    Question about meds post op

I was told that I will meet with a nurse educator to go over all that. Ask your surgical team. I'm waiting for my surgery to get scheduled. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I was asking my team about this today as I'm now done but for the waiting for approval. Everything will go to insurance once the psych report comes in on Friday (doc was on vacation). I have a desk job. I only work in the office two days a week -- I work from home the other days. My surgery will likely be on a Tuesday. I'm planning on being back in the office the following Monday. I was back at work part time (10-3) 4 weeks after a c-section, so I figure this will be a walk in the park. I don't do any lifting nor do I travel. I would think that with adequate planning you could handle the liquid diet while traveling but the lifting might be an issue.

What NSV do you hope for post op?

To walk into Talbots and buy size 8 pants/shorts/skirt. Any size 8 bottom. To walk into any department store and shop in any of the departments not just Plus. To paint my own toenails. To not looks like the Goodyear Blimp at my older daughter's HS Graduation in June 2017.

    FYI my liquid diet friends

@@rebecca wills - I think you have it backwards. Stock is generally made from bones and cooked slowly then strained. broth is made from meat. Both can stand on their own. Here's a helpful link from food Network explaining the difference between stock and broth. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/articles/chicken-stock-vs-chicken-broth.html I make most of my own stocks at home, but when I don't have time, I love Costco's Organic chicken Stock in a box. Not too salty and great flavor.
  5. I am pre-op. I have only told my daughters and husband (who live with me) and two very close, supportive friends. I'm down from a top BMI of 48.1 to 45.3. I'm hoping to have surgery in August if everything gets cleared properly. I'm planning on giving everyone the same planned response -- "I'm following a high-protein/low carb diet supervised by my medical team, including a nutritionist, and working out regularly." F**** all of them. I have enough baggage to deal with without judgment from anyone else.

    Sweeteners

I have been using Stevia in the Raw for quite some time (I'm pre-op, but I've been using it for a year) and like it for coffee. I wouldn't try to bake with it. I also use the Torani sugar free syrups for sweetening and flavor in coffee, iced tea and other drinks. They have Splenda as their sweetener.

    Weight loss

I'm following this because I'm 5' 2.5" -- that half inch is important to me and my final weight management visit is on July 6. HW 271.5 CW 256.8 - so I'm down about 15 pounds since May 11 when I had my first visit with my team. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm done with all my testing - had my endoscopy yesterday.

    Need prayers please.

Twinmomma422 You needed to let him spend the night in jail on his ass. Not bail him out. If he touches you again, you need to take out a restraining order. You need to talk to a lawyer to find out your rights in a divorce. And you need to get him to give you the money you spent on bail. He'll get it back when he shows up to court. If he doesn't you're the one out the cash. I'm sorry for your troubles, but you need to look out for yourself and your kids.

    Pre Op Workup ?

I had to do an endoscopy (did it today) when my barium swallow showed thickening in my duodenum and they wanted to make sure there were no problems in my stomach. They did a sampling to make sure I don't have H. Pylori, because if you do, you need to have it treated before you have surgery. I had bloodwork, EKG, Chest X-Ray, Pulmonary, Barium Swallow, endoscopy and psych. I do not have a history of apnea so I didn't need a sleep study. My EKG was fine and I have no heart issues, so no further heart workup.

    Backed out now..

What, specifically, are you afraid of? You need to name your fears to claim your fears. If you give us an idea of what's troubling you, we may be able to help set your mind at ease.
  11. Celebrating a milestone birthday on Saturday (which was part of what pushed me toward surgery). There will be a high Protein birthday dinner at a Brazilian Steak House. The rest of the weekend will be stuff around the house. Nothing exciting.
  12. I don't have a date yet -- it is likely going to be in August. My insurance did not require any formal weight loss, but my surgeon requires 3 months of monitoring and meeting with my NUT. My 3rd visit is July 6. I have been working on changing my habits -- chewing more, separating eating and drinking, doing high Protein low carb, reducing caffeine and carbonated drinks, etc. You might lose that much, but don't stress on it. Follow the diet given to you by your team -- it is meant to shrink the size of your liver to make the surgical process easier as they have to move your liver to get to your stomach. On May 11, I was 271.5. Today I'm 256.3. I don't have to do entirely liquid for my pre-op -- it's 2 liquid meals and one low cal high protein low fat meal for weeks prior to surgery. The weight will be coming off soon enough. Work on changing your attitude towards food and eating so you're ready for the long haul.
  13. I was out of town and forgot -- sorry 6/20 - 256.5 6/27 - 256.3
  14. We just bought this one and like it so far, but having it tell me the weather in the morning is a little freaky. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/withings-smart-body-analyzer-bathroom-scale-in-black/1041912751?skuId=41912751&mcid=PS_googlepla_nonbrand_bath_&adpos=1o4&creative=43742627989&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&product_id=41912751&gclid=CjwKEAjwka67BRCk6a7_h_7Pui8SJABcMkWRWiULHxejmx1r0X3XAva5DhEVYObu1cm2kflBoVlC4hoCwKvw_wcB

What did you weigh when you started running?

