  1. It does seem extreme and I have never heard of that either. But who knows with the ACA, a lot has changed. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  2. It's amazing how many loved ones don't understand. They think is taking the "easy way out"! Um, hello ooooohhhhhh, have you not been with me for years and seen me struggle with this issue? Do you think I LIKE buying different sizes of clothes because every time I lose weight, I put it back on plus eventually? Wow. The Doc explained it will at the seminar I went to. Morbidly obese people (bmi of more than 30? Mine was 48) can lose weight but will almost ALWAYS gain it back. Some people, who never struggled with weight issues, find it so hard to grasp how difficult it really is and I REFUSE to spend the rest of my life on meds for bp and diabetes. Sheeesh. I hope your hubby comes around and realizes this is not an easy task and surgery is not the easy way out. It's a tool. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    What to get before surgery

I found muscle milk the second week. It's 25 grams of Protein and not too much sugar. I think it has 3 or 4. Over ice it's great. I also sip an Isopure a day. That's 40 grams of protein. There's 65 right there. Add a chicken breast to that or tuna, and I'm getting over 85 grams. It's so weird how I don't crave starchy, bread like foods, soda, or sweets (yet). I hope I'm over that coz I was bad. I'm almost five weeks out. Good luck! Oh, the first week, sf pudding helped one in a while and bone broth was HORRIBLE, so I had wonton broth strained at a Chinese restaurant. Yum at the time! Just be sure to get your protein, so your energy stays up and you are less likely to lose a lot of hair. Also, your liquids. We are all different so it's trial and error along the way. This site has helped me a lot through the process. Good luck! It gets better and better each day! (and I am taking up less space in the universe too!) win win Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Looking for a Friend

I agree with christinamo7. The first two weeks seem difficult because you DO have to worry about what you put into your system. Trust me when I tell you, I was a HUGE binger all my life. I could sometimes eat over 10,000 (yes, that's 10 THOUSAND) calories in a day sometimes. During my early 40's I decided to curb that though, and tried eating better for my health. Incidentally, I believe I am the main reason I developed type 2 diabetes, knowing it ran in my family (what?? Nobody runs in my family, badumbump). I stopped the major overeating, and went to just overeating normally, lol. I was 277 at surgery and that was almost five weeks ago. I was 255 at my one week postop. I don't know what /if I've lost more (I feel like it) but I don't care. I know I'm on the right track and I CAN'T overeat or I will vomit. I HAVE eaten one or twice to the point of "too full" and couldn't stand the feeling but it's NO WHERE near what I used to eat. Not to mention, I don't eat sweets, fried, bread, Pasta, etc and frankly, I don't want any of that yet! The second week postop I craved weird things like watermelon (still haven't had) and Brussel sprouts. I'm a weirdo. Anyhoo, my point of this is to say, you won't be thinking of what to eat as much as you do the first few weeks. You will just make sure to not your Protein so you aren't tired and remember at any meal time, nutrients (protein) first! This is a tool. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling like a Failure

Don't get discouraged. Don't worry about the weight, we all lose at different paces. I don't get on the scale (mine is out of battery and I don't want to fix it) because I will be checked at all the follow up appointments. I try not to let the weight define me. Go by how you feel! Hey, 18 pounds is a loss! Some people can't lose that in a year! Good luck and try not to let it discourage you. You are on the right track. This liquid diet is killin me

I didn't do a preop but I was realistic as to what it would be like afterwards. Not sure why they don't make us do a preop here in Vegas at the surgical weight loss center, Dr. Atkinson. I modified some of things I ate like soda, caffeine, sweets, fried foods, but glad I didn't have to do only liquids. The two weeks post op was enough for me. Lol. I was 277 surgery weight. Will find out what I am on Thursday (5 weeks post op). At the one week mark check up I was 255. I doubt I lost too much more but I'm feeling great and is not about the weight as much as it is about the diabetes. Doing great in that area! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  7. Wow, I got a lot of info reading this thread! Thanks everyone! I was wondering why my stomach makes noises and I also thought I was the only one having acid problems right after surgery. Now I know I'm not abnormal! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    I got my surgery date...July 7th!

Good luck girl! Don't stress, you'll do great. The first few days are a little difficult, but after that you will be so happy. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  9. I'm almost 5 weeks post op and I can eat 3 or 4oz of chicken VERY SLOWLY, but not much room for anything else. When I eat egg, it's just two country scrambled with onion. MAYBE I can eat a turkey bacon slice. I haven't tried salad yet but I do eat organic red peppers with hummus and that fills me up and doesn't seem to bother me digestive-wise. We are all different. At 2 weeks I could hardly handle anything. I was still on really soft and liquids. Don't forget that when you do eat, Try not to drink until 30 minutes after. Also, remember that if you don't get enough good calories in (nutrient dense ones) you will harm your metabolism. That's later though. Right now, stick to liquids and pureed. Try to hit your Protein goals daily. I knock out 40 grams of protein with an Isopure a day. Zero carbs, 40 grams of protein. Sip on it throughout the day and that's 1/2 of your protein! Good luck. Don't stress, the sleeve is a great tool if we follow the team's direction. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

What to expect two weeks post op?

