For those of you using Benefiber, do you use the recommended 3 packets a day? If not, how many? And how has this helped the regularity for you? I'm miserable Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How bad are the scars from laparoscopic sleeve?
areader4life replied to Trying to decide's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 6 weeks post op and mine are still healing; however, I had laparoscopic surgery 4 years ago to have my gallbladder removed, and I can't even find the scars. I expect this to be the same way eventually. The cuts I received are slight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Drinking/Eating
areader4life replied to areader4life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my son's graduation party last week, I absentmindedly took 2 drinks of Water, after I'd eaten my 2 oz of chicken, and I almost immediately had a tightening in my chest and threw up foamy watery stuff. My dr rules say the same: drink 30 mins before or after but not during. I have had to take 2 sips to help get chicken down before, but they were little more than the amount of saliva -- lol -- so I had no problem. Thanks for the replies! I see me NUT on 6/13, so I'll definitely check with her, too! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
No lie....I would kill for salad
areader4life posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved 5/3 and I'm dying to eat a salad. I will get to have salad again, right? I've had no other food thoughts -- sugar? Who cares! Diet Coke? Diet what? Wine? Ok, well I'm looking forward to that, too, but seriously, everything else has been fine. I just need some crunch and some Caesar or balsamic vinaigrette! Great idea! I can use the balsamic and Caesar on my chicken until I can get the crunch. I see my Nut on 6/13 and can't wait to see what options open up for me! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Coffee after Sleeve...
areader4life replied to NikkiRT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About a week, maybe two, post op, I started back to my one cup a day. I rarely finish the whole cup (once it's temp drops too much), but this is what helps keep me regular....(sorry, tmi). It's the only caffeine I consume and I don't count those ounces into my "water" total. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Day 20 and I'd really, really like to chew food again! I'm so over Soup, yogurt, Protein drinks, and eggs. I rarely get hungry, but when I do, it's not for Premier Protein shakes. And I eat such small portions that I can't get motivated to explore options...I hope I pull out of this funk soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Chewing Again...

My next Nut appt is 6/13, and I think that's when I can have more textured foods. Not that far away, but seriously....the struggle is real. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Today is day 12 post op and my biggest issue is stomach irritability, I guess is the best way to describe it. It never stops and is quite uncomfortable and embarrassing. When empty it is calmer but with any food whatsoever it's obnoxious. I know it has to be gas but I rarely pass any, more likely I will have diarrhea. It's loud, rumbly, and at times painful, but always uncomfortable. Of all the things to be concerned with, I know this seems trivial but if someone could give me some guidance, I'd sincerely appreciate it. I'm to the point that I'm abstaining from food too much. I know that's not right and need to fix this. So far, my soft foods are eggs, Soups, and yogurt. My shakes are Premier Protein. I'm always able to make my Water intake. Probiotic?! I'll keep that in mind! I have a friend (no WLS) who was having issues of a different sort, but a probiotic helped her, so maybe .... Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Stomach trouble
areader4life replied to areader4life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take Protonix (a pill) and Carafeet (liquid). I have decided that I do need to call. I can't just stop eating all together. That's not the answer either. But I was kind of hoping you all would say, "oh, that's normal until week 4" or somesuch. No such luck I guess. Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Everything I've read warns against grazing, so here's my question--with all these scheduled fluids (I'm day 10 post-op), I feel like that's all I do is graze, albeit on Fluid not food. Is that normal? Am I doing this right? Because I'm either drinking Water, a Protein drink, or broth, what feels like constantly. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Same here! I'm going to my follow up appt today and plan to ask that question, among others. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I've had an easy recovery from what I've read. I'm able to drink my Water, G2, broth, Popsicles, and Jello. On the first few days my stomach would cramp a little as soon as something would hit it but today I've not even had that happen much. Here's my concern--what if once I'm allowed to eat I don't get full after 2-4 oz? I read posts where you all are only eating tiny portions and I'm thinking...I just feel like I'm on a liquid diet and am scared I will still struggle with portion control again Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I didn't have any coating in my mouth per se, but at the end of the day, my teeth feel slimy (comparatively speaking), which I assume is due to Protein drinks and no actual textured food. I do have my follow up dr appt today, so I hope to learn more about what to expect in the days to come. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
