  1. Quick update. I am now 14 months post VSG bariatric surgery and I am down 258 lbs. . My high weight was 560.lbs. the day i met the surgeon i was 509 lbs.. surgery day 424 lbs and this morning 249 lbs. Everything has been speeding up for me in the last 2 months . Physical barriers I had for years seem to be crumbling. 3 months ago I could not walk without using a walker. I exercised on a treadmill holding the handles in a death grip. Now I lift weights 5 days a week and I walk 45-60 minutes almost every day ( weather depending ) around my neighborhood, no walker, no problem doing it. I have started using the stairs as well. Something I couldnt do for over a decade. I still use my walker...as a rolling TV trable...I have 82 lbs left to reach my goal of 175 lbs but i probably carry 40 lbs of lose skin and lymphodema on my thighs. It is time to start the process to try and be approved for plastic reconstructive surgery. This is tough as I live in Canada and plastics are not covered by our healthcare system. To buy a plastic surgeon privately for the extent that I would require is around $45,000 . Not an option . I am still dropping around a pound every 24 hours at the moment With no stopping in sight. I am excited to begin this last leg of my losing phase and hopefully get some skin removal approved . Being a chef, having basketball sized Lymphoedema on my thighs make working impossible right now so I am working full time on myself. I am also working on a bariatric cookbook at the request of my surgeon for his future patients. I am on myfitnesspal with my journal open for all to see. I think the accountability is a great thing. Anyone who would like to add me is more than welcome the more the merrier my fitness pal tag is ShrinkingGordon.

    Chicken wings

I ate 2 wings skin and all from a rotisserie chicken yesterday. I felt guilty when I seen the 15 g fat but they are also 20g Protein. I say if its a rare treat go for it. Do not make it a weekly affair and you are just fine. Life happens. Just remember the 80/20 rule. VSG 04/07/16. HW 509. SW 424. CW 354
  3. I was told to not worry about calories .. Focus on Fluid intake mostly. Try drinking low fat milk in place of Water. Add Protein powder and or skim milk powder to boost the protein and calories. VSG 04/07/16. HW 509. SW 424. CW 354

    3 month stall

I dropped roughly 4 lbs a week months 2 and 3. Last week I dropped 11 lbs. . Stalls can last days or 3 weeks..the trick is to ignore them and keep on doing what you were taught by your team. You will wake up soon and miraculously be 10 lbs down over night... Also do you measure yourself?. I was told the body needs stalls to readjust its hormones, chemical balances. Metabolism etc..you will shrink inches while this happens but not drop, weight per say. All normal and even necessary. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Telling People about WLS

After surgery you will be a better employee. Faster, more stamina, less risk of injury , illness claims or time off. .. I have been very open about my VSG. So far everyone ( except my mom who feared i would die on the table) is very supportive. Yesterday a female friend i went to dinner with jokingly said I traded in my food addiction for anorexia 4 months ago. It made me laugh as i am still over 350 lbs and 5 foot 5. Will I ever get my energy back?

Don't forget your body is pretty much mildly starving because of the new sleeve. You are not eating enough to sustain your weight..thats the whole point of it. I am 4 months post vsg and I still tend to need a mid afternoon rest.,. It will improve..just keep doing what you're doing. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  7. Remember pea sized bites ..chew each 30 times...spend 30-45 minutes eating your 3-4 ounces of food. You are still swollen and you also need to figure out your bodies new signals from your sleeve that you are not behaving..small slow chewed well bites. I am 4 months out. I get that feeling if i eat too fast or take a gulp of Water even. It will get better and if you are smarter than me you will quickly retrain yourself to eat correctly for your brand new tummy. 8. I had my vsg april 7. I too struggle with liquids. Even now over 6 weeks out I barely get 7 cups of liquid a day. I found skim milk easier to swallow than Water for some reason. I also found drinking from a glass far better than from a bottle. Also ice cold was easiest on me. I hope this helps. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Hating eating right now

Haha me too. I still drink Protein shakes 6 weeks out. There is nothing pleasant about the first 4-6 weeks eating post op. Its a small price to pay overall right?? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  10. i told her about my concerns with drinking enough and explained thats why i drink 3 shakes a day. It kills 2 birds with one stone.. Protein and 8 oz fluids in the same timeframe. I didn't mention my fears of bringing back my hunger. I may bring it up with my councillor. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  11. So I was sleeved April 7 th. My surgeons plan has me on soft foods now however I find it nearly impossible to eat anything more solid than cottage cheese. I drink shakes to get my Protein goals. 3 shakes a day. I also have a very high protein goal at 137g a day. I have tried shrimp, tuna, corned beef( canned ). I tried blending them in a magic bullet with mayo to make moist. It all sits in a lump in my throat no matter haw slow i eat or how much i chew. I also can never get more than 42 oz fluids a day in. I seen my dietician yesterday for my 6 week post op.. She wants me to drink less shakes and add in more food but I don't know how. I also find myself wrestling with " i don't want to eat ..I am not at all hungry.. I have not felt hunger once since surgery. I know this won't last and struggle with forcing myself to eat knowing it will probably trigger my hunger to start again. This terrifies me. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  12. it was my bariatric dietician who set my protein goal. It was 83-94 g but was upped to 137 to aide in healing an ulcer on my leg. I use a 1/2 cup baking measure as a dish. I fill the 1/2 cup container about 3/4 full if liquid or weight out 2 oz if a solid Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  13. no never. I am trying to eat what I can it is just very unpleasant feeling in my throat every time. Plus I just want to ride the not hungry boat as far as I can. I know it only lasts a few months. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-opp and fluids.

Water is important, your liver stores crap it can not eliminate in your fat. As you loose weight rapidly on the liver shrinking diet and then post op.all those toxins will be re released into your blood for your liver to re process. You need to drink lots to help your body flush them out. Also post op drinking is a %%#\+ ( i am 6 weeks out..i drink maybe 6 glasses a day yet I am always sipping) Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    I can't eat anything :(

I am exactly 6 weeks post vsg today. I understand where you are coming from..sort of. I too can hardly eat anything other than Protein shakes and if I am lucky a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese a day. Even fluids are tough still. I average 800 calories a day. I had my 6 week post op with my nutrition Ist yesterday. She was happy with my progress. I was also told during my pre op,seminars that our new tummies can be just fine today and cranky as heck tomorrow with no rhyme nor reason. Just my thoughts... Getting obsessed![emoji33]

I was sleeved April 7 th so almost as long as you. You are doing amazing. I am still preferring to eat puree foods. I cringe at the thought of a nacho in my throat. If you ate 850 calories that sure is not cheating. I am averaging 800-850 a day and I am doing 3 Protein shakes a day usually 2 meals of 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or pureed chilli. Testing your new sleeve seems normal to me. I probably will too once I am feeling as well as you. Just don't make it a habit. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
