Why do you think Drs are so different?
ButterflySeoul replied to Ssze1109's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All people are different -- not all have the same experiences.. so maybe some programs tailor their protocols to what they feel would be most beneficial to their patients in the long run. Maybe others have their protocol now-- but that could be open to change- perhaps based on more patient experience. Maybe out of concern for their own practices. If they have patients who have experienced complications after surgery- that might make them reevaluate their protocols. -

How Was Your Thanksgiving?
ButterflySeoul replied to cuteNATL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made myself up a nice little lunch bowl with two pieces of turkey, about a tablespoon & 1/2 of garlic mashed potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce and this cauliflower "stuffing" dish that my hubby made for me (no actual stuffing involved lol) and had a small spoon of gravy over my turkey. I ate less than 1/2 of the bowl and was full.. but I went back to it and ate a little more about an hour later. I was still full all day until about 8 last night.. then I had a small piece of apple pie that I deconstructed and ditched the top crust lol. I was down 2 lbs this morning lol. -

3 months Post-op..... what a difference!
ButterflySeoul replied to KenKen_vsg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Do you use a smaller plate? If not-- go out and get yourself a really nice (but smaller) special plate that will look more full with a smaller amount on it.. go for that turkey and other Proteins first..and listen to your tummy She'll let you know lol. -

You are doing fantastic! -
I was put on prilosec 3 months I think, before my sleeve.. and continued to take it until about 2 months after my surgery.. I haven't needed it since. But I don't know if I'm the norm.. I read a lot ahead of time, that it could actually worsen after sleeve.. it didn't in my case. If I had a higher starting weight than I did- I may have gone for gastric bypass just to avoid that.. but sleeve just seemed like the least invasive for me with the most benefit.

Drinking sprite
ButterflySeoul replied to mixhelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The carbonation will not be your friend. I agree with Kmorri if it's just a taste thing- then let it sit out or stir it until it goes flat.. but there's no benefit to drinking it. You want to be getting in Water to stay hydrated, and Protein to keep healing that new stomach of yours. Sprite isn't going to give you anything that you need nutritionally- so why risk it? -
9 months out- 100 ibs lost

Wow! Congrats-- you're doing fantastic! -
I don't think I was allowed to add fruit in until after my 6 week follow up.. I don't think grapes would be my first choice even then.. very high in sugar. If I did though- I would probably take the time to peel them and seed them if they're not already seedless. But.. in general, I'd just say no. Too soon.

I think it might depend on where you are.. but at my 1st appointment I was weighed, vitals taken, ekg, chest xray..and given a lot of info to read through-- some of it was a refresher on what was discussed at the first orientation meeting or whatever they called it- at the hospital, where new potential candidates go for info on the different surgeries.. and some of it more nutritional.. also was set up with appointments for the psych evaluation, and with a nutritionist.

I was allowed thinned cream of wheat early on-- I can't remember if it was in full liquid though or the next stage up.. but I remember it being wonderful lol. I thinned it quite a bit with skim milk, and added a scoop of Protein powder to it.

Protein in pudding?
ButterflySeoul replied to mnopali's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was still in the early post-op stages, I would mix a scoop or a 1/2 a scoop of Protein powder into my sf pudding-- I was using the sf pudding cups- already made ones-- not making my own pudding.. and when I added the Protein Powder (chocolate unjury) the pudding would instantly thin out and get very liquidy... which was kind of weird.. but worked fine for that stage anyway. Not sure if that's helpful lol. -
Describe your meals and exercise please
ButterflySeoul replied to MommyB's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Breakfast is usually a Protein shake-- I make mine with fairlife skim milk, or add Protein powder to a mcdonalds sf vanilla iced coffee.. on the weekends bfast is usually scrambled eggs w/ cheese and if I'm lucky some bacon lunch is anything from sliced deli turkey (I like butterball's thanksgiving turkey when the deli doesn't run out of it!) with some whole berry cranberry sauce (not a lot, because I know its not sugar free), or a turkey burger w/o a bun and topped with whatever I can find and pack, left overs like pulled pork, Soups, etc. dinner is whatever my hubby is making-- we'll do taco night without the taco shells, chicken w/ guac & cheese and usual taco toppings, turkey burgers, minute steaks w/ onions and mushrooms (I don't eat a lot of beef since surgery- but minute steaks go down with out issue), lots of soups done in the crock pot this time of year- this week we did a fish chowder and a cheeseburger Soup, fish, shrimp, etc. Snacks- P3's, cheese sticks wrapped in deli meats (like salami, ham, etc.), dannon light & fit greek yogurts, single serving pkgs of pistachios, Protein Bars, etc. Exercise is walking every day-- if I don't get outside to walk, I will do Leslie Sansone walking dvd's.., my fit board, and that's about it now that it's too cold here for the pool. -
Stop when full, or push on to get required protein in - confused
ButterflySeoul replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I just can not get in the required Protein amounts if I have only 3 meals a day. I have to spread out little mini-meals or Snacks through out the day, in order to get in what I really need. I am 7 months out and still have a protein shake for Breakfast every day (except on weekends).. at work I get two 15 minute breaks, plus my 1/2 hr lunch.. so I bring some type of protein snacks for those break times-- usually a P3, a small bag of pistachios or other nuts, a cheese stick wrapped in some type of lunch meat, a yogurt.. things like that. I see a lot of confusion on faces at work- where they see me shrinking but constantly see me eating little snacks lol.
