  1. Well you are wrong. Someone here did post 'Is vodka worth dying for'
  2. Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't plan on drinking but also thought it inaccurate when someone posted you could die if you had a drink.
  3. I'm glad things got better. Ask the doctor's office for a number to call 24/7 in the future. I had the nurses in the hospital surgical floor as primary and my insurance company's 24/7 nurse hotline secondary. You should have someplace for help better than this site when you are in a medical situation.

    Who all has lost hair?

    Not everyone loses hair.

    Alcohol 2 days preop

Probably the stupidest comment I've read on this site.
  6. 2 months until raw veggie, nuts, seeds or popcorn were allowed by my bariatric team.
  7. Congrats on your thinking! I think you are on the right path.

    Sleeping positions

I have always been side sleeper and didn't change post op. I was never told not too sleep on my side nor did I find it uncomfortable. Perhaps this falls into the 'Everyone is different' category.

    Hospital sleep tip!

Great solution! Wish I had that because the guy sharing my room either had family visiting like it was a party or he had the worst case of sleep apnea I ever heard. Snoring like a cow, then gasping for air. I was so happy to leave the hospital.
  10. Seriously, you need a therapist. Surgery will not help your thinking.
  11. The CPAP was never effective for me. I tried all 3 different types of masks. Never felt better in the morning after a night using the CPAP. Even went in for a 'titration' study where they adjust the settings throughout the night to find the optimal setting. sleep apnea was the medical problem I wanted most to be eliminated by weight loss surgery. Success!!! After a 30 pound (10%) weight loss the sleep apnea is gone. No more snoring and finally getting restful sleep after 5 years of being sleep deprived. I hope you have the same experience!
  12. Similar thing happened to me. 2 weeks before surgery I learned that my surgeon hadn't submitted the necessary documentation to be on United Healthcare's approved list of surgeons. The surgeon begged me to be patient and wait for her to get approved. I was angry as I'm sure you are. Really needed the Serenity Prayer over this. It was really an amateur mistake. They had 6 months to get everything in order. I didn't hesitate a moment to switch to the other surgeon in the hospital's bariatric program. Ended up delaying the surgery by 2 months because of course his schedule was full. There was a cancellation so I only had 1 week to prepare but that was fine. Everything works out in the end.
  13. sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder that can cause weight gain beside high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke & diabetes. It doesn't go away with ear plugs. I would be learning everything possible.

    Crab legs

I love crab legs! I would go very light on the drawn butter though, my stomach can't handle the fat. Enjoy!
  15. My only regret is not having this done sooner.

    Urinating Pain (males)

My pain began when I started Clear liquids and I was urinating 20 times a day. It felt like my uretha was irritated all the time, not just when urinating. When I awoke from surgery the catheter drove me crazy. The resident said I had uretha stricture. I didn't have much confidence in his opinion though because he only spent about 5 minutes with me. So the irriration continued for about a month post op. I went to my primary care physician and he thought perhaps I picked up an infection from the catheter but I told him it was irritated before surgery begining when I went to clear liquids and urinating 20 times a day. He took a urine analysis (needed to rule out STDs) and referred me to a urologist. It took 2 weeks to get an appointment with the urologist and during that time I reduced my liquids consumption so I wouldn't have to urinate so frequently. The irritation has improved so I cancelled the appointment with the urologist. I'm going to give it some more time before I consider seeing the urologist because I believe he's going to want to stick a scope up in it. Is any of this the same for you?

When you can take pills again?

Wow... So many different instructions. I'm 6 weeks post op and still required to crush pills. It has been very intrusive because some of my medications are time released and crushing them negates that benefit. So I had to switch to an immediate release taking throughout the day. What a pain in my shrinking ass! Hoping at 2 month follow up I'll be cleared to swallow pills whole again.
  18. Alone. Visitors would have been a nuisance since I just wanted to sleep. Only spent 1 night in hospital.
  19. Wish I had your doctor/dietician. My preop diet was Water & broth. Lost 10 pounds in a week but I did not find enjoyable in the least.

    Sleep Apnea

I live alone too so there was no way of me knowing if I snored or had sleep apnea. Try using the app Snore Lab. It records snoring and displays the levels on a bar graph as well. A month post op and a 30 pound (10 %) weight loss the sleep apnea and soring is gone. That alone made the surgery worth it for me. The snoring that the app is now recording is from my dog. LOL

    Backed out now..

Fear is an emotion. Fear is not a fact. I reminded myself of the facts...... Fact....Thousands of people have done this before me and have been successful. Fact....If I do this my health problems (sleep apnea, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes) will be gone. Fact....When I am a healthy weight, my life will be better. What are your facts?

    No More CPAP?

I suspected the sleep apnea was resolved in my first month after a 30 pound (10%) weight loss. Since I live alone there wasn't anyone to confirm. So I found a free app called SnoreLab and downloaded to my cell phone. It records snoring and apnea episodes throughout the night. It confirmed there was zero apnea episodes and snoring was now minimal to none. My dog snores more than I do now. CPAP went in the trash. That alone made the surgery worth it !!!!!

    Checking in alone?

I found there really is no need for someone to be with me until I was discharged to drive me home. I've had at least 5 surgeries without visitors. It wasn't sad and I didn't cry. I had no desire to have visitors or socialize with family/friends. All I did for the 1 night I was in the hospital was sleep and have pain managed. It would have made me very uncomfortable to have visitors while I was hooked up to a catheter and using a bed pan. Also if you have a shared room, having family/friends visiting could be inconsiderate towards the other patient who needs sleep. it's bad enough getting waked up by the nurses not only caring for myself but the other patient as well. The hospital did require a 'responsible individual' to take me home. No Uber or taxi. They needed her name and phone number to contact when I was ready to be discharged.

    One Week Post-op - Hungry!

Same thing happened to me. At my 2 week follow up I mentioned this to the nutritionist wondering if the surgeon truly removed the ghrelin. (stupid, i know) This has since gone away. Perhaps it was a results of having only liquids because I don't feel that hunger since progressing to pureed foods. I have also needed to learn the difference between hunger and having an empty stomach. My stomach was never empty before surgery. If my stomach felt empty, I put more food in it. Hang in there....each week gets exponentially better!
