  1. Sometimes it's because you want to enjoy the things that other people are enjoying, things that you miss from your before life. And sometimes I can eat something today without a problem, and have an entirely different experience the following day with the same food. It even depends on how tight my clothing is or when I last had a bowel movement. It's a tricky situation to navigate. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. I wish that I had known that there was a newer surgery that would be a better fit for me (gastric sleeve) It was a brand new procedure and I wouldn't consider it at the time. Four years and 145 pounds later, I still live with the uncertainty of projectile vomiting, food getting stuck, and all the usual lap band related stuff. Often it is my own fault-operator error. My husband is six months post op gastric sleeve and he has had a much less complicated process and is 9 pounds from goal weight. However, in spite of the inconveniences, I have still had success with the band and hope that I can continue this journey in a healthier body that I achieved as a result of the weight loss. 5. 4 years out and I occasionally have to make that bathroom run. Sometimes, if it's available right away, hot coffee will help to get things unstuck. Sometimes it is sitting up ramrod straight and putting my arms over my head. I have also noticed that if I am at all constipated, I have more difficulty getting the food to go down. You'd think after 4 years I'd be past this, but every once in a while...... Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    1 week after band

Is you liquid high Protein? It's so important for this journey, especially during the liquid phase. Please make sure you discuss this with your doc, and the nutritionist if one is available. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

First night banded... 14 hours in.

Glad you're feeling better today. Walking is definitely the best thing you can do for the gas. The challenges are not insurmountable, and the results can make it all worthwhile. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

3 days in... Lots of confusion. Need support!

Please don't push it. It's ok to mourn the loss of a lifetime of eating habits that brought you here in the first place. The process is slow, but you will get to the point where you can occasionally eat some of the things that you used to enjoy. When that time comes that you can expand your food selections, remember to cut the food into small pieces, eat slowly, avoid liquids before and after....failure to follow the rules can cause damage to your band. Just make sure that the liquid that you are using is high in Protein. This will help to curb your feeling of hunger. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Tender port after eating

Is you port close to where your waistband falls on your clothing? I have found that normal belly expansion while eating sometimes causes my port to rub making it feel a bit sore. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Lap band port re adjusted

So sorry to hear that. I do hope that the problems resolved once it is healed. The lap band is not for everyone. And losing weight can still be a struggle because it is just a tool, it's not a cure. Don't be too hard on yourself and try not to get discouraged. Sometimes it is simple changes that make the greatest difference. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  12. I have also found that very small amounts can make or break me. For me, it is extremely important to adhere to a liquid diet for 24 hrs prior and 48 hrs post fill