Doing great. Every day gets easier. And I'm down about 21# since surgery (5weeks tomorrow) I still struggle with my new tastebuds. Didn't expect my taste to change so much. How are you doing?? Did your surgery date change? I thought you were supposed to be a few weeks ago? Don't be nervous. Be excited! Your new life starts tomorrow!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I had them 2x day for 30 days after surgery. Not a big deal. My surgeon gives it to all his patients regardless of medical history. I'm very active & have no history of anything to suggest higher risk of blood clots, but better safe than sorry! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had an abdominal binder while walking around in the hospital. It made it way easier to walk for longer times feeling my belly was supported. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I would think that your dr can only make a recommendation as to what they think is best. It's your body, you decide. Besides, if it's only "mild reflux" it may not be a problem or it may be treatable. If you get the sleeve and it's just unbearable, they can convert it to the bypass to cure it. Endoscopy for clearance
Chicken Lady replied to ML573663's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They typically do test biopsies for H pylori and other things. However, my surgeon wAnted mine done by their group that specializes in bariatric surgery clearance. I had to drive 2 hours away to their hospital to get it done. They wouldn't accept one if I got it done locally. I did have h pylori and it is NOT something I'd take a chance on. I quit my RLS meds the night before surgery. After surgery, thanks to the Oxy, I slept like a rock ! I didn't know sleep could be that peaceful! I'm only 3 weeks out (and off the Oxy for 2 1/2 weeks) ... Just starting to get the restlessness back now. I've been off all meds since surgery. I used Mirapex & Vistaril before. Blood clot concerns
Chicken Lady replied to buckeyegirl76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely discuss it with your doctor. However after surgery I am on four weeks of Lovenox injections. I give myself a shot twice a day. I have no blood clot history, it's just part of the doctors protocol. It is likely part of your doctors protocol as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I'm sure you will be fine- after all the only thing you have to do is show up & have a good nap. The surgeon has to do the hard part! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Waiting for anesthesia!
Chicken Lady replied to Chicken Lady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My hospital is a center of excellence, and they recently started a new protocol. They have you drink apple juice about 2 1/2 hours before surgery. Supposedly it helps you have a better recovery after surgery. I didn't get the info in time so missed drinking my apple juice. I don't know if it would have changed how recovery went. Other than the gas pains and being groggy, I feel like it was really OK. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Waiting for anesthesia!
Chicken Lady replied to Chicken Lady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I woke up in recovery, it was a little uncomfortable from the gas, but not too bad. I had a Dilaudid pain pump and every time I hit the button I would fall asleep for 15 minutes. Then wake up remember I was supposed to hit the button, Hit the button and fall back asleep for 15 minutes. It was my first experience with anesthesia and I was pretty sleepy more than anything else. I got up to my room in the early evening so they just encouraged me to rest and sleep it off. The next day I was much more awake, it hurt a little bit when I would swallow things too fast. Even now if I swallow too fast or gulp air it is painful behind my sternum until the air bubble comes up. I'm just learning to not swallow air or swallow too fast. I did not have any drains or catheter. I was thankful for that. Although they did to keep scanning my bladder in the recovery room to make sure it wasn't too full. When I finally got up to my room I did ask if I could go to the bathroom so they would not give me a catheter. Looking back now, it was kind of funny because I was still so sleepy from the pain meds and anesthesia that I willingly sat on a bedside commode and kept falling asleep sitting up. I'd wake up and remember oh yeah, I'm here to P and start to doze off again. Fortunately I've worked in the medical field for a long time so I wasn't embarrassed- just determined to not get a catheter! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Hi! Surgery went well. Spent Wednesday (27) to Friday (29) in the hospital- my IV blew so my nausea & pain were hard to control that Thursday so I spent the extra night there. Was sent home on liquids & purée as tolerated. I'm doing well. No pain or complaints. I lost 13# the first week, but nothing the 2nd week. Just hanging in there and learning to feed my body. I see my surgeon & nut on Thursday for my 2 week check up. Thank for checking up on me! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My surgeon allowed me to eat real solid food up until midnight before surgery in the morning. I'm sure with a little milk you will be fine. Each surgery group seems to have their own plan. But we all turn out OK. Good luck with your surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Anyone treated for H . pylori
Chicken Lady replied to Gripp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was treated for it too. Never heard of it before they found it in my EGD. I did a two-week protocol, two different antibiotics and a PPI at the same time. My surgeon made me wait 12 weeks after finishing the protocol to do the breath test. It did delay my surgery, and at the time I was very frustrated. But knowing that it is gone and that we have a healthier tummy was well worth it. They found through testing that it had given me a peptic ulcer years ago that I didn't get diagnosed. Knowing that it had already given me an ulcer, it was very important for it to be gone. It can lead to more ulcers and stomach cancer for some people. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
So... I'm havin major anxiety about this... Sorry I wrote TOO much!
Chicken Lady replied to FingersCrossed18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Im 1 week sleeved. I used to chug Water & exercise a lot too (with no real weigh loss) I'm still very early in my recovery- relearning how to eat & drink. It's tough, but totally worth it! I read through your whole post- it strikes me that you are willing to surgically change your body for your future children. I admire that. I'm sure you will be an awesome Mom. I think you shouldn't worry about not being "you" anymore- your post didn't scream "curvy crazy runner"... It screamed "mom" *thats* who you are- you just don't have your babies *yet*. So don't worry about changing who you are I used to take metformin & aldactone too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Neck and Upper Back Pain after Surgery
Chicken Lady replied to blueeyedgirlvsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke to my surgeons office this morning about a few things. One of them was that I had such a stiff neck. They said it was most likely from my position on the OR table. They said it should resolve in a few days. But that it was very common to have neck pain after surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
