Lap Band Journey Came to Screeching Halt Today!
azchick replied to singledad167's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
PB, Find a new doc!!! This dr sounds like he wants to string you along for more $$$. Afterall, when you lose your weight and don't have any bad health issues, you won't need him much will you?? I have even heard of dr's putting their patients on phentermine instead of referring for wls, which I think is outrageous! That's a heart attack waiting to happen! Best of luck to you! Keep us posted! -
I am a little confused about this stuck thing. When foods get's stuck is it in your esophagus and why when the band is around the top of your stomach???:cursing: I know how to avoid it and it doesn't happen to me very often, actualy not at all until my 2nd fill recently.

Congratulations Indiogirl.!!! Your hard work has paid off!! You are beautiful! Bask in your glow!!
-
Thank you! I will read it. Have a great night.

I am just curious, at how many days or weeks does everyone's fills kick in? Can it be different every time? Why does it take weeks sometime to feel a fill? Does it take that long for the saline to go through the tube?
-
Hi Saddie, The port is stitched to your abdomen muscle. Did you do something that caused it to move? Ouch! Yes, you need to breathe freely. I think that I heard that sometimes they do have to go in and fix ports but that it isn't a big deal. It is another surgery though. I would contact your Dr. asap and get into have it checked out. Good luck to you!
-
Mollymolly, Can you really tell them how much to fill your band with? My Dr. told me how much he put in for the first fill but he wouldn't tell me on the 2nd just that he put alot more in than the first time!
-
Hi all, I had my 2nd fill last Thursday late afternoon. I have no idea how much the doc put in the band but he said he put a lot more than the first which was 1.5 cc's. I felt fine until today, I have had a few dizzy spells. They were strong enough for me to have to sit down and wait them out for awhile. Has anyone else experienced this after a fill? I definetly feel a little more restriction but I am eating ok. Any insight on this would be appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone!!
-
I am getting my second fill tomorrow. Does it get better from here on out because I don't feel like the first one did much of anything? Please let me know how people did with their 2nd versus their 1rst.
-
Thank you Kat, you have given me hope!!!!
-
I live in the northwest valley (Glendale) You have done great with your weight loss! Have fun in Mesa!
-
Good for you!!! I get my 2nd fill tomorrow and really hope it gives me some restriction. Other than my scar I don't feel like anything was done!
-
Did anyone feel any restriction with there first fill? I had 1.5 cc's in a ap band and I feel no difference at all. They want me to wait 2 weeks for another fill. That makes no sense to me.... I feel discouraged and mad because they won't let me make another appointment for at least 2 weeks. The fill was 9 days ago. I am self pay and I feel like I should have some kind of say in this. Has anyone else gone through this with their dr???
-
Wow! That is a long time to wait. Your weight loss is very good so far! I gained 3 lbs between my post op visit and my first fill and my dr said "yep, it's time for a fill." I agree that it is important that we need to know how to eat correctly with the band but, didn't you go through a nutrition class prior to surgery? I am self-pay so if my dr told me no fill I would be pretty upset. Don't get too discouraged though, you have lost a lot of weight and so when you do get your first fill, you will really be on your way!! :rolleyes2:

:redface:My doc told me that chronic overeating will stretch the pouch. I overate one time and I felt so sick that I will never do that again. If you can only eat 1 cup of food, I would say you are doing good. I usually eat 1 1/2 cups of food and I am still hungry. I have only had 1 fill 1.5 cc's in my ab band. My fill was on 4/3 and I am just now starting to feel a tiny little bit of restriction. I can't wait to get my next fill.
-
:smile2:I think this just takes practice. Learning how to eat the right way. I don't have the problem with the snacking but I know that I am eating more then the 1 1/2 cups of food at meal times. I am just taking it day by day and trying really hard not to beat myselft up. Try to distract your self with a hobby or something so it will keep your mind off eating snacks. Wow, if you took a walk everytime you wanted to snack wouldn't that be great! Drink a lot of water and if you do need to snack eat healthy snacks and stay away from chips/cookies and such. Best of luck to you and your weightloss journey!!

Thanks for your replies! I too wouldn't think I had this band if it were not for the scar on my tummy.. I will hang in there. I emailed my dr to see if he would see me sooner. I'll keep my fingers crossed!!

Does anyone know if you can cause your band to slip by just overeating once? What does it cause to do that? I ate some bread and feel so bloated!

question about band sizes
azchick replied to jcolgrove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told I also have an ap which is about comparable to 10cc band. My 1rst fill was only 1.5cc's 5 days ago and I don't feel any restriction at all. My doc says to give a fill about 2 weeks. I don't understand the sizes of these bands either, I just know that I was told I had the new band. Good luck to you! -
Hi all! I had my first fill yesterday. 1.5cc's in an ab (I think) which is equivilant to a 10cc band. I did liquids for 24 hours and had 4oz salmon and 6 oz green beans. Just after I started eating I got these strange pains in my left shoulder. Is that normal and what does it mean?? I also waited an hour after to drink water which was hard to do. I didn't feel hungry for several hours but now I am rumbly in my tummy. Ate a peice of low fat string cheese and got a little gassy. Is this all normal? Is this my new bandster life? My doc gave me a list of lot's of no no foods: any bread/pasta/popcorn/granola bars/tortillas. WOW!!! He said he had done so many fixes with slipped bands recently that he wants all patients to just stay away from these things. Did it take a while to figure out what foods your body would tolerate? This is a learning expierence everyday! Best of luck to everyone! Peace

I am so excited that I get my first fill tomorrw!! How much restriction is there between ban:rolleyes2:ster hell and a first fill? I think I am eating about half of what I used to. I know everyone is different but I am hoping that I will have some better restriction then I do now. I have no idea how much my surgeon will put in my band, and I guess he will ask questions about how much I am eating to figure that out. Is that how they decide?? Thanks for any help!

My doc's hand out at my first fill today says this: KNOW THAT A FILL MAY NOT FEEL LIKE IT IS HAVING ANY EFFECT FOR 2 WEEKS. THIS IS YOUR BRAIN CATCHING UP WITH YOUR STOMACH. SO, GIVE A FILL AT LEAST 2 WEEKS TO SEE HOW WELL IT IS DOING. Wow, my brain must be bigger than I thought it was if it takes that long to catch up to my stomach!!!!LOL!!!!! I had 1.5cc's in my first fill, does anyone know if that is about the norm?

1st Fill Today - Hate being back on 2-Day Liquid & 2-Day Smooth foods!!!
azchick replied to sakalmus's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have my first fill tommorrow. Are the liquids filling you up? Maybe not if you want to knaw your arm off!!! You are lucky that you get to go back every 2 wks. I think my dr only fills once every month. Did you feel any different after your fill? Hang in there on the liquids. Thank God it's only a few days and not weeks like right after surgery... :huh2: -
how have people handled the negativity from others towards the lap band?
azchick replied to marineliebe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was so excited that I told everyone! Sometimes I notice people that I work with checking me out or they will ask how I am doing. I haven't had anything negative said to my face. Who knows what people say behind my back. I really don't care. We have chosen to take our health in our own hands. I believe that most of us are doing this for health reasons and the looking great part of it is a wonderful bonus!! I think people either have never had a weight problem or they are jealous. You have made a decesion to make yourself healthy & happy. Be happy and ignore or stay away from negative people.
