    Question!

I'm day 15 post op and other than the fact that I can't eat a lot, or rapidly, I feel like I didn't even have surgery. I didn't have a pre-op diet, but I lost 12 pounds by putting to use some if what I learned in the classes. I don't think you have to be too perfect so just do your best. Work

I was off only 2 days. Had surgery on Thursday and went back on Sunday, Mother's Day. It all depends on your job though. You get tired really quickly because of the lack of calories. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Options! I need options!

Yeah, I'm day 14 post and eating Beans (smashed by me to make refried) yogurt, egg, cottage cheese. That's it so far. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  4. @@More than this, thank you. I downloaded the book to my kindle on my phone as well. You are absolutely right about sharing it and I'm very glad you did. Some people believe everything they are told or read, and therefore question the sources to a fault. Although source is important, it's good to use your own logic as well. Interesting book and I will get a lot out of it. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  5. I don't give a rat's ass what people say. I didn't tell anyone up to the surgery because I wasn't sure it was gonna happen, but a few weeks before, a few people knew. The week of, I told people and when I returned to work, (I manage a restaurant) I didn't mind telling those who wanted to know. It's no big deal to me. I did it mainly to control my diabetes. I was sick of dealing with the high sugars and trying to eat right blah blah blah. Now I feel great, only 12 days post op, and I don't care who knows. It's personal preference though. If you wanna keep it to yourself, but all means do so. You can always tell them later on. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Early thoughts

M! @ had the same experience as I did. Had surgery the 5th of May, back to work the 9th (walking job). No stitch removal because it was derma glue and the five inscisions healed quickly, about five days. I too am a baby about pain but it wasn't bad at all. The anastesia is what I hated. 8. I'm so sorry to hear that. I know this surgery is not a fiscal, and I'm only 12 days out, so posts like this are very helpful. I can totally see how easy it may be to return to the emotional eating part. Tell me, for the two years did you replace the reading with something else for emotional support, or just use will power to avoid eating out of emotion. I need to change my mindset so this doesn't happen to me because it ALWAYS had after losing weight. I pray you find the answer and I thank you for sharing your struggles. Makes me realize this WLS is not a cure all. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  9. @@Joyecamp1992, don't sweat it. As long as you aren't gaining. I've noticed that with all the different directions, the main goal is that we, as the patients, are doing the surgery for the right reasons. Not JUST to look smaller, but to be healthy. I can't imagine them not letting you have the surgery because you didn't lose enough weight but maybe it has happened. I have the type that required the six month nutritional plan as well and was 286 at the time of the first class in July of last year (2015) and when I had the surgery, I was 277 so only 11 pounds down. They also didn't make me do a preop liquid diet. That would have been horrible I think. Either way, if you're heading in the right direction, that's good. Having awful days! Help!

Omg, I am so sorry for this. That must be horrible! Sounds like there isn't ANYTHING that you will be able to keep down. I am only 12 days post so I still do liquids only with the exception of Greek yogurt. I haven't thrown up since the hospital for after surgery so unfortunately I have no advice except to call your doctor or nutritionist. You need to get something in you that stays because it's very dangerous otherwise. Good luck and I hope you find the answer. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

