    My work here is done

I agree. I have pretty good I insurance but I never go to the emergency dept for a cold (or head lice! ) I sure don't ream out the ED doc because "last week the other doctor gave me oxytocin for my hurt food and now you want me to take Motrin?" The majority of my noncompliance case managed patient are on Medicare. They know everything about everything and they sure don't need my advice, unless it means they will get more pain medication... I want to add that this kind of entitlement is a cultural phenomena. It's about maintaining control. So it's strongest in uneducated families who have lived in poverty of generations. Wow! Judge much? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Calories

I think it depends on what you are eating. The calorie counts in dense Protein cooked without fat are lower than you think. I can't yet eat dense protein that isn't blended into a soup. So if I have a beef bone broth and carrot soup, the calories are under 300 cals a serving. By the time I have pushed in 64 oz of Water, all my meds, supplements, minerals and Vitamins, my protein etc. I can still only be at around 600 calories. I think it is important to track your calories and to bump them up to at least 800 a day whenever possible. I have a friend in my support group who can eat anything and everything and stopped losing weight 3 months post op. Her calorie intake is almost triple mine in a day. Every patient is different, plans are different, so as long as you are sticking to your plan and following your team's advice, you should be fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    No longer answering these questions:

Hurrah! A post that makes absolute sense with intelligent reasoning as it's basis! My happy Friday just got happier! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Didn't think so but you did just recently insist that another poster provide proof that you had uttered something or other. You proffered your entire posting history if memory serves me right to prove your point. Yet you won't support the statement that there is a "full picture" being withheld by myself in some way? Don't worry, my days are always great! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Before this turns into yet another drama thread because I came here to let you know that you are not alone, let me say this to you then let the haters hate. Things do change. You will eventually heal. Insist on seeing your team for support, tests and advice. Drink Water because dehydration will make you sick. Keep an eye on your temperature. Any spikes in temperature should be reported to your team. Vomiting, pain and trouble swallowing should also be reported. You can see why there aren't alot of people here who discuss their regrets. Others here just can't accept or wrap their heads around this concept. We were either too stupid to understand what we were getting into or just need to wait for the sleeve nirvana that seeing weightloss will give us. I would trade the over 100lb weightloss today for a do over on this decision. My weightloss has not been because of my having a vsg, but because of starvation and malnutrition. Not a healthy way to lose weight. In the "real" world that would be anorexia. Hang in there. The "5%" of us are here, just message one of us if you need help or support. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Then don't! Move along. I am one of your 5%, deal with it. I tell everyone that things do change in time, but change is not the same as saying that the decision was correct for us. Post op complications are not the only reason people decide the vsg was not right for them. I just saw my dietition just after my six month mark, who acknowledges that for some of us it can take years to achieve minimum protein levels. Are years considered temporary? Perhaps. People who are struggling need to know this. Was I told this before surgery, no. Did I read it anywhere else? No. Congratulations on your weightloss. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. It's not like you to talk in riddles. What "full picture" exactly? And so that I am am crystal clear, I am not trying influence anyone into doing anything. I think you will find that I continually only speak about my own experience and that of people that I know in the "real" world personally. I still wonder why "happy" sleevers follow the regrets threads? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. What exactly would you like me to tell? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Oh based on what I remember and from skimming that thread again you had IBS severely even before surgery, contracted C Diff, had acid reflux beforehand which your team did not tell you could get worse (which is odd because in the US they usually switch you to bypass if you have reflux b/c the sleeve can make it worse), had a team who didn't inform you of many of the possible risks like food aversions or post op nausea.. etc etc. I just think it's important to give context when you're telling people that the surgery was the biggest mistake of your life. For those who are still considering it is good to hear all sides but people who have significant health problems before surgery may want to read your story and reconsider. Wrong! If you are going to try and tell it, tell it correctly. I contracted c diff post op. I knew about post op nausea. I knew GERD could possibly worsen post op. What context is missing? What does me having pre op existing IBS D have to do with me