lo2us, I am still kinda new at this but I have not had any regrets so far. I will have to admit I did some struggleing through the pre-op dieting, a little through post-op dieting too. But the encouragement I got on here on a daily basis got me through it. I really don't know if I could have made it without this "family." Dr. Keilin said this will be the hardest two weeks because I will have no restriction or swelling, I am feeling very well, and I can see where she is comming from. I will have to depend on self-dicipline to keep me from over eating. Lord help me! This has to be a personal decision. Your eating habits change drastically when you get in to this. At least mine have. But I had to do something. I needed a long term tool to HELP me lose weight and keep it off. My health and well being depends on it. So for me it wasn't a hard decision. I can lose weight short-term when I put my mind to it, but I can't stay with it. I have done it so many times. Only to gain it back and some. My husband and I enjoy going places together, and my health and stamina was getting in the way of that. I realized he was doing more and more for me. Even letting me out at every door and picking me up at he same door so I didn't have to walk, trying to save my knees for sight seeing, shopping, ect. The list goes on and on. I won't bore you with all that. Even though I am only a little 2 over out weeks from surgery, I have to believe this was the right thing for me to do. I wish you all the luck. I have a friend that went online to cosmeticsurgery.com for financing and got it. I believe that was the sight, I can check with her to be sure. Self pay people get a break also. It would be about like paying for a new car, maybe less. About 16,000 I think. PS can helpyou with that info. Keep us posted.

Hi Janine. Welcome to Bandland. Was your surgery an open surgery or laproscopic? The more you move and walk, the better. Walk as often as possible. It is nice that you will have a good break for recovery. Don't do any lifting, but otherwise move about a lot. A heating pad does wonders too. Hope your recovery is quick. Take care.

Medge, they may not delay you if it isn't severe. Drink plenty of water this weekend. They may want you to come in again and give them another sample. Call them early mon. a.m. to see what you have to do. Keep us posted. Good Luck.

Oh, I am from Hope, AR

CONGRATS, hopefulchurch!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep walking as much as possible every day, and don't forget your heating pad. I agree about PS. They have been very nice. What I really like is if you have questions, they don't brush you off. They explain everything and take their time doing it. Not in a rush to get rid of you. Do not hesitate to call if you feel the need. Take care and keep moving. Keep us posted.

Hi lo2us, how are you. I am 2 weeks and 2 days post-op and feel great. 5 more days and I can have soft foods. Woohoo. My check-up went fine, I have to go back in 2 weeks, although I am not sure why. Hope I get a fill but I thought I might have to wait until the 6 wk. mark. Guess i better ask about that. Stay with us. Have a good weekend!

Mrs. Husker, so sorry about the cold. Coughing? That has to suck! Call your doc and see what he might give you for some relief. Take care.
-
Mrs. Husker, usually the walking and movement helps get rid of the gas. I guess it is stirring yours up! It will still help. I wonder if you posted your mailing address how many boxes of grits you would get??I know I would send you a box! Take care and keep moving.

Good morning. Happy Banding day to whoever is getting banded today! I imagine there is someone being banded every Wed. and Fri. So welcome to Bandland ! March seemed to be a huge banding month. The March banding thread is huge. Have a good day.

Hello Sara Mos. I am 2 weeks post-op. I feel great. I had discomfort with the air for a few days but this support group on here told me exactly what helped and that was walk, walk, walk, and move around as much as possible, also use a heating pad. I did and it was a tremendous help. I got out and walked at night even to move that air around and help dissipate it. My anethesist also told me to stay on the move. Your drs. team will probably advise you too. I have had several surgeries and this had to be the easiest. Knowing what to expect and being prepared with things when you return home will be a plus. Follow the rules of the band that your surgeon gives you and your results will be good. Think positive. Keep us posted. Good luck

Hi Glogirl. I just returned from my post-op (2 wk.) check-up. They told me this would be the hardest time, from now until I get a fill. I was cautioned to still not exceed 1/2 cup of food per meal. Of course I have been on liquids for two weeks, now I can have purees, pudding, hot cereals, pudding, yogurt, cream soups without thinning them ect. So it is not far from liquids for another week. Whew! Next week I can have soft veggies, tuna and chicken salad(creamy consistency). Although I can have soft scrambled egg this week. I do not feel full, nor unconfortable. Haven't since surgery either. She said this period of time would be hard because all swelling would be gone and there would be no restriction. Nothing to keep me from feeling hungary. So I guess I will have to depend on will power, that's scary. If I had that I wouldn't be here in the first place! haha. I will be glad to get my fill too.

Hi Paula S. I am 2 weeks out from surgery. Had my first scrambled egg and had some oatmeal this a.m. and yes, it was sooooooooo good. No food for 4 weeks makes anything tast great! I guess we all appreciate the flavor when we finally get something. On my way to my post-op check up right now. Gotta go. Later........

momlambert, so sorry to hear about your father. Do lots of walking, and sleep with a heating pad. It helps during awake hours and sleep times. The walking helped me, even with the soreness. Part of your feeling bad is the anesthesia. The other is your emotional state. I didn't feel great but not too bad either by the 3rd day. Still sore, but seemed like it helped by moving about. I was the sorest after laying or sleeping, then having to get up. You may get tired going to see your dad but I think you are going to be exhausted by staying home worrying about your family situation. If you go, explain that you aren't feeling well and don't stay too long. Just listen to your body, it will help you make the right decision. Once again, so sorry about your dad. Please keep us posted.

I don't know how to move your post, but I have read where some people go back to liquids and the band will move back up . Now, that could be an instance where the band may not have slipped to far, so it may depend on the severity of the slippage. Your doctor should have advised you more about it. I would call them and ask more details. Hang in there with the dieting. You have done so well, I wouldn't want to see you lose any ground.

Hello hopefulchurch, and WELCOME to bandland!! Yes, you are on the T-Town link. We have all had or are going to have surgery with PS. I too had a hard time with the liquid diet, although you may have a salad (green), with ff dressing in the place of one Sfast a day. But if your surgery is day after tomorrow, you have it licked now. I wanted my liver to shrink before surgery, so I stuck to the diet. But....not without the support that I got here. Just ask LisaG, she gave me a support boost practically daily! I don't think I could have made it through without her support and others on here. I sincerely mean that. As a matter of fact the two weeks after sugery wasn't a picnic but much better than pre-op. I love soup and I thinned it down and had it twice a day. I started off my day with coffee, then a little later had sf hot chocolate. Much better variety than pre-op. Still the support I had from here and all the March bandsters was wonderful. I also attended the support meeting in Texarkana. I have been banded two weeks today. I feel great. You are right about finding support from people that are going down the same path, others are nice and try to be understanding, but it isn't like having someone that has "been there, done that." I am still new at this but I have done tons of research before my surgery and will be glad to help with any questions you may have. Take care and keep us posted.

How soon after being banded can you start normal activities?
Sugarbear replied to sjms771's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't want to herniate any incision, I would be careful about lifting. But ask your surgeon, they will know what the safest thing for you is. Otherwise, unless you are sick for some reason, you should be able to carry on as usual a couple days after surgery. I was back to my usual routine the next morning. I was sore but not as to hold me back from anything. I am 2 weeks post-op today. I feel great. I am also off the liquid only post-op diet today. WOOHOO!! -
Did you recieve a booklet that was for post-op? I got two. They look alike. One is for post-op. The front cover has a womans picture and it says "I can succeed." They actually look just alike. I got one post op and the other in my pre op info folder. The booklet is by "Inamed Health," the company that makes the band. That might really scare ya, I am sitting here reading this sentence..Your stomach can only hold 1/4 cup of food ( or 2 oz.)at one time. Eat 3 small meals. It is page 2 of the booklet. I am assuming they are talking about right after surgery. It also says it is very important the first few weeks to avoid putting pressure on the new stomach above the band. If you have an Inamed Band your doctor's office will have this booklet. It is very informative. But as always follow your doctors orders to take care of the band. I am still post-op liquids. But not after Wed. I get mushies, purees, pudding, yogurt, hot cereals, ect. I am looking forward to it too. Good Luck.

1/2 cup is total. That is why they want you to start with protein and go from there. Your pouch isn't any larger than than. You don't want to dialate (stretch) it. My drs. office has a nutritionist that tells you all that stuff and then send us home with written info galore.

YEA!!!!!!!!!! There it is! Thanks Lisa! I don't know what happened the first time but I went back and did it again, dwalla! It is there now.
-
Pooey....No ticker. I saw it on my signature but it didn't come up on that post. Was I supposed to do something to confirm it at my edit sig window? hmmmmm
-
Lisa, I am glad you got your fill!! How does it feel? Is this your second? When I went to the support meeting there was a lady there that had lost all her weight on two fills! I don't know if you go to those are not. I am going to go for a few and see how it goes. I thought it might do me good to be around others in the same boat. Thanks for the ticker directions. I guess I will see how it works when I post this to you. When you got off your liquid diet, did you go through the two week day of surgery or TO it? My surgery will be 2 weeks ago wed. I am thinking Cream of wheat or a soft scrambled egg for wed. breakfast. I love soup but I am getting a little tired of it. I will still have it but not twice a day. Let me know how your restriction is.

Hello all. Hope all our new bandsters are doing good. I am now 12 days post-op. Feeling good. I still have a "bloated" feeling especially in the evening. I feel like I swell up high in my abdomen in the evening and night time. Odd? But it is better than when I started out. Over all I feel good. I have two more days on liquids. Of course the next stage isn't too far from liquids but I am looking forward to hot cereals, soft scrambled egg, yogurt, and of course I can still have my soups. I will like I am eating a full meal deal. I am going to set up a ticker when ever i can figure out how to get it over here. I can make it but haven't figured out how to transfer it from there to here. haha. Sorry I am so dumb when it comes to those things. I am sure it is easy but i just haven't ever done it. Wonder who is being banded this week? If you are reading this we want to welcome you to BANDLAND!!
-
I wonder if someone would walk me through the ticker thing. I can make the ticker but don't know how to get it over here. Sorry for the dumbness.

I also had hernia repair along with my band. The doc said I might be a little more sore than just being banded, but I am 11 days post-op and doing good. Still on liquid diet, until wed. What kind of surgery did you wake up during? That is a scary thought.