It really depends on your knees. I'm 256 right now and tried starting couch to 5k last week and thought I was going to die -- as in I needed narcotics for my knees after the first C25k 30 minute session. Now, I have bad knees to start and am staring down bilateral knee replacement, which is part of why I'm walking this path -- every 1 lb down is 5 lb less pressure on the knees. I'm pre-surgery. I don't think I'll try jogging again until I'm under 200.
  16. I'm looking at $500 per night for the hospital as a co-pay, along with $45 to each doc for visits, $275 for psych eval., $200 for nutrition consult -- plus radiology and lab copays of about $40 each. All in all, with 2 nights in the hospital, I'm probably looking at $2,000. My psych eval is Friday. I've had two visits with the surgeon, one with the cardiologist. Don't know what the endoscopy co-pay will be (probably $150). I'm already about $1000 into a max of $3500 per person per year, so I'm likely to tap out with this surgery in August and be free and clear the rest of the year.

How to help spouse accept surgery

@@rdharri - Does your program have a support group that you attend? Maybe bring him to one of the group meetings. Or have him come to one of the doc appointments. If he continues to be an idiot, you have some serious thinking to do. It is possible he is scared -- if you lose weight, he may lose you because someone who will treat you much better than he will may express interest. Best of luck.

Manayunk. Don't have my date, but likely August.

Work trying to make me delay surgery

Are you having surgery at your place of employment? Has your date been set? It sounds like you need to get HR involved. If you were having a hysterectomy due to endometriosis (needs to be done, but not urgent), it would be no different and likely the boss wouldn't ask you to postpone. Also, are you in a union? If so, talk to your union rep? Worst case scenario, you can consult an employment attorney, which will scare the crap out of the hospital. I'm pretty sure that your boss is just being an ass.

Does everyone but me have a nutritionist?

Is there a college or university nearby that offers a degree in nutrition? They may have a free/low cost clinic at which students (supervised by licensed nutritionists) learn the ropes. Also, check with your county health department or agricultural extension. They may have resources you could use. Best of luck.

    Pre op food journal?

I've been using MyFitnessPal on my iPhone since I started with my team on May 11. My goals are 8 grams of Protein and less than 5 grams of carbs in a single serving of whatever I eat. I've limited my calories to 1230 a day and I have plenty of things that fall within that number. The biggest issue for me is planning lunch -- a sandwich will throw your carb count completely out of whack. In the last 30 days, I've only had 6 days where I was over 100 grams of carbs - and two of those were while I was away for a 4 day weekend over Memorial Day. Surf Pinterest boards for Atkins recipes -- Atkins is high protein low carb. I limit myself to Pasta once every 2 weeks. If I have rice, I only have 1/4 cup (I use an ice cream scoop - it's a perfect 1/4 cup) and only have the occasional baked potato. For lunches at work (I use a chilled lunch box - I don't have access to a fridge or a microwave), I take some tuna or chicken salad I make, a nice size salad of greens, 1.5 T of homemade ranch dressing and I'm usually pretty full. To be safe, I always through a couple of cheese sticks in my lunch box to snack on if I need it. The first week cutting back on carbs is the worst -- you will have headaches and be cranky as you go through carb withdrawal.

    1200 calorie pre-op diet

My doc uses 1,000 calories for the 2 weeks pre-op -- two shakes and one meal of grilled lean Protein and low carb veggies. I've been on 1200 since I started with the practice on May 11 and I'm down 13 pounds already -- I eat every day. For me, I'll be no food after midnight the day before surgery. The biggest thing for me was cutting down on my caffeine. I'm still working on that.
  23. Earlier you mentioned that your mom may visit after surgery. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES LET HER IN YOUR HOUSE. You need to man up and tell her and your sisters to stay home and keep their opinions to themselves. Do not open their emails. Do not answer the phone if caller ID shows it is them. Tell them they are welcome to come once they have decided to support you, but if they are not going to support, they are not welcome. It will be hard. You will cry. But if you let them come to visit you, you will be beyond miserable. Temporarily cut off contact and talk to them after you are home from surgery a week or so. If they call, your husband can answer the phone and tell them you are fine, surgery went well and you are resting. Every last time they call.

What is on your Trader Joe's Shopping List?

Just bought one of these from Bed Bath and Beyond -- so easy to use. I add about 1/4 cup with Premier Caramel Protein Drink and two pumps of no sugar vanilla syrup and a squirt of Hershey's no sugar chocolate syrup. Add ice and blend. That's my go-to every morning. 165 calories. 30g protein.
