  1. I didn't have them. I didn't even have the massaging things on my legs during recovery.

Surgery in Mexico and coming home less 1 organ!

The pancreas regulates your blood sugar, no blood sugar=death. You receive a pancrease from a deceased donor. Maybe you should research what the pancreas does and you will see for yourself you can't live without one. BTW, I have a kidney transplant.

    Self Fill

$1,000 omg, that is unbelievable!! I'm self pay and just had my first fill today, it had better not cost that much, I was thinking maybe $150.
  4. From everything I've read on here, it sounds like you are too tight. Has your surgeon suggested taking out some of the cc's you have? I just had my first fill today so am not familiar with what you are experiencing. Is there another surgeon in your town you can see? You really need to get to the bottom of this.

    Help! Potty Problems...

Miralax worked wonders for my son who, as the doctor put it, "had a colon full of crap". It doesn't work overnight but it did work within days. He had to have it everyday for 3 months. I would try Miralax. That is my plan if it happens to me.

I fell off the liquid wagon...

the whole point of the liquid diet is to shrink your liver, the smaller it is, the easier it is for the surgeon. If you can do the 2 weeks, I say go for it.

I fell off the liquid wagon...

You are fine. Don't beat yourself up. Your surgery will happen.
  8. My driver's license weight is no longer a lie!!!

    Help - protein shake preferences!

I use Quest Whey protein with milk and I really like it. You can also google Unjury and they have samples you can order. Nectar is also another brand. I got the lemonade version and didn't like it.

    Anyone on Prednisone daily?

I just had my meeting with my doctor and he ok'd me!! I just need to pay for everything so I can schedule the surgery, I'm hoping to have it at the end of May. Anyway, I take 5mg of Prednisone everyday because of my kidney transplant. Prednisone is my doctor's biggest hangup. He said it could errod the band in time. Anyone else on daily prednisone and if so, have you had any complications because of it?

Just had first fill.. Is this aggressive?

My first fill is 7/17. I have a 5cc band. My doctor said they usually put 1.5 or 2.0 cc in the first fill so it doesn't sound aggressive to me.

    Cigarrettes anyone???

It's not because of the band, it's because of the healing from the surgery. I had a kidney transplant and they told me they wouldn't do it if I smoked because of the problems it causes healing. You have to have stopped smoking at least 2 weeks prior to surgery before my doctor would touch me. I quit smoking 9 years ago so I didn't have a problem but you really do need to stop before your surgery, not just because it is bad for you, but you can have complications because of it.

    Pre-op diet question????

I didn't use pre-made shakes, I bought protein powder and added it to either milk or water. I used Quest protein powder that I bought at a pharmacy in my town. I've also tried Unjury powder and it isn't bad at all. You might see if you can find a powder and try to make your own shakes.

how long does the surgery take

I had my surgery last Wednesday. I was knocked out at 7:15 and the doctor came out to talk to my mom between 9-9:30. The PA had told me it takes about 45 minutes to get everything ready before they make the first cut. My last 2 surgeries, I always get sick the next day because of the anesthetic, this time I didn't. They had given me a prescription for suppositories for nausea but thankfully I didn't have to use them.

    banded today!

Everything went well. I did have 1 problem, I wasn't able to pee. I had to get a cathedar to empty my bladder and they let me go home. I haven't peed at home either. Did anyone else have this happen and how do you remedy it?? Jill

    banded today!

I peed on my own at 3 am!! I think I willed myself to do it. I didn't want to go to the ER & get cath'd and have to pay all of that money. I'm still very sore, which is to be expected but I'm hanging in there. I'm drinking and resting and taking my pain meds. Hope all of the rest of the newly banded people are doing well.
  17. If you click on one of them, it should take you to the website where you create them.

Are you working out while on preop liquids?

I'm on pre-op as well. I belong to curves and attempted to go twice. I could only make it around the circuit 1 time instead of 2 times. I'm not going to try it again before surgery. I got real shaky and just couldn't do it. I felt guilty but I didn't want to push it either.

    Renal Patient

I got my transplant before the lap band. I don't have the lap band yet, 1 week from today.

I can't answer how long it would take to get the surgery, it depends on if your insurance pays or if you are going to be self-pay. I am self-pay and attended my first seminar at the end of November and have surgery scheduled for June 4th. Insurance has different requirements you must reach before you can have the surgery. I have a transplant, it will be 4 years in August. How far are you from getting a transplant? Good luck to you on your journey.
  21. This pre-op diet is killer!! I started it 2 days earlier than I was suppose to, looking back, I'm not sure why I did that. Four protein shakes a day and raw carrots and broccoli. The 2nd day was the hardest, I'm used to my grumbling stomach now. June 4th cannot come quick enough!

    June 4th for me!

I'm excited and ready. Not ready for the 2 week pre-op diet, but oh well.
  23. I'm still in the evaluation stages of getting lap band, so far, everyone has said I'm a good candidate. One thing that I'm not sure about is having to take all of my meds as liquid or chewable. I have a kidney transplant (8/04) and take a handful of meds morning and night. I'm not even sure if they have liquid forms of my transplant meds. Anyone else out there with a transplant? Jill
