    Small Appliances and Kitchen Gadgets

I have a great little gadget that I use once or twice a week...it's a Veggetti. It spiralizes veggies for faux veggie "pasta". I got it at Bed Bath & Beyond for $10-awesome!!! I ate off the spiralized menu at Houlihan's and loved the dish so much, I went out looking for my own tool. I don't recommend much, but this I truly love and use, plus it's very inexpensive. Happy cooking & best of luck on your journey! ~Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  6. I know it seems counter intuitive but it really works. And yes, the Pandora aspect is there, because at one time we were completely unaccountable with food. The strategy I used incorporated small incremental additions of calories at a time. Approach it like an experiment. You saw success with 900. You can build from there. My doctor says when weight stalls, you need to mix it up, there is no magic formula but some good old "trial and error"-no one is saying jump to 1,200 calories plus. If you're at 900, I'd build from there. It might also be time to mix up your workout. Just some friendly suggestions-not trying to be preachy. I was just bummed with my stall and this was the advice I was given from a doctor, a fitness trainer and the nutritionist. Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  8. I think a big factor you have to remember is your final sentence. Being 30 pounds from goal is nearly the end of your journey. *Big celebration!!* :-) It'll be harder because your body is fighting against you to give up the last reserves you have. My doctor said the closer you get to goal weight the higher the likelihood and frequency plateaus occur. I had to do the same, raising my calories and increasing my workout seemed proportionally the same, if that makes sense. As I added workout intensity and length of time, I added the calories with it and my plateau ended. Best of luck and congrats!!! Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hydration/Dry Mouth

Mouthwash is also good. Use the toothpaste and the mouthwash as a combo, especially at night. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hydration/Dry Mouth

I'd also suggest Boitene. I used their mouthwash and toothpaste for 6 months, at the suggestion of my dentist. I had a 6 month check up days after my bypass and it made a world of difference. I never struggled getting in the fluids but my mouth was dry regardless of how much I drank. The dentist said it would bridge the gap until my body adjusted. Dry mouth can head to lots of dental issues if it persists too long. Hope this helps, Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    One week away.

Time to be selfish and attend to your needs. It's like putting the oxygen mask on yourself first. You can be the best mom when your the healthiest mom. Taking a small reprieve to get stronger and healthier in the long run is "big picture smart"-in my opinion. :-) Best of luck! ~Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Any teachers here?

Just read your last post, if you can't move it up, moving it back might be good. Have a month in, then take tour time, be back before your first quarter ends, conferences, etc. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Any teachers here?

Echoing nyteacher!! I think a consultation with the surgeon or scheduler is in order. With as hands on you have to be in kindergarten, and at the start of the year...ooohh boy. I just think about being on the carpet and having to be "on" all day. I taught intermediate and I was always exhausted during the first few weeks-no surgery. I think you either need at least two weeks (I totally understand the sub issue, then add beginning of the year and kindergarten) or see if they could move your surgery up a month. I just think your recovery will be severely compromised. Sending you best wishes though!! ~Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Best grocery stores?

I agree with both Surfer Girl and Mbale. I'm a fan of TJ's, farmer's markets and WF-but I think WF is a bit over-priced. I've heard Aldi's also has good products but haven't gone myself. The same company owns both TJ's and Aldi's-so there could be some overlap. Best of luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Not again! Help! Need advice!

So you're "cleared" to comment on our comments but we're not to respond? I think you should take your own advice and send your "kind words" and not scold anyone. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Not again! Help! Need advice!

I fail to see any negativity from anyone, myself included. You asked: If anyone knew of a set period of time that your doctor would want you healthy for.... That is asking for responders to provide you with medical advice. You were directed to the one person who could answer the question-your doctor. I think your being overly sensitive and asked for advice that you claimed to already know-so, not sure what you wanted or expected??? You seemed more concerned with getting a surgery than going into that surgery fully healthy. I simply tried to offer advice that you requested. Titling your post "Help! Need advice!" And then criticizing people who took time to address your request is...., well, I'll leave that up to you to decide. :-/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Not again! Help! Need advice!

Wouldn't your surgeon be the best person to ask? It doesn't matter what other people think or what general surgical guidelines exists...it's your surgeon's call. I'd leave a message first thing Monday morning and go from there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Congrats! It's an adjustment to see the scale plummet over a long period of time, only morph into a snail's pace....I've been there. If you see weight loss in decades, you're now in the Roaring 20's-so it should be fun!! All the best! Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    plateau/Stall

Up to 21 days is a normal stall. But after your body has recalculated, balanced and re-set, you'll be back on your way. I agree with Surfer Girl, you have to embrace them. As frustrating as they are, you can't go the distance without encountering them-no one can. Think of it as going on a long hike up a mountain, you'd have to make some stops to take a break and recoup. Losing weight is no different. Your body is stressed and trying to catch up to all the changes your making. It needs those stalls to allow you to push further down the road. I was also told, the closer you get to go, the frequency can increase, not for as long (like the 14-21 day stalls) but those final pounds are the most challenging because your body doesn't want to give up the final reserves. Hope this helps. Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pain on liver side

When I had my surgery that pain lasted for three weeks. At my two week follow up the surgeon said some people can experience pain for 3-4 weeks depending on several factors. By the next week, week three, my pain was gone. I also have a high tolerance for pain and only used pain meds 2 days after getting home. Based on my experience, you're still in the "normal" window. If it persists past week three, I'd discuss it with your surgeon. Hope this helps. Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