I'm a quick recovery person as well. I had my surgery on the 5th of May, back to work on the 9th. Seemed back to normal 2 weeks post op but I know I was healing inside still. I had enough energy because I was boring my Protein levels. The first week I was not as energetic but by week 2, I felt great. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  11. Mine was spaghetti with turkey meat sauce. A little fast food the week before surgery but nothing major. I went to a nice restaurant and had lamb the monday before. I wasn't required to do a preop (Dr. Atkinson, Las Vegas) so my "last hurrah" went on all week, in moderation. I am now four weeks post op and those foods don't tempt me. I still eat a LITTLE too much sometimes, but only good stuff like Protein rich chicken, and cooked veggies. Yesterday I made a crockpot meal to freeze. It was chicken breast cut up, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, carrots, red pepper, onion, garlic, Rosemary. Chicken broth and seasonings. Sooo good but I had two helpings (small, but still really filling). I felt like I overdid it. Fast food doesn't tempt me, yet anyway. It was a habit to get out of because I used to pick some up almost every night. I also don't eat bread or Pasta yet. I have no room for empty calories either. Edamame and Artichokes?

I eat what I want with the exception of rice, Pasta, bread, lettuce. I eat a lot of hummus. chicken breast. No red meat yet or sweets or fruit. But other than that, lol. I'm four weeks post op. See my nut next week. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  13. Yep. It's so sad what we do to our own bodies! Try to get the calories in after the first month. As long as they aren't empty calories. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  14. I agree with you whole heartedly. It only makes sense actually. A human being cannot survive their whole life on 500 calories a day without thwarting their metabolism. It's logical to eat more nutritious calories. Calories equals energy. If your calories are protein and nutrient dense, you will not gain weight by eating 1000 to 1500 AND exercising. You feel better too! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Lets talk sausage....

I'm diabetic too and haven't had bread or pasta since surgery may 5th. The closest I have come to any "bad" carbs is dry popcorn. I do miss spaghetti sauce but I think I can live without the pasta (really used to raise my sugar....rice did the same) but I love me some sauce. I know it has a lot of sugar in it though. Any suggestions? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Omg Lipsticklady, that was some description! Couldn't help going "there" as you described it. Wow. I need a cold shower now! Good thing my guy is on his way over! Lol. He's bringing the sausage. Turkey sausage of course. Life is tooooo short I tell ya. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  19. The first two weeks my ankles are bony but this is the third week and they are swollen for the last two days. Is it because I'm eating solid again? I don't add salt to my food. I try to stay under 1000 calories. I hope it isn't my heart. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Why are my ankles puff?

I think it was my monthly, lol. They went back to normal on the last day of my period. Thanks! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  21. @@moorecr I know this prolly doesn't help your situation, but you are beautiful either way. Try going back to the way you had to eat preop or post op for a couple weeks. Don't skimp on calories, but do high Protein and soft foods with protein. It's hard when the people around you can eat what they want. Who knows, that may happen to any of us who just got sleeved. Right now, week 4 post op, I can't imagine being able to eat how I did before because I was a huge eater-never full (emotionally), but I never know what may happen. The surgery was just a tool for me and the biggest problem is in my head. I hope you can find your way back, for healthy reasons, to eating more healthy. Keep us posted. You are in my thoughts. What Is Your Brilliant Substitute for a Craving?

Thanks, I will try that. And it will add some calories. I don't want to not be getting enough calories because it will have the opposite effect on the weight part even though the health part is my main concern. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

What Is Your Brilliant Substitute for a Craving?

I haven't had butter yet. I've had olive oil. When I have the scrambled egg, it's whole and cooked the way you described, without cheese. I find that salt is much more salty now. I love cheese but it's so salty to me. It would add an extra 100 calories so I will try that tomorrow. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

What Is Your Brilliant Substitute for a Craving?

I can't seem to stomach olives, pickles, marinated mushrooms, did I used to LOVE before! Maybe it's the acid and I'm not far enough out yet. I need to find a way to get more calories in. I usually have an egg and a few tbsp of cottage cheese in the morning or just a muscle milk, which is 210 calories and 25 grams of Protein for Breakfast. Then lunch may be hummus and an organic red or yellow pepper. Then dinner is usually a chix breast with spinach (Pam spray). During the day I drink as much Water I can tolerate and an Isopure which is 40 grams of protein. Tonight I'm trying, for the first time, a beef patty and some egg whites. Haven't had beef yet.