regretting having 85% of my stomach removed? I have said repeatedly, while my post op complications were nearly fatal, the reasons I regret my vsg are nothing to do with them. I simply don't like the results post op of how my life revolves around food and nutrition all day every day. I don't like how I feel. I don't like being weak, exhausted and dizzy. And on and on. Stop trying to insinuate that I am somehow leaving some vital piece of a puzzle out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. What I wonder is why people seek out the "regret" threads, then insist on trying to challenge those of us who do? We are entitled to tell our stories, to express our feelings. There are so many threads about doing research prior to surgery and knowing the full picture means hearing about people who think that this was a bad idea for them personally! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. K, once again I'm not sure where I placed any blame on any patient. Also it would be helpful if the people who regret it would say WHY they regret it. Look at what you are inferring. What is your point by saying information is missing etc! I have gone into minute detail repeatedly as to why I regret having my surgery. What more detail do you need? 15. Not sure when I said that she was the only one who had issues or that it was her fault? I happened to have made a similar post before I went into surgery that Gina responded to and then also read a VERY long thread she started here: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/374230-post-op-regrets-topics-not-popular/ When she responded to my post it really gave me great pause about moving forward with the surgery, but once I read through some of her other posts I realized that there was some information missing. All I was saying is that there are other things that can factor into regret of surgery, not sure why you took it so personally? What information is missing exactly? 17. Yes Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I have a very hard time dealing with people who only care that I've lost weight. To me it tells me that my value to them is only in my appearance. I'm sorry to hear about all of your complications and struggles. I hope to be able to get my Protein intake to the right goals on a daily basis. Right now at 5 weeks I'm ALMOST there, but I fear for my hair. Good luck my friend, my heart is with you. Yes! When everyone says look at all the weight loss etc. All I ask is "Do you think that I look healthy?" And they all say no, that I look ill and pale and frail. I wish you well. Try not to worry about your hair. My doctors tell me that there is little you can do to prevent the hair loss. It either happens or it doesn't. I have lost most all of my hair now. Just try to stay hydrated and look after yourself! God bless you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Can I ask what you regret specifically? Meaning, what aspect of life post surgery creates the biggest amount of regret? Is it the difficulty eating? I struggle because my life is all about food now. Food and Water. Every minute I have to be eating or drinking something, or depriving myself of drinking something so I can eat something shortly. lol! I find that to be the unexpected biggest daily hurtle. I thought I would be fine with it, When I did my 16 months on a liquid diet I didn't struggle with it at all. I realize now that's because I always knew in the back of my head it wasn't permanent. The list of specifics are too long to mention but I agree with you regarding the constant focus on eating and drinking. I was discussing this with my dietician this week. The part of dieting that I disliked was having to focus on food constantly. And now I still have to think about exactly what I am going to eat and drink and when. I have alarms set on my phone to take all my Vitamins, to keep hydrated and to eat and drink. I am malnourished, weak and dizzy. My GERD had worsened, I have had to have my PPI increased. I am losing my hair in big clumps and the hair that is left has broken off at the crown. My skin is hanging off my body and I have lost most of my muscle mass. My eyebrows are dropping out too. But I'm not fat anymore, and to some people, that's all that matters. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I have lost over 100lbs now but the health problems I have acquired post op means that I can't enjoy any benefits of being lighter. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm sorry Are they surgery related? Yes Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. Yes I do very much so my husband also had bypass 5 weeks after me and he regrets it as well Sent from my LGLS992 using the BariatricPal App I am part of a bariatric group that started our seminars together. Out of the group before us, some a few weeks after and ourselves, there are ten of us who seriously regret having had our surgeries. My neighbour had a bypass a few years ago and she also regrets having done it. I am six months out now so people will have to accept that this is not "buyer's remorse", simply a statement of fact. Problem after problem.

Your surgeon will help you. I don't think exercising is a good idea right now. If you can't eat, make sure that you are drinking Water all the time. I couldn't eat soft food for nearly 13 weeks. I drank bone broth, clear Soups and water. There are people here with symptoms but sometimes these forums aren't a place where people can talk freely about problems so they don't always post.