  13. Erin, I know we are all different. My op was May 5th.the first few days i struggled to get liquids in. As I felt better, I drank more. You mentioned you eat soup, rice Krispies, etc, I have only five liquid, until this week where I added Greek yogurt. Muscle milk and Isopure were/are my Protein sources. By day five, my primary doctor appointment, I had dropped 19 lbs but I was heavier than you going in (274) and didn't lose much preop. Here's my thing. I had this done for my HEALTH-get rid of diabetes. The weight loss is an added benefit and a nice one at that. I won't get on a scale unless I'm at a doctor or follow up. I am shrinking; I can tell in my clothes but I refuse to let the scales rule me. In fact, before I had this surgery I had begun thinking that way and lecture my friends who have weight problems about it. Put the scale away. It can be sabotaging. Make how you FEEL your goal. If you're a foodie, as I am, it's daunting at first and emotional to realize I will never eat the way I used to (used to turn to food and in all emotional states) and food is for nutrition only. I will still enjoy meal time, but not abuse it, I hope. So far, so good. I feel great and I sleep so well now whereas before I could NEVER sleep thru the night. I also think you'll do better once you're back working. Or doing something after there's no pain. Walk a lot. It's so good to do. I feel I still don't walk enough even. I returned to work on May 9th, four days post-op, but my job isn't too physically demanding. I am a restaurant general manager and I made sure to have enough crew on just in case I couldn't do it. Good luck to you girl! Try to remember that this is for your health and to live longer. Also, I'm sure you are reading less than before so the weight loss will start showing once you are moving more. A good way to tell the difference between number and head hunger is to all yourself if you're hungry enough to eat an apple. Or a boiled chicken. Lol good luck girl! Hang in there! 3 weeks out, what are you eating?

I'm only 11 days post-op and still basically on liquids. Since it's okay to have Greek yogurt and sf Jello and pudding, I figured it's okay to have a little hummus (just by baby sized spoonful). I hope it doesn't bother me, I'm feeling GREAT and bring in my Protein, but I was craving hummus. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

More critical of facial features after WLS?

I look in the mirror and remind myself how beautiful I am, even if I'm not so beautiful face-wise. (I think I am, but I'm sure there are some who would state differently at first sight.) Point is, when they get to know me, that's when they see the real beauty. It's a process, but learn to love yourself no matter what. Besides, physical beauty is relative. Pre-op liquid diet

Wow, not that it's okay, but I ate "fairly normal", without binging, the weeks prior to surgery. I'm classified as morbidly obese, 274 @ 5'5". The dietician who did the seminar at the preop appointment for about 20 of us, told us to eat a NORMAL dinner the night before even. I'm kind of glad I didn't have to do a pre-op diet, and there were no complications but those of you who do it will prolly find it easier to do the post-op diet. (Although now I have no problems with that either and I dropped 21 pounds by my week check up.) I know that's not gonna stay like that, and I will be happy with 2 lbs a week or whatever, as long as it's going down so I can get off meds. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-op liquid diet

Hmmmmm, I wasn't required to do a two week, or any pre-op diet. In fact, they said to eat a NORMAL meal the night before. I wonder why there are so many different doctor guidelines. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Loneliness

Awe. I feel for you. The "break up" with food for me is worse than any men I've broken up with! I do know how you are feeling, even though I have a great support system around me. Start doing things you never did before, like volunteering, or going to the gym regularly, or taking up another hobby. I know it's hard, and it WILL get better. People don't realize how much of a major change this is in one's life. I plan on going out with my friends to eat still, it will just be different for me. I am only 8 days out so am still on liquids but when I go back to food, I will do the same things I used to do, just differently. Hope you feel better soon! A good cry helps. Feeling drained, Help!

Girl, I felt the same way you do. I'm now 8 days post op and I feel great. I still get tired if I do too much but that's because of the amount of calories I take in (or don't take in). You will feel better, I promise. Remember, this was just a tool, but if you are a foodie like I was, it's like a major loss in your life. This will sound weird, but I try to cry as much as possible to release excess energy and it really helps. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

  25. WLS is only a tool. I realized last night that I am going through a break up with the greatest "love of my life" - food. I will NEVER be able to eat the way I did before. I was a binger, until the last year leading up to the surgery. I could stop at three fast food places on the way home and eat it all in one sitting. I would forego dates or nights with my boyfriend, just to be with my food. I was in a real relationship with food. Now I know I can't do that because in order to fuel my body, I need Protein first. I'm sure I'll be full after a few bites of protein and veggies. It is an emotional ride, I am aware, but it's the best tool I could have used. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
