Anyone have or going to have surgery with Tijuana Bariatrics/Dr Garcia?
azsoul replied to speechiegirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had surgery with Dr. Garcia May 26th and have no regrets. The whole thing seems like a dream--I can't believe it happened already. Tijuana Bariatrics was great and CER was a nice facility. (No construction happening when I was there). Great team and very well organized process from check in to check out. Best wishes to you on your surgery!! I had my sleeve about 3 months ago. I just had some blood work done and they said I was dehydrated. I still like Water but I used to drink more water faster. Now I can't gulp the water or take more than 2 swallows at a time. I am drinking significantly less because it just takes longer. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Very emotional and need support
azsoul replied to Admanda's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even if you decided not to have the surgery your eyes have still been opened to what is in his heart. He has his own issues and with or without you he needs to get those resolved. Nothing you do or don't do with your life will fix his issues--that's on him. So the best thing you can do is take care of you. Also lean on (or find if you don't have) other supports in your life--those that genuinely care about your happiness. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I went to Tijuana 2 months ago and everything went great. Fyi there are quite a few posts on this site about going to Mexico for the surgery so you might enjoy browsing some of those for info. Good luck on your big day! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

No support, Traveling to Mexico, alone...
azsoul replied to Marie1120's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery in Tijuana in May and met several people in the hospital who were there alone. It will be fine. The whole trip to Mexico is like a blur now. All went well and I am enjoying adding new foods into my diet weekly, trying on smaller clothes and acknowledging the compliments of people who notice I've lost weight. But even better--I feel better and can do more--had more fun than ever playing outside with my grandkids when I visited them last week. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Surgery in Mexico
azsoul replied to robs_vsg_journey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had Vsg with Dr. Garcia in Tijuana. Facility was new, staff was great and surgery went well. I would highly recommend. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My BMI was between 34 and 35 and I didn't have any of the comorbid conditions thankfully but I had the surgery anyways. Insurance wouldn't pay so I self paid in Mexico. I had the vertical sleeve. I gained and lost weight my whole life and at age 55 I knew if I didn't get to healthy weight I would start going downhill fast. I didn't agree that I should wait to be in poorer health to then undergo surgery. I wanted to give myself the best odds at achieving my goals and staying healthy. It's different for everyone so I agree an informational seminar and doc consult is best. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Questions for the surgeon
azsoul replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're having the sleeve surgery maybe ask how many incisions there will be; do they sew over the top of the staples as extra protection against leakage; will you have a drain tube; do they do the leak test while you are in surgery or the next day. Those are ones I was curious about. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Best of luck on Monday! Don't be discouraged if you gain the prep weight loss back after surgery. It's just Water gain and it will come off. Love the saying about creating yourself! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Vsg at cer hospital in tijuana or mi doctor? Please help!
azsoul replied to Dteux.vsg's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I went through Tijuana bariatrics and they made everything easy. I flew in on a Monday and they met me at the airport and took me to the Hilton (which was paid for as part of the package). So one night at Hilton then 2 nights in CER and then it was supposed to be 2 nights in Hilton but I just stayed one and then headed home. The Hilton collaborates with the hospital and provides free broth and popsicles. . Unfortunately I didn't take any photos while there. CER has a website with pics of the facility though which helped me in deciding to go there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
28 days away from surgery
azsoul replied to sareenok's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried several kinds of Protein and settled on Premier. It tastes good and is 30 grams of protein for the same volume of Fluid that others with less protein have. (I didn't want to have to drink 4 shakes a day. Lol). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Vsg at cer hospital in tijuana or mi doctor? Please help!
azsoul replied to Dteux.vsg's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had my surgery May 24, 2016 with Dr. Garcia at CER. I had a great experience. The facility was clean and comfortable and Dr. Garcia and his staff were top notch. I liked that CER was not a full hospital (although state of the art and equipped for any emergency) because I didn't worry about people with contagious illnesses in the other rooms. The only thing I wish was better was more hallway for those regular walks after surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am 8 weeks out and per my post op diet I have been able to have solid foods since week 5. I find meat of any kind really discouraging to eat (and I am a meat lover...or was). I feel dizzy and a little nauseous after only 2 ounces regardless of type of meat or how it is prepared. But foods that go down easy with no sick feeling include 4 tortilla chips, 2 Peanut Butter crackers, cheese, fruit, half a Protein bar, etc. It seems like everyone's post op recommendations have been different so it's hard to know what's best. What has been your experience with meat and when did it go down easy? (Staying positive and assuming it will someday). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Don't feel well after eating meat
azsoul replied to azsoul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. Maybe trying to bite off more than I can chew so to speak. I'll try one ounce. Eating tortilla chips or crackers is just part of me experimenting with textures, flavors and types of foods--I don't plan on making those part of my lifestyle of eating. But I was afraid all solid foods were going to be trouble so I was relieved to find out some things don't bother my stomach at all. I wish it was the other way around (meat going down easy and chips giving me grief). Never the easy way....lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My hairdresser recommended the B-complex Vitamins plus Biotin. I am 7 weeks out so very nervous to see if I will lose any. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How long does your body retain fluids from surgery?
azsoul replied to Reason to Believe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 16 pounds in Fluid after the surgery but it was gone in about a week and a half. No worries. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am 55 and I had the surgery about 6 weeks ago. My motivation wasn't to be thin and sexy but to hopefully live a longer and healthier life. I made the decision I didn't want to die of an obesity related condition. I didn't have any of them pre-surgery (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.) but the writing was on the wall. I was gaining weight little by little every year and I knew as I got older it was just a matter of time before I would start having health issues from my weight. Plus, it is already harder to exercise as we get older but with each weight gain I was getting more sedentary. I decided to have the surgery while I was healthy to give myself the best chance of success. Good luck to you in your decision making. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The taste of the medicine was the WORST part for me. But now after 4 weeks I hardly remember it. Take it easy and treat yourself to tastier Clear Liquids (like sugar free popsicles or sugar free Jello or good Soup like Pei Wei hot and sour--strained). Makes the first week more doable. Off Topic-Whats your plans for 4th of July
azsoul replied to busybeebug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pool and baseball game on the 4th (they do fireworks after the game). Have a great weekend!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I was on clear liquids for a week then 'full liquids' (which includes Protein shakes) for a week. Even then I was told 60-70 grams of protein a day. I got the Premier shakes which are 30g protein and just had 2 a day. (I added yogurt or other sources too). Luckily I didn't have any nausea and I still love the shakes. I found G2 Gatorade much easier to drink than Water. Didn't feel as heavy going down. It gets better every week and soon you will be able to experience real food with flavor again. I am 5 weeks out and experimenting with solid foods. Just to have flavor again is such a morale boost. Better days ahead!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

That's great that you are set up with Dr. Garcia. I am 56 and just had VSG with him 2 weeks ago. Everything went great and I am excited to be able to start my puréed food stage tomorrow. Best of luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
