You really need to call your insurance company and ask, as it is rarely a single answer. Different employers can put in additional requirements, or remove requirements, or they can completely remove bariatric surgery coverage. There can be many different answers to a plan with the same name. Sorry that there's no solid answer. Give them a call, they usually are open on weekends. July 14th surgery day!
gina171 replied to beauty and the beast's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not having surgery then, but it IS the date of my first appointment with my surgeon, AND it's my 25th wedding anniversary. Which is awkward bc my husband and I are currently living apart bc of marital problems, but he really wants to be at the surgeon's appt too, to be my support person. Too messy, I think. But YOUR day will hugely life changing! Which surgery are you having? Where? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Probably most stupid question
gina171 replied to karine76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you've given birth in a hospital setting -- and I know not everyone here has -- I imagine the experience of nakedness in front of strangers will be similar.....when you're thinking about it weeks ahead of time being half naked in front of others sounds awful and embarrassing, but when you're in the thick of the action, you really could not care less. Hmmm....I have United Healthcare Choice Plus, bariatrics surgery is covered given my BMI, but one of the extras of my coverage is to have a case nurse assigned to you (can be for ANY medical situation, not just bariatrics) who will help you move through the process and be a more direct liaison...sounds nice. But....to set up there's a 45 min appt over the phone where u give an complete health history. My appt is tomorrow. I might be paranoid but I can't help but worry is there some way my insurance is trying to get this info and then trip up my process and find a reason to deny me? Maybe this is a nice benefit, I don't know. My husband works for a pharma company and we typically get great healthcare plans offered to us, so this might be legit. Or it could not be, I don't want to misstep accidentally and ruin my coverage. Am I paranoid? Or should I cancel this phone intake appt, and not get a case worker til I am approved? Does anyone have to pay a large copay and deductible
gina171 replied to Justina0218's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to pay 10% of my total costs, up to a maximum of $3000. No doubt I will hit that $3000, and I am happy to do so. :-) Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Best Tasting Protein Shake
gina171 replied to charley27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier vanilla rules my universe. And try Premier chocolate again, but don't try and pretend it's chocolate milk.....it's actually a lot more like a Yoo-hoo chocolate drink? I grew up in NJ and Yoo-hoo was super popular there, I loved it as a kid. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Will WLS work if the problem isn't overeating?
gina171 replied to WitchySar's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I guess what is puzzling me is that the OP also stated somewhere in this thread that she lost 150 pounds at one point and regained it all. Then she went on to say she knows if she goes to through the process of WLS and loses her weight, she knows she would not let herself regain it BC of all the work she went through to lose it in the first place.....but, she's done that already once. And I don't hear her being very coach able and open-minded here, sorry. I might just be reading this wrong, but I think there is a huge amount of mental readiness work and accountability that I hope she works through before surgery. Stupid things people say when they find out you've had surgery....

I am amazed at people who look at me like I am crazy and say, "I don't think you're big enough to need that!" 5'4".....298 pounds.....no, I think I am maybe big enough, thx. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Old photos..Now I'm questioning everything.
gina171 replied to Healthy_life2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am at the very beginning, pre-op. And lately when I look at pictures of me where I am now, I suddenly don't feel loathing and hate and disgust at my appearance. Since I hVe made this decision, when I see myself in photos or even the mirror, I strangely feel....empathy; sadness for where this person is; understanding all the really traumatic, unresolved pain that got her here; just an honest aching for how shredded I have been inside for so long. It's nice to not feel hate at my reflection, for once. Sadly, strangely, I am still not able to conjure up that same kindness and empathy when I look at early childhood (4 and 5 years old) pictures of myself, where I first starting putting on weight during the time when my abuse and real trauma started. It's odd BC I absolutely adore children and am a fierce protector of them....you would think I would look at these sad pictures of myself as a child and feel empathy and Kindness. But, no, I still recoil from those pictures. Those pictures scare me, and I turn away from them. Why? I hope that changes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Just brainstorming here....anything you could sell? Jewelry, homegoods you don't use, TV, things in storage, etc. How about downsizing your car? We are getting ready to do that now, selling our nicer car and replacing it with something basic but safe that costs 1/2 as much, and applying the extra money to our daughters college tuition bill. Can you ask for a pay advance? Four close friends who could each loan you $500? Provide evening childcare (pre-op ad then post recovery) for parents who work at night? Garage Sale? Craigslist? Sell the clothes you won't fit in in a year, now? Could you get a hardship loan from your church (since this is for your health) in exchange for repayment in full PLUS offering them 5 hours a weekend of service (cleaning, office work, coordinating, etc.) for the next year? I know I am stretching here, I am just trying to think of all the things I would be willing to do. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I don't think it is insane at all, especially considering that your future insurance won't cover bariatrics. Just be sure you choose a dress with simple lines that can easily be taken in. You might want to consult with a dressmaker about which styles will not tailor well, since you are likely to lose 40-60 pounds by your wedding day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
