Did you sweat less after surgery?

Oh man, I cannot WAIT for this! Still pre-op, but this is my most anticipated NSV (besides getting healthy, of course). I freeze my kids out in the car- the air conditioner is on full blast at all times. (they each have blankets beside them in case they get too cold). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal AppCongratulations on your journey! I am slightly obsessed too... lol I guess because really it's the start of something great! I don't know which one I want yet either.. still debating. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App Good luck to you! I have the last couple requirements scheduled for July. Besides continue to stay good on my physician assisted weight loss, I'm going to go insane waiting for the approval between then and October. Where are you in your path? 3. How did the psych evaluation go? That's one of the things I'm more nervous about for some reason Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App It was fine. A lot of questions on a computer. True/False Pretty straight forward. "I eat when bored", "I have seriously contemplated suicide in the last year" "I binge eat daily", "I have a support person for this journey" "I have lost weight successfully in the past". Etc... Mine was followed by a chat with the psychiatrist and she asked more questions, but none were hard or emotional or off-base. She set up a second meeting in July because she wants to see how my depression is affected by the nutritional adjustments and added exercise the nut will suggest. She has had the RNY herself and gave me a realistic straight up explanation that this is NOT a quick fix of all things fatty and depressing. It requires work and commitment. Surgery will help immensely but is not the cure. It was an easy discussion. Nothing to get stressed over. Remember they WANT you to succeed, and they want your business, but they are there to make sure you get off on a great start. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. I'm pre-op. I've met with Psych, Nut, each once. Had my EKG and EGD, about to do a Metabolic test on Tuesday. I need to complete one more Phych aptmt and 2 more Nut aptmt and complete a total of 6 months "physician assisted weight loss" which started beginning of May. Hoping for Lat Oct or Early November surgery date. Highest: 290. Current 280. Goal weight 150, though I'd be satisfied at 175. I'm 5'6. Leaning toward RNY, but still considering sleeve. No co-morbidities. I have a good support system and am researching the hell out of this. Kind of obsessed, maybe. Trying to soak EVERYTHING in. Other people's stories, books, doctors info, fitness trackers, food journals, etc... I'm a sponge right now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I have 2 little girls (3 and 6 yrs old) and I'm still trying to figure out how to talk with them about all this. I'm in the beginning stages, pre-op. I am 290 now and hope to get closer to 150. Leaning toward bypass, but not completely decided against sleeve. Surgery timeframe is likely October. Folks with little kids: How did you prepare your kids for the surgery? Your recover time? The dramatic change in your size? In meal changes? What words did you use (knowing kids repeat everything to everyone, I'm trying to be careful in how I phrase my explanations). I don't want them to be in the dark, but I want them to only know what's important for their developmental age. I don't want them to worry about me, nor get a weight / identity complex themselves. Would love your thoughts. Resource material? Anything. I'll be discussing this with my psychologist next month, but all insight is helpful. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Thank you SweetPeas. This is how I've planned on it going. Good to know some success and acceptance has come from it. I appreciate your feedback. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. Thanks Inspyrdbyu. Some good things to consider. My 6 year old is a nurturer, so I'll definitely have help in my recovery stage from a mini nurse (she was amazing when I was recovering from ankle surgery. Always reminding me to do my PT). Thanks for your response. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Jenetts, Keep us posted on your progress! How are you doing with the pre-op diet? What's your program? Are you doing sleeve or bypass? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Wow! Linzlou2000! We have similar start weight and body shape. I am just starting this journey (although docs are expecting an Oct surgery date) and I hope to be as successful as you. What was the rate of loss for you? Start slow or fast? Any major stalls? Any funky stuff you want to share about the Sleeve? I'm still considering bypass or sleeve. Thanks! So many QUESTIONS HELP!

I'm just starting the process. Leaning toward Gastric Bypass. I have no comorbidities. 5'6" and 290 current weight. My initial consult was May 11th where I had a discussion about procedures, had blood drawn for lab tests, and an EKG. Today, 5/16, was my psych consult. Soon, the nutritionist will be scheduling an appointment. Then an EDG. After all that is done (and after a supervised weight loss period) then we will apply for insurance. They expect that there will be a 30 day wait for insurance (BCBS Mi PPO) approval. They said that an Oct Surgery date is a likely timeframe. *crossing fingers* Good luck to you! P.s.
