I Want My Band Removed Now!!!!!
austinglobe replied to yazmarrero85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had no restriction until I had several fills. I need to have at least 2.6 cc's in my 4 cc band for restriction. -
Yesterday B: 1 egg, 1/2 low carb tortilla L: 2 chicken tenders, mushrooms D: 1 chicken thigh with capers, 8 oz almond milk so far today... B: 1 eggs, 1 slice turkey bacon

It's true!! Restriction at 30,000 ft.

I fly a lot, and sometimes it affects me, and other times it doesn't. Most recently on a flight to Phili, the stuff I ate before I got on the flight started coming up - it was like a huge air pocket was trapped. -
This thread inspired me to low carb it. I'm been at a plateau for almost a month, and BINGO this broke it. Today: B: 1 egg and 1 slice of lean turkey bacon, 8 oz almond milk L: 1 chicken thigh/asparagus/2 teaspoons hummus s: 1/2 of a low carb tortilla D: 2 baked chicken tenders, mushrooms

I Want My Band Removed Now!!!!!
austinglobe replied to yazmarrero85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had a lot of challenges with the band, but I think I can offer you some support. I think what you are experiencing is normal. RIght after my surgery, I could not eat more than 1 6oz yogurt and it took me all day to eat it. I got through it by drinking apple juice mixed with water. By the end of my first month, I could eat exactly the same way I did pre-banded. I had no restriction at all after the swelling went down. I hope you start feeling better soon. -
If you can find it, try to find a trainer that offers both. I had a trainer where I went to her bootcamp 3 days/week for an hour then I attended a 1.5 hour training session on the weekend. It helped me keep the costs affordable, but she also was aware of all the muscle groups i had worked on during the week to keep things balanced.

My boyfriend of 4 years told me about two weeks ago that when he was trying to describe a hamburger that a friend was eating, my face flashed in his head and he called the hamburger "fat". He said this in front of me, and at the time I thought nothing of it. Later that night he said he had a "confession" that when he used the word "fat" that he felt gratified when he said it. He said that part of him felt like "see I told you (me) that you are fat." He did it again the other night while ordering on a menu saying he would not get ribs because of the fat in them. He immediately "confessed" again that when he said "fat" he thought of me. I asked him - "do you have a problem with my weight?" And he said "yes, every guy wants to date a supermodel." I told him, "if you want to date a supermodel - go find yourself one." He gave me flowers later that day, but he hasn't said he's sorry. When I met him, I was 225, and my highest weight while we have been together is 245 (pre-band), my lowest 212, and I'm currently at 230. At first I was hurt, but now two days have passed, and I'm pretty pissed. I wasn't skinny when I met him, and now 4 years later he has a problem with me? Has anyone faced something like this? I've been criticized for my weight all of my life, but I've never had someone this close to me judge me for it.

Lap Band Solutions~Dr Benavides???anyone?
austinglobe replied to srknepler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
At that time, they were AIGB, and they swore to me monthly that they were opening a surgery center/fill station in Austin. To my knowledge this has never happened. At the time I met him, he said he would spend one day in Austin when that happened, and I never got the feeling that he would never be part of my aftercare. He did not specifically mention that all care was provided by his support staff during my one pre-op mtg. My care was compromised when I had complications and needed an unfill, but I don't blame that on Dr. B. I spent a week calling AIGB trying to get an unfill at any AIGB location, and they finally told me to go to Houston. Keep in mind, I've had a band slip and two complete unfills due to complications. I finally gave up on AIGB because they could not provide me the aftercare I needed especially at long-distance. -
I have PCOS and was banded in 11/04. I've had a very difficult time losing any weight. I've also had a band slip and my fill taken out twice - so it's not only PCOS related complications.

Lap Band Solutions~Dr Benavides???anyone?
austinglobe replied to srknepler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded by Dr Benavides, but I've never seen him after surgery day - over 3 years ago. I used to drive to the surgery center in Richardson - for the first year and 1/2, but the doctor was never at any of my follow-ups. Now I have a doctor in Austin who does every fill for me and even answers by emails personally. -

Seeking support - hurt feelings
austinglobe replied to austinglobe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for all of the advice and kind words. You have helped me see the writing on the wall. He was about 250lbs until may of last year when he started dropping a lot of weight quickly. Turns out he was an undiagnosed diabetic, and he lost 50 lbs by the time he was diagnosed in August. Maybe now that he's looking better, I'm no longer suitable for him. -
I am a self-pay patient who was banded in Nov. 2004. On operation day, I was 240 lbs. I started losing when I got a good 2cc fill in mid-2005. By November 2005, I was 212 lbs. This lasted until Feb. 2006 when I had a vomiting episode and a band slip. They emptied my band, and I gained to 218. As they put some fill back in, I had severe gastric reflux with pain so bad it made me pass out once. They emptied my band again and put me on liquids only for a month. I lost weight on liquids to 207, and was slowly adding fill back to my band through early 2007. In Feb. 2007, at 232 lbs, I got a decent fill (2.2 cc) for the first time in a long while, but after several deaths in my family and two sprained ankles, I stopped getting fills and exercising...until now. Now I'm 236 lbs, and getting my first fill in a year tomorrow. This has been a frustrating and long road. It amazes me that a group like this forum exists now -there was so little when I started this journey. I hope to come back here often and try to work with this band with the help of all of you.

There are some people who have had wonderful successes with the band on this board. I'm one of the few who have had complications - a band slip, severe reflux, and my fills totally removed twice. I wish you luck if you do this, but it hasn't been an easy road for me. I have had my band for 4 years.

POLL Should I have them redone to make them perfect... Breast pictures
austinglobe replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Each breast is actually a unique surgery site from the other. You may not heal, drop and fluff at the same rate on both sides. I would give it time for everything to take course. If it's not more even in a year, then I would look into a revision. Did you get the same cc's on both sides? -
4cc band, perfect fill?
austinglobe replied to aprilbene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've had my band 4 years and never found the perfect fill. They most they have put in without complications is 2.2 cc on a 4cc band -
I have the same exact pain. If I sit up straight, sometimes I can belch and relieve the pressure. I've had stabbing pain in that area as well that turned about to be reflux.

Keeping it a secret?
austinglobe replied to Fluffy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was band Nov 2004. Initially, I told only my mother, father, boyfriend, sister and 1 friend. Since that time, I've only told one other person, my aunt. I am very glad I told no one else. I had band problems and gained all but 4 lbs back. I've been battling band issues for 1.5 years (slippage, reflux, and emptying my band 2x.) -
I was banded in 2004, and I still have port pain when I do certain movements or worst yet, when my boyfriend hugs me and accidentally rubs on it. Port pain has been my biggest band peeve.

Maybe some acid reflex? I had very bad acid reflux and it was a sharp pain just to the left under my rib cage.
