Hello from east TN - insurance requirements
The Fireman replied to excarolinagirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I also have BCBS of TN through my employer (a large company in Kingsport)and was required to have the 6 mo. weight loss program with my PCP,but was not required to have the 10% weight loss.In my case that would have been 32 pounds. If I could lose that much I would not have needed the surgery.I was banded in Jan.2008 and have lost 62 pounds and feel good.have 6.5cc in a 14 cc band and getting very close to where I need to be with my restriction.Good luck with your weight loss plans. -
I have BCBS of Tennessee through my employer. We re really self insured but BCBS just administers the plan.I was not required to lose 10%,but i was required to have a 6 month Dr. assisted weight loss program.I finished in Sept of 2007 and was approved in Nov.and had my surgery in Jan.2008.I have lost 63 pounds since Jan.21 and seem to be doing great.

drink a few sips of warm diet soda and DO NOT BURP.let the pressure force the plug through the stoma.

Had mine on Jan. 21 2008 by April I was off my diabetes medication Was 323 and have lost 70 pounds now being evaluated to see if I can get off my blood pressure medicine. There is nothing I can compare this with when my legs dont hurt all the time.

I've never understood why some doctors require a weight loss before surgery. If I was able to do that I wouldnt need the surgery. My surgeon did not require this.

Who has the labpand AP 14CC Band?
The Fireman replied to armywife4life's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have the same band you do .I eat pretty much anything I want except a whole lot less than I used to .I have 6 cc in mine I started to feel some real restriction after I got 4cc in.I also had a 10 cc band but it made my stomach swell and seal it off and I returned to surgery after 7 days to take it off and reinstall a 14cc one. -
i gave in and weighed myself LOL..
The Fireman replied to armywife4life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Long Term Effects
The Fireman replied to ShrinkyDink's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Jan 21 and have lost 61 pounds.Ive never been told not to drink sodas but, just common sense should tell you to only drink diet drinks. My wife thought that I would have to give up beer, but the surgeon said that it was OK to have a few beers fron time to time as long as they were light beer with only 105 calories and 5g.of carbs.Went to the doctor on Wednesday and had lost anorher 9 pounds in 6 weeks Dr. said I was right on schedule with what he would expect. So,If im still losing then I'm not doing it wrong. -
Probably different for everyone.I have 6 in a 14cc. and I have a lot of restriction.just went to 6 from5.5 on wednesday
-
I've had that happen a few times.I know you know not to drink when you eat but, when something gets stuck, stand upright and take a small drink of warm carbonated soft drink and do burp and let the pressure push the obstruction through the stoma.

Help, I can't control myself!
The Fireman replied to crazycatlady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
May 8 to July 18 im guessing that you only have a very small amount in your band.I did the same thing.I didnt have much restriction until I got about 4cc.in my band.I promise you will eventually get all the restriction you can handle. -

Age really doesnt have a lot to do with it.Im 59 and had my band on Jan.21 2008 and have lost 65 pounds and doing great.I have 6 cc. in a 14 cc.Just had .5cc. wednesday. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose but weight. -
new band and port pain
The Fireman replied to maxzoe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine still does that once in a while when I turn a certain way,but aftr 6 month its getting better. -
I had one that was too tight even before the put anything in it.They put in a 10cc band and it caused me to swell and seal off.I had it on Jan21 2008 and stayed that way until the 27th when they finally got worried and carried me back to surgery and took it out and put in a 14cc band.Every thing has been OK ever since.
-
dont know what you mean 'wont tell you"its my band and my body and my money that pays the bill and he will damn well tell anything I want to know. You just havent put it to him just right.
-
I had them for a week after I came home.Mine was caused by the 10cc band that they used was too small and bruised my stomach causinf it to swell out over the band and stop it up.I couldn even drink water without getting the hiccups. After taking steroids for the swelling for 5days and not getting any better they went back to surgery and took out the 10 cc and put in a 14cc.Had mine on Jan 21 and have had 2 x 2 cc fills.and have lost 50lbs.including 12 pounds on pre-op diet.
-
Try a couple of sips of warm soft drink and try not to burp and let the gas pressure push it through.
-
My doctor dosen't have me on a pre-op diet...
The Fireman replied to love777pink's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 2 week full liquid diet pre-op.Not really necessary but a good Idea anyway. It just sort of gets you use to what its going to ne like for about 3 or 4 weeks after. -
Anyone not told kids about their lapband
The Fireman replied to angelface's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Didnt really think that it was any of their business.the oldest is 40 and the youngest is 26.The youngest is an RN,BSN and she has been very helpful with a lot of peofessional advise that otherwise I would have had to pay for. -
Sad - 3rd Fill - No Restriction - 0 LBS in 8 Wks!
The Fireman replied to lindseyann2u's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I dont understand why your port was so hard to find.Mine is behind the largest of the five incisions I have on my stomach. Also my fills are done by the surgeon that put in my band, not some other person.I was banded on Jan 27 and had my first fill on March 4 (2cc in a 14 cc band)the only way i lose weight is to go on full liquids for 4 or 5 days at a time and I'll lose 4 or 5 pounds.I feel no restriction at all.I have lost 40 pounds though from pre-op until now.Go back on April 4 for a second fill.I hope to lose another 10 before then -
Started seeing PCP on April 1 2007 to satisfy ins.co.6 Month physician assisted weight loss program.Went to siminar on Aug 20.Saw surgeon on Nov.26 .Saw shrink in late November and received ins approvial on Dec 27.Had pre-op visit in Jan 11 and surgery on Jan 21
