Already sleeved question
OMAChiver replied to sleeveme17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate that there is such a negative stigma around WLS. Before I had surgery I had so many people tell me it was the "easy way out." Yeah, WLS CAN help you lose weight, but it's the dedication of the patient that leads to long term success. I used to tell people "If you think eating 500 - 1000 calories per day for the REST OF YOUR LIFE is easy? Let's see YOU do it without medical assistance!" Now...I just let my results shut their mouths. Stay strong and do what's right for you! -
7 Months out gastric sleeve
OMAChiver replied to karine76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How fast do you eat? I find that 2oz of Protein takes me about 60 minutes to consume. Add a vegetable and it bumps up to 90 minutes. Last night I was pressed for time because of a meeting and ate 1oz of salmon and 2 asparagus spears in about 40 minutes...I was uncomfortably stuffed even though it was half of my normal quantity intake. As for the feeling lethargic, I would recommend taking a look at WHAT you are eating and making sure you are focusing on high protein, nutrient dense foods. Put good stuff in, get good stuff out. These are just my opinions and experiences. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

They require a ten day to two week liqid pre-op so your liver shrinks enough to be pushed out of the way during surgery. I haven't heard of a surgeon who doesn't require that for arthroscopic surgery. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App I went through Dr Cronk when he was still at Methodist. Did a 7 day, specified food/quantities diet to shrink my liver. But, I wasn't restricted to liquids only. I ate solid food and I was able to eat as many pickles as I wanted. I wish Dr. Cronk and Dr. Anthone hadn't left Methodist...they were AMAZING!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Wow!! Sounds like you are doing AWESOME!!! Congratulations on being so close to your goal!! With regards to eating, I completely understand how easy it is to get sidetracked and not eat until after noon. I actually set alarms on my Fitbit for meal times. This accomplishes two things. First, it helps me remember to eat. Second it keeps my eating evenly spaced so that I'm fueling my body consistently throughout the day for better nutrition absorption. As far as the food itself is concerned, I'm pretty basic, so I don't have much to share as far as meals or recipes. I primarily eat chicken. I found that shredded chicken was best to start with for my stomach. I made shredded taco chicken meat a LOT until I was able to get the "chewing to a pulp" routine down. So, shredded taco chicken topped with a little fat free sour cream and mild salsa. Now, I look for marinades that have less than 5g of sugar per serving, cut up 2-3 pounds of chicken breast, marinate and cook it in the marinade. Drain the excess marinade and box in 2 oz quantities for lunches and dinners. I add steamed veggies to round things out. I like making chicken fajitas, I don't eat tortillas, just the filling. But, I like the chicken/bell pepper/onion combo. My standard day consists of 1) Protein shake and Vitamins, 2) beef/turkey Jerky, 3) chicken and veggies, 4) Protein Shake, 5) salmon/chicken/steak/turkey and veggies. Again, congratulations on the amazing progress you have made!! VSG is an amazing tool if the patient commits to the lifestyle change and it sounds like you have!! Keep up the awesome work!!! Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Making good progress? How are the eating and exercise habits coming along? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I walk every morning. When I started out I was walking 30 minutes, about a mile and a half. Over the last six months I've been gradually increasing my time, distance, and speed. Now I'm walking 7 miles in 90 minutes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I keep things pretty simple. I eat my Protein first for every meal, focus on hitting my protein goals on a daily basis, and limit fats and sugars (typically under 10 grams per day per category). Additionally, I exercise every day. Nothing special, just walking, but I push my limits to walk further and faster every time I go out. I typically burn 1000-1200 calories during my daily walk (about 90 minutes of walking) and consume about 500 calories of nutrient dense food. It's all about the calorie deficit. Just got done with my 6 month post-op appointment, all my blood work was spot on where it should be and I've lost 165 pounds, so far!!! I don't have any new information to share on the Cronk/Anthone saga or what is going to happen with the clinic after they leave. I CAN tell you that they scheduled my 9 month post-op appointment, so that's good news. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

For several months after surgery, it is going to feel like sipping liquids is a full time job, and truthfully, it is. It's extremely important to be as consistent as possible with constantly sipping Water or Protein drinks to stay hydrated and hit your protein goals. Those two things are going to be KEY through your entire weight loss journey. I'm six months post-op and those are STILL my two main focuses everyday. However, I digress. Right now, just focus on sipping away. It will get better, I promise. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

That's good to know. Unfortunate about the family emergency, that's usually never something good, but I'm glad to hear all the staff is still there. How's your journey going so far? What stage of the diet do they have you on? Lost a significant amount of weight? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm at 7 weeks post op now. There has been a significant spike in my happiness since getting on the "soft" food diet. I feel completely normal now. The weight loss has definitely slowed down, last week I only lost 1 pound.... but I have to be realistic that not every week is going to be an amazing week. I've made mistakes and need to work on eating slower, but I'm learning. Overall I have lost 44 pounds since July 22nd (5 days before surgery). My goal is 75 pounds by Christmas. Awesome!!! That's great progress. Some weeks are slower than others, and there will be plateaus. But as long as you are following your dietary guidelines you'll be great!! Keep up the great work!!
