  1. Some insurance companies won't send you anything in writing....especially if your insurance plan is actually fully-funded by your employer ( your employer actually pays the claims, NOT the insurance company) and they use the " insurance company" for administrative purposes only. That's how it works with my husband's company. They are a pharma company and they directly set their own health care plan policies and they themselves pay out the claims....they merely use UHC as plan administrators. UHC provides them access to doctors and networks, and UHC manages the plan rules that my husband's company sets....which are sometimes set up differently than UHC rules. So while my insurance card says UHC, it's not really truly UHC.... especially when my company sets up different rules. But it can be very confusing to deal with at times. Especially when UHC has a blanket policy of 6-month wait, and OUR company plan says BMI and if it's medically necessary are the only requirements. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    I need support!

Lovelymilena, this forum is terrific for support, but what I think is the most valuable thing is....we (nicely) call each other out on our BS when we make excuses, whine without really wanting to change, and wallow in the Land of Poor Me for too long. Don't get me wrong, everyone is extremely supportive when going through physical pain, concern, worrying about something....it's a really kind, helpful outpouring of love from people who know exactly what you're going through. But people here also know when it's time tell you to get back up on that bike and ride again, if that makes sense (metaphorically). Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  12. Well if you have an email saying that then you are golden, I bet! They promised to email me something twice, never received. I have requested a case manager, will let you know what I hear. Crazy thing is, my BMI is 52....you can make me diet 6 months, but I am STILL not going to lose the 50+ pounds I would need to to get my BMI below 40...so why wait at all? 13. Both hospital programs are very close by to me, trying to decide which to use. Attended UNC info session, seemed pretty straightforward....duke info session is next week. How were your experiences if you used one of these programs? Is one more comprehensive than the other in terms of support and follow up post-surgery? I definitely want to have solid support groups available to me post-surgery, when the real work kicks in. Any info or opinions you can provide on your experience at Duke or UNC would be so appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. Jobey, so when people ask you about how you lost all your weight, are you going to share that WLS was a part of the equation? I think I want to be up front with people, whether they are thin or not, to help normalize the idea of WLS. I think I would have gotten here a lot sooner if the people who surrounded me didn't consider it a "cop out" ..... Ugh, makes me mad. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  22. I am having the same thing happen to me...on phone UHC says no 6 month diet, but my surgeon's office just told me UHC always requires that? I know that's not true as there are many different flavors of UHC. Anyway, getting a case nurse to help me get to the bottom of this. What's absolutely ludicrous, though, is that there is no way I could diet enough to drop below the 40 BMI in 6 months, my BMI is 52. Who are they kidding? 25. I decided against getting a case manager for UHC but now might ask for one after all.....BC on the phone they told me no waiting, but they told my surgeon's office that I need 6 monthly visits, UGH. Why would they tell me NO wait over the phone then tell my surgeon something different???? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
