating more because you seem to be experiencing a good weight loss?" My response to her (with kinda an attitude) was "I COULD eat more BUT I am doing everything I can to NOT eat more." So, you are not alone, but I did make sure ALL of my beverages were low to 0 calories...hot teas with Splenda, and more tea...chai tea w/low-carb milk (HOOD brand), coffee...JELLO, meats (to stay low-carb). My attitude with her came from the same frustration you are feeling. I wanted to lose weight and I needed to get decent restriction ASAP. But, different people want different things. Hang in there. Here is another view that is out there to explain people wanting different things. Some say, after you get restriction, you have plenty time to lose weight so dieting was not that important to them before they had decent restriction. It's all about what you want and when you want it.

What is your Fill Level in a 10 cc AP Band?
Bunny replied to Motocrossgirly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a 10 cc band with 7.2cc's. I cannot imagine being tighter. I can barely eat a half cup of food. My doc put in 2 cc's during surgery 1st fill was 2 cc's 2nd fill was 2 cc's 3rd fill was .8 cc's 4th fill was .4cc's which was in November. I have not needed a fill since then. -
Still don't know what to eat,after 6mths!!
Bunny replied to REDGIRL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Janet-I have a question for you. What size band do you have and how filled are you? My breakfast story is not different from many others...I can't eat in the mornings. I normally drink coffee or a Skinny Latte from Starbucks. I can barely eat 1/2 cup at at time of anything unless it's soup or chili...I guess that's the goal, but you seem to be able to eat more food and are still experiencing progressive weight loss. I was thinking about getting unfilled by .2 cc's or so to see if I can enjoy a meal. I have a 10 cc band with a fill of 7.2. My weight loss is going well but it is often very frustrating that I can only eat literally about 3 bites of food. Any more and it's coming up. -
Oh snap....pre-op diet...can I cheat at all?
Bunny replied to Manda_T's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definitely do not want to tell you to cheat, but I will say there are several docs who do not require a pre-op diet. Honestly, my doc told me no sugars and no fried foods. No sugars...no problem...but I had some fried mushrooms...a lot of them...I didn't really lose much weight pre-op...maybe 6 lbs but then I gained back three just before the surgery. So, it varies from doc to doc. I don't think anything is wrong with a nibble here or there if you can stick to just a nibble. -
Hey, Ya'll from Dallas! I was banded in Sept '07 and I can tell you that this is the best thing I could have ever done for myself. This path has not really been that difficult for me...grateful! I will say the hardest part is chewing 50 million times and eating s...l...o...w...l...y. It remains a struggle. Sometimes, I create trouble for myself by eating too quickly. I just want to say that you will do well if you use your tool properly. Stay on this board for support.

POLL - Whats your sweet spot in 10cc band?
Bunny replied to bunnykin4u's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a 10cc band with 7.2cc's fill. Total of 3 fills with my last one in November and my restriction has been perfect since then. I have had to cancel all of my fill appts since that time. I cannot eat more than 1/2 cup of solids...sometimes less than that. Though, today I was able to eat an entire can of chili. I still can't eat in the mornings...I just drink something warm. I will monitor my eating and see if I need to get another fill. The chili thing kinda threw me for a loop today. -
I went back and forth about the surgery as well due to outside pressures. I finally decided that I have spent much of my 34 years of living trying to please others and I needed to do something for me...which was okay. I also found out that some people do not want you to change because of how it may affect them. But, you have to do what's best for you. If everyone could do it on their own, no one would have a weight problem. It's more than diet and exercise. People who have never had a weight problem often do not understand this. So, I encourage you to take care of you. Another thing, you will hear this over and over...the BAND is only a TOOL. It is NOT the easy way out. Just as easily as I drink my protein drinks, I could just as easily drink a milkshake...you know what I mean???...so, don't let anyone deter you if this is what you have determined is best for you.

Cookienay, let me tell you...it gets much better...the gas hurts like heck in your shoulder and you will find yourself watching the food NETWORK and cooking shows during this time. At least, I did. My cousin had her surgery yesterday and is experiencing some of the same things. You will get through this much sooner than you think. What have you done? If you are like me and many others on this site, you have done one of the best things ever!!!:grouphug:

Left arm pain when walking-suggestions please!
Bunny replied to vegors's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am no doctor but it sounds to me what my doctor and books I have read call "referred pain". Basically, your shoulder hurts like heck but it's normal and relates to gas. For me, the pain was the worst of all pain associated with the surgery. If they had not forewarned me, I would have been completely freaking out!! The pain lasted about a week and a half for me. Call your doc anyway. They probably should have set better expectations for you. Basically, they told me my shoulder was going to really hurt and around 10 days out I would be completely hungry and that I should make my Protein drinks thicker during that time. -
Yep, we celebrated my uncle's birthday and at a seafood buffet restaurant and they let me pay the children's rate of $2.99. I talked to the Cashier as soon as I arrived b/c I was NOT going to pay $14 either for 1/2 cup of food. I just would have not eaten if they would not have agreed. I was very appreciative and showed them my plate after I made it. But, at most restaurants I just order soup or take home leftovers.

JillS-gas...YES, stomach cramps...no. I was banded 9/10/07 and the gas was horrible...all in my shoulder. That's expected and is normal. I didn't have stomach cramps though.

Bloo, this is my first time ever posting. Your post caused me to register. I can relate to a lot of what you are talking about but these experiences for me were before the surgery. I have a 10cc band with 7.2cc's and I could not overeat if I wanted to, but it's different for everyone. I wonder if you need a tighter fill which would almost force you to find another way to deal with things besides food. Strive to be positive...33 lbs lost is still great! Try not to compare yourself to others. Just know that with the band, if you fall off the wagon, you can always get back on. When you get the perfect restriction, things will be much better. Do yourself a favor...change your username and the description underneath from "BLOO OBESE" to something positive or funny!! Well, I am not sure if the BLOO part signifies for you being blue or down...it very well may not. Anyway, we are all here to support one another and a good friend told me that until I changed the negative way I spoke of myself, my situation would not truly change. So, try starting with that. It completely helped me. I became hopeful instead of sorrowful. You are NOT alone. Your lapband buddies are here for you.
