I'm feeling very frustrated and down, not many people understand why either. I started the process for surgery for the third time insurance issues and a move out of state stopped me the other two). I went to my pcp in May and had labs drawn, my hemoglobin was 8. The surgeons office was concerned and said with those numbers I wasn't a good candidate for surgery, I don't disagree. Fast forward to now, his nurse wanted me to get labs redrawn this last week so we could see where I was after taking Iron twice a day. My hemoglobin was 6.3 and I had to have 2 units of blood transfused Thursday. I spoke with the surgeons office Friday, to let them know. I'm still going through with the program, with the understanding it could all be for nothing. If I can't get my level to a 10 and maintain, surgery is out. So, I know my issue. Tmi, I had two cycles that lasted 9 days each 16 days apart (after my first blood draw). I called my pcp the last time, I was worried since I was having symptoms (fatigue, headache, shortness of breath, pale) and she said to just take it easy, being the stubborn person I am, I didn't push harder. All of this to say, I'm worried/scared. I want this surgery more than anything right now, I'm afraid of not being around for my children as they grow and I need this tool to help me. My family doesn't understand, "just eat better and work harder," because that's worked so well in the past. I'm seeing a different Dr. next week to try to get everything sorted out and under control. I just had to get it off my chest where others understood and didn't tell me I was wasting my time. I know now, not to let issues slide. I was in denial and just wanted it all to be ok. Another setback, long.

I see an OB next Thursday, going to see about getting on bc to help lighten my cycles. It scares me that I won't be able to get my levels where they need to be, not only for the surgery but to feel better also. We want another child, but not for a couple of years. I have very heavy periods, and I had two bank to bank that lasted 9 days instead of my normal 4. I lost a lot of blood. I'm anemic normally but my levels were critically low. In short I have 3 months to get my levels up to where they need to be and maintain them and it's going to be a real challenge. I'm frustrated with my body. Question for fellow nurses/hospital staff.
CardinalsGirl posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wasn't planning/wanting to tell my Co-workers about my surgery. I'm sure they'll speculate and maybe figure it out but I don't want to share. If everything goes well, I'll be having surgery at the hospital I work at. I won't be on the same floor, but word travels fast (even with hippa). Are you/did you have your surgery at the same hospital you work at? Did they know you work there? As much as I don't want to say anything, I'm wondering if it would be easier to just tell them I'm having a procedure and leave it at that. I work on a very close, closed unit. There's 20 nurses. One nurse has had wls and I've heard in passing some of the remarks made towards wls in general from the others. I prefer privacy when it comes to my body and my health. Tonight is the night. It's my first step (for the 3rd time). I found out some good info already and I'm a little nervous. Let's just say, I'm not the best patient. I never have been one to see a Dr. annually. I don't have any health issues (other than obese). So my Dr visits were for serious issues or when I was trying to lose weight. I was told they need the past 3 years of medical records, I don't have a full 3 years. I'm very worried. I didn't go to the Dr. unless I was dying (sarcasm), depressed, or wanting weight loss meds. I also moved a bit, I can recall the name of my last doctor, but I've been without a Dr. for a year and a half now. I want this so bad, I can't self pay. I have to get approved and I'm worried my past will bite me in the butt! Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Worried about medical records
CardinalsGirl replied to CardinalsGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked tonight, said they needed the records to mainly show insurance it wasn't a gain in the last year. That my weight is something I've struggled with for at least 3 years. I did ask if going back farther would help, yes it will. Since I had a child 6 years ago, I'm going back 6 years to show that I was heavy then. Hopefully it'll lessen my chance of denial. Hi everyone, my name is Desiree'. I'm a mother of four great kids and an RN on a Pediatric ICU floor in Missouri. I have my seminar May 17th. This will be my 3rd seminar in 2 years. I've gone to the seminar and completed most of a 6 month preoperative diet. I switched jobs and lost my insurance 5 months into my journey. Decided I'd try the following year and my Dr. said he'd fight my the insurance company. That didn't go well. This time, my insurance covers the surgery. There are several steps to cover, but they cover up to 30k. So, here I go again. Desiree' Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

I use to want 8 lol. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App My grandma said that babies are like biscuits. If you're going to the trouble to make one, make a dozen. I did not take her advice. Lol I like your grandma, although 12 would be to much..... I could start my own basketball team though! Hmmm.... Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App -

Thanks. I'm hoping for the sleeve, I'm not sure if we're done having kids (talking one more, call me crazy). I have several friends who've had wls and those who had the sleeve seem to recover a little easier. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
