  1. @@crissyboo Yeah, not many people were even aware of what the DS is. I know that with the bypass there is malabsorption and i have to be adamant about taking Vitamins, but with the DS it can be life and death if you dont take them, there's also the issue with the bathroom, and the smells. I'm not even 30 yet, I want to be able to travel and not have to worry about those kind of issues ya know? LOL. I had contemplated the sleeve as well, but my surgeon advised me that I would need something more drastic due to the amount of weight I was needing to lose.
  2. I dont mind at all, to be in a healthy weight range I have about 222 pounds to lose...but I just want to get to about 180 so still 200 pounds. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Well I was going back and forth between the DS and the Bypass but I finally decided on Gastric Bypass, mostly because of my age. I didn't want to have to deal with some of the side effects of the DS quite yet haha. How about yourself? Where are you located?

  4. I'm Sept 8th as well! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App That's awesome! How are you feeling about everything? I know as soon as a date was set my nerves really hit, even though I'm a 1000% sure it's the right choice. It's weird, some days I'm really anxious and that's all I think about and other days I'm like totally chill. Honestly, I'm just ready to be on the losers bench, I'm ready to be healthy, motivated, and feel good about myself. What about you? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App I'm in the same boat. I'm just ready to really get on this journey. I have a lot of weight to lose so I'm excited for it to finally stop feeling so overwhelming and impossible. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  6. That's the hardest battle for me, trying to lose weight while also trying to take advantage of the fact this will be the last time for awhile I can enjoy some of these things!
  7. I'm just a few days ahead of you. My doctors making me do the liquid diet for 3 weeks (ughhh) so I'll start on the 18th Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Congratulations! 2 days before me. Have you been given an idea on your length of stay at the hospital? ARe you doing bypass?
  9. Woohoo! Congratulations! I hope we can all keep in touch with each other along this journey and figure it all out together
  10. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thanks! Congratulations to you too! My surgery got scheduled so fast I dont think its quite hit me yet. I only had to wait two days for insurance approval, so I am just trying to let it all sink in haha. I am glad there are so many of us in September though, at least we are all going to be going through it together.
  11. I just got my date yesterday...I'm scheduled for September 8th! Eek! The nerves definitely just hit
  12. @@Ashleyconder Me too!!! That's really exciting. What stage in the process are you at? I went and met with the nurse practicioner at the beginning of May. I originally was looking into the DS but now I am leaning more towards the Bypass. Not sure if that's going to change my surgeon to Dr.Kim or not, as I was originally going to be with Dr.Smith since he is the only one who does the DS there.
  13. That's awesome! Where are you having surgery at?
  14. I'm in Florida too, in Orlando. What part are you in? Im on my second month of my three month required diet
  15. I've heard mixed opinions on this. My doctor and nutritionist have both said that the gas and carbonation can make your pouch expand, I've read some things that say there's no truth to this. It's kind of like the straw debate. But I'm gonna go with what my doctor says and just avoid all the sparkly drinks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I hear you, this has been my biggest difficulty too...its not even so much the soda, its any carbonated beverage...i like sodas, diet sodas, carbonated flavored waters, sparkling waters....my nutritionist has me weaning myself down from about 3 a day to 1 a day now. Next month my goal is none at all
  17. I hope everyone supports you in your decision! You know your body best and no one should have a negative opinion on how you choose to make your life better. Best of luck!
  18. Our starting weights are very similar and my surgeon recommended the DS for me as well just given my higher BMI. when i went in for my consult i was almost positive i was going to do the RNY but now I am see saw'ing between the two. If you are considering the DS my advice is to do a LOT of research on it. it has been proven to be the most successful with excess weight loss (80-90%) and least amount of regain, but it also has a lot more serious side effects than the Sleeve as it is malabsorbative too. Protein intake and a strict daily Vitamin regimen is necessary. Whats surprising to me is him recommending the switch in a two part phase, I've read a lot about people having the sleeve and getting it revised to the DS, but from what I've read, it hasnt been as successful as getting the Switch in the first place. Like any weight loss surgery, they're all just tools. How you use them will really determine your results. Best of luck on your decision
  19. Phew. That's good to know! Also helpful that they had the surgery and were able to give you that kind of insight Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. How did the psych evaluation go? That's one of the things I'm more nervous about for some reason Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I know exactly what you mean. I had to have my gallbladder taken out in January so I've met my deductible and almost my out of pocket max, unfortunately the program fees don't count towards that but the anesthesia and hospital bill will Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. I think it really depends on your insurance requirements and the surgeon. My insurance requires a 3 month diet, and my friend who has the same insurance and used my same surgeon said after her diet, it was about a two month wait for the surgery so I'm hoping for the same time period
  23. I am in the beginning stages as well....I have my first follow up appointment with my nut on Monday June 6th. I completed my first out of three month insurance required diet but it was tough and I am definitely disappointed with the results. My plan was basically, two weeks on a low carb no sugar diet followed by 1 week on a full liquid diet, and then repeat the process. As soon as I came off the liquid diet and started eating real foods again I noticed I was gaining back weight, i had gone down 16, and now im only down 10. Definitely frustrating, so I am excited to talk to my nut. and get some input about that. I am leaning towards the bypass, but my surgeon also performs the DS surgery and I am not 100% positive yet which surgery i am going to get....had anyone here considered the DS and decided on the bypass for any reason? Good luck to everyone
