The Fireman replied to elgrad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was Banded on Jan.21,2008 and taken off my actos and amaryl in march after only a 30 pound loss.Im now 13 months and 95 pounds total loss and am now off my blood pressure and lipid medicines.I now do not take any prescription medicine and its great. -
Depends on whether you have a private or simi-private room:biggrin:

No more favorite foods?
The Fireman replied to Oceannites's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still eat subway (turkey and ham on wheat toasted) except now I can eat only half of a 6 inch, where before the band I could eat a whole foot long and do it really fast.If Jared Fogle can lose that much weight on subways then it must be ok.My surgeon thinks he slipped in a little surgery that he is not telling about. -

Im also amased sometimes at how deep it is.It doesnt look that deep just looking at it. -
Had my surgery in Tyler,Texas.Dr.only charged 4,300,but hospital charged 39,000 and would have been only 15,000 if I had not had to be banded twice (first band was too small (10cc) and had to replace it with a 14cc)I was out of pocket about 2,700.Every cent has been worth it.Im one year out and 80 pounds lighter and still losing.

Spent 1st night in the emergency room
The Fireman replied to volcano lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine on a Mon.and Thurs I was back in ER.I had been unable to even keep water down.My daughter is an RN and was worried about dehydration.to make a long story short,on Sun.they took me back to surgery and removed the 10cc. band and put in a 14cc.Dr. said I was borderline in being big enough for the 14cc. and they decided to go with the 10cc.That was the wrong one.been good ever since.with no pain what-so-ever. -
If you are in Longview try Dr. Jason Suites if you want to stay local.I used Dr. Robert McKinney at Trinity Mother Francis Clinic in Tyler. He' top notch. Was banded on Jan.21,2008 and have lost 80 pounds as of Nov.21.

I drink beer.A 12 light beer has 105 calories and 5g. carbs. If I have 4 beers,I just dont have that hamburger that I had planned to have.My wife had High hopes that this surgery would make me have to stop beer drinking and mentioned it in front of the Dr. and he said, "hell, why would he want to do that".Kinda burst her bubble.

Thanks ladies I appreciate all the tips im getting.I suppose rejection is worse than losing the money.I mentioned that the last time we had sex was about 5 months ago and at that time she asked me to wear a condom.I said why?I had not been with anyone else and she had a hysterectomy 17 years ago.She said "so you dont get me dirty" Now figure this after 29 years.By the way her new "guy",its a good thing she decided to go as a guy, because a sa girl she would be one ugly B@#$H.

I know what all you are saying is true but, divorce does not seem to be an option as Im 2 or 3 years from retirement. That means that half of my 401K and half of my retirement would go to her,not to mention my house and everything else that has taken a lifetime to accumulate, not to mention half of all that I inheirited including my oil and gas royalties.I should have also recognized a red flag when she opened her own checking account and started putting her pay check in it,but still feels free to use the joint account instead of spending any of hers.I just feel so helpless and companionship(even if not sexual)with another female would beat what I have now which appears to be nearly nothing.by the way,I have confronted her and she says she loves me.I havent told her that in a long time because that is not a term that I throw around casually.

excess weighrt must be hard on a police officer, just like it is on a 325 pound firefighter.Having to get new bunker gear yearly because I kept getting bigger and bigger was all it took to realize i need to lose weight.Im now down 70 pounds in eight months and doing much better. If you are able to pull this off you will not be sorry.best of luck to you on your journey.I would start by going to a siminar and let the surgeons staff guide you through the process with the insurance company. If you have to self pay they can also give you info on financing if you need it.

Retaking my psych eval... :/
The Fireman replied to kaytiebugs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was cautioned about that when I took mine. The Psychologist told me it would make me look like " one messed up person"He suggested that I take a plain piece of paper and frame the line of questions that I was working on and not move it until I was ready to move to the next column of questions. -
