Car ride home from hospital
ButterflySeoul replied to shotgun72000's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I second (or third or fourth..) the pillow! I was lucky- there is someone who makes pillows for all of the bariatric patients at the hospital where I had my surgery, so I got one the morning of my surgery, and it was on my bed with me when I got to my room. I used it every time I had to get up to use the bathroom, or walk. I would also try to get an abdominal binder--- I wore one home from the hospital and that thing was a life saver! It really helped with the pain of getting up and sitting back down.. and going for walks too. I also wore it under my clothes for my first two weeks back to work. -
Any suggestions for purée
ButterflySeoul replied to traceygirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tried but could not do pureed fish...that was the only thing that I could not keep down. oof. I went the easy route and pureed Soups, my fav is split pea with ham. I got the Healthy Request or whatever they are, from Campbell's. Pre-surgery I probably would never have gone for the "healthy" versions of soup (lower sodium) but my tastes have really changed. And that split pea w/ ham has a good amount of Protein in it! I also got pkgs of instant mashed potatoes, and pureed some chili to mix with it. I need flavor lol-- that's what I had for dinner tonight. I also like blending up some turkey breast, cottage cheese, sauce and some shredded cheese. -
seriously??

Odd Jittery Feeling..
ButterflySeoul replied to NeedaBreak4Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
100 after eating is probably a little low but a good number-- blood sugar numbers post surgery I don't have much experience with yet lol.. .this will definitely be something I talk to the NUT about when I see her on Thursday.. we're so low carb that they will be much lower than any "normal" from before surgery. -
Odd Jittery Feeling..

Do you have a kit to check your blood sugar? The jittery part makes me think low blood sugar. I have had that feeling once already, half way through a walk and tested when I got home... it was perfect- 101.....but perfect is new to my newly sleeved self lol. I know all the different hospitals/programs have different time lines, but I'm surprised too that yours clears for solids so early. I had surgery on Apr. 26 and still in puree stage. I go on thurs for my 1st follow up with he nutritionist. This is the protocol that I got- 1st 3 weeks full liquid... 4th week advance to puree.. 7th week soft foods.. months 2 and 3 - soft to regular.. etc.. good luck on your journey! -
9 DAYS. Freaking out!

Breathe! You'll be good to go! My surgeon doesn't have patients do a liquid diet pre-surgery, though we were required to lose 5% of our body weight prior to.. I would just try to find some good Protein powder that you like-- you'll need it for when you get home anyway. I'm also diabetic.. be prepared that your numbers may be high in the hospital while you're on the IV, they'll monitor it and as soon as you get off the iv, they start to go down. I've had nice low blood sugars ever since Bring some slippers or flip flops with you, and maybe a robe, and as soon as you feel up to it-- and maybe sooner than that, have one of the nurses take you for a walk around the floor! The sooner you get walking the faster you'll get better. For me- my throat was very sore from the tubes. One of the nurses was able to get the doc to let me have chloraseptic spray and that made a huge difference. Recovery- once I was home was much quicker for me, than I expected. If you can find an abdominal binder before surgery (they sometimes have them at the hospital but not always)-- that was a life saver for me! I wore it home from the hospital, and it really helped when we had bumps to drive over.. and I wore it when I went out for short walks. I also wore it my first two weeks back at work just for some extra support and tummy protection. -

ButterflySeoul replied to boosh10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said about 1-1.5 hours... maybe your doctor is including prep and recovery room time. -

Hi I was sleeved on 4/26 too! My first two days were rough, because of nausea and sore throat from tubes,,the night nurse got me some throat spray and that helped a lot..I had to put off my swallow study to wed. and it still made me throw up-- thankfully they got enough pics before that! I think the swallow stdy was the worst part of the whole thing lol. Hope you are feeling better every day!
