    Sleeve soon!

I am sure that you will be fine but I personally think that having the majority of your stomach removed is major surgery. The majority of people do recover well and don't have much pain. Don't be mad but certainly be firm about your post op care. If I am honest, I am speechless as I have never heard about anything like this. I was on clear fluids for quite awhile so I am not sure how to advise you. I know for sure it was water the first 24 hours. Then low cal squash, diluted fruit juice, still diet drinks etc. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve soon!

To clarify about fluids, I was told to sip all the time I was awake. Aiming for 30 ml an hour from day two. I was still in hospital on day two with a drain in. Maybe you don't need compression stockings because you are moving around? As I say, I really don't understand how you could have such a major surgery with such little aftercare. All I can say is that I would contact my GP for an appt asap. You should have been given lots of information on how to look after yourself, take your meds, vitamins etc following surgery. I certainly would have a stern word with the patient coordinator too! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How to Make the Most Out of Buffets

I do wonder if I will ever get well. Everything, and I mean everything from popsicles to soup goes straight from mouth to exit point within an hour so this meal out will be tricky. It's like I have dumping syndrome with everything. So I am housebound still except for hospital appts and this little trip out today. I had to stop trying to eat anything at 4 pm yesterday to make sure I don't have an accident this morning. When I hear of people eating food successfully, I feel so sad that I don't know when I ever will. They literally don't know what is wrong with me now. So for today, I am going to fake a smile, and enjoy my little lovely. I plan to simply order the same as my daughter and just move food around my plate! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve soon!

Really glad you are okay! I am really concerned at how little info you have at the moment. I was on Water only for 24 hours. And I had no hunger at all for the first six weeks. I have been told to drink 2 ltrs a day. If the injections are the ones I had post op, they are very simple to administer and you should be having one before bed everyday. No, I don't think a nurse will come out Lulu, this is all a bit concerning because you don't seem to have any post op care. I had to wear compression stockings for six weeks post op to prevent blood clots from surgery, nothing to do with the flight. Who is going to do your post op care? I think that you had better contact your GP as soon as you get home and get some advice and instruction. What surgery did you have? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Rosie is right! You are bound to be emotional and worried. I will help anyway I can. You have to have those injections and I would definitely get the antibiotics. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

You need those injections and antibiotics. And you need to be wearing surgical compression stockings. Call your coordinator asap and ask if they can arrange them. When do you fly home? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. Yes I did but I have had severe complications. I also simply got exhausted and didn't try hard enough to get the fluids in. I drink Water from 7 am until midnight everyday now plus broth twice a day and ice pops in between. The pain in my legs went away once I was hydrated. I also now add salt to my broth and drink watered down electrolyte and mineral drinks (sort of like gatorade in the States). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I can now only sleep on my back. That is pretty normal, you will get used to it while you heal. Try not to let the drain get pulled around alot. Use pillows to support yourself around your sides so when you sleep, you won't rag it about. The drain is a good thing right now. Everything that you are saying all sounds really normal. Keep sipping your Water, it will help you. Try not to get upset, it must be hard there for you right now. Sending healing thoughts! Gina Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

No faith in myself after honeymoon phase

I read that you don't have any real medical issues apart from your cholesterol, your BMI is 35 and you only have 65lbs to lose. If that is all correct, I really hope that you get some independent counselling before you go ahead. But no one could change my mind pre op and I really wish that I had listened and done more thorough research. Much better to postpone than to live with regretting this surgery, believe me! Sleeve soon!

Yes, that sounds like a drain. Some surgeons put those in, some don't. Try to stay calm and rest, a drain is okay. Maybe write all your questions down and get them answered when your surgeon comes to see you. Is there a coordinator that organised your surgery that you can contact for help with interpretation via the telephone? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. I had similar symptoms and was dehydrated. That can be serious so you really should be contacting your doctor or go to the emergency room. As for weight loss, you are supposed to be healing now, the real weightloss starts later. Stay off the scales. People experience stalls occasionally too. I would call someone or go to hospital today just to make sure that you aren't dehydrated. I didn't know that I was when I was. Just my opinion, I am not medically trained. A big Thank You!

Anyone who has been following my story will know that I have been quite ill following my vsg on May 31st. I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone here on BP for your prayers, advice and encouragement. As I am very isolated through illness and disabilities, this forum has been a source of companionship, laughter, hope and friendship. Because I am often awake all through the night, this place helps to quell the loneliness and sadness that being in pain and feeling bereft can bring in the early hours. I know that my posts have been sad, upsetting ones. I just want you all to know that those don't represent me as a person. I am normally a cheerful, happy Christian Grandma! My path in these past 9 weeks have been extremely difficult and challenging but I am hopeful for a full recovery in time for my body and then peace in my spirit. You all know that I think that a vsg was the wrong decision for me, but I take full responsibility for that decision. Quite frankly, it was laziness that seduced me. I could have tried harder to diet and exercise. Fibromyalgia and CFS is no excuse. My greedy nature with food meant that portion control eluded me. If I couldn't have the whole tub of ice cream, don't offer me a scoop. One slice of pizza? lol A whole pizza or nothing! Food was my life, my comfort, my existence. Now it's not. This surgery means that my portions are definitely controlled. I can no longer use food for comfort and entertainment. I am forever altered in body and in mind. And I am striving to become at peace with that decision with God's help. But you all are my strength, my companionship on the journey, my kin in WLS. Thank you all and God bless! Mushy/soft foods

I know people six weeks out, with serious complications, who are eating normal foods now with very little problems. I myself am only really good with Soups at nearly 9 weeks out, which means I can't find anything at Breakfast time that I can cope with so I have a little fruit juice with tons of Water. Not everyone goes through the stages the same. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Mushy/soft foods

I am better than I was two weeks ago for sure but now have other problems on top! Having a colonoscopy on Thursday and waiting for blood results. Can't keep anything from going straight through! The abscess is still 3 cm and I now have a cyst either in or on my kidney (they haven't explained all this yet). So my plan is to just keep hydrated and ride it all out. Thanks for asking! Mushy/soft foods

I was told to follow whatever eating plan my nutritionist had me on. I made the mistake of confusing what my stomach likes with what my bowels like. And my bowels hate everything. I only introduce one new thing at a time. You must not drink liquid within or after 30 minutes of eating. Lots of things can cause the runs. Some Vitamins can, some people struggle with lactose for awhile after surgery. Antibiotics can. Too much sugar (all types), sweeteners, fats, etc can cause it. You really should see your nutritionist. Maybe take a food diary with you? Show them what you are eating and when it happens? This is just my opinion. We can't find out what's causing mine so I am having hospital tests to figure it out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. People of all ages, creeds, religions etc congregate here. With one issue (I am making an assumption here) in common, a desire to lose weight through WLS or maintain a weightloss from existing WLS. We are from all over the globe experiencing different surgeries, different surgeons in different countries. Some of us are in pain, frightened and worried. Either trying to make one of the biggest decisions of our lives or trying to deal with the aftermath of such a decision. Kindness is key, so is compassion and grace. However, the above may look and sound different to each human here! I read what I want, I say what I want, I learn loads and have made new friends. If people need to leave to keep themselves safe, then the rest of us need to respect that. The same way if a person asks a question, even if it is about a stall or drinking beer two days out, we need to show a respectful silence or look away. Everyone is valuable. Everyone here has different personalities and styles. There is little point in becoming offended whether it be because of someone being snippy on a thread or someone asking us to play nicely together! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
