Me too-I been involved with this process for over 10 months and had my second consultation with the doc. Almost the same conversation- the weight will come off with the bypass--the band only about 60-70% of the weight will come off within the first 2 years. Fills and .... all the pros and cons. My surgeon has been doing lap band for over 5 years and bypass for 8 more so he is considered experienced. Just very confused.

Iam nearing the end of the 6 month diet and just heard from the surgeon. I have an August appointment and all testing has been done. Has anyone had there surgery done in the metro detroit area? Has anyone been turned down after all of this?? I guess I have a case of the nerves this process has been going on since November 2007. Thanks:rolleyes2:

Iam from michigan and have the bc/bs of michigan ins and my plan requires the 6month diet. My pcp was the one who suggested the band. Some docs have an opinion about wls and tend to convey that to the patient. Hopefully your doc will reconsider and get on board with the surgeon. Best of luck. -
congrats-snuffy I too Iam going thru the bcbs/mi maze. Iam in Dearborn and going thru the Oakwood healthcare sys. Very excited but the wait is a challenge- doing the doc supervised diet and just joined ww in the area. Good luck to u.

sorry not familiar with belite (sp) but have you checked out Oakwood Hospital...Dr. Bacal and his group seems very knowledgeable. Terry the coordinator is on top of her game and could walk you through the self pay stuff that you might need.

Hi everyone- Iam also going thru the 6mo diet and dealing with BCBS of michigan. The coordinator at the surg. office is very proactive. She knows all the ins and outs for the insurance and very involved with my pcp. So the extra time is all good.

So happy for you- I just started my 6month diet with my PCP and I had some mixed emotions but after the appointment I feel everything happens for a reason. August would be a better time of year for me-youngest graduating from HS and going out of state for college so the time delay would be better. -
Hi Jigboy Iam starting that today with my doc. The BCBS of Mich requires this now. I had planned for things to be different but at least I will not have to do the year that was required in 2007. So that is some good news. If I lose some weight the recovery will be better for me. Try to stay positive.

Hi all Iam from MI- metro detroit area and going the pre-op process. The testing and all that, but I have gotten approval from the insurance company and the surgeon believes that Iam a good canidate--two hurdles down and more to go. Iam looking forward to starting this journey and thrilled that this is available for support.
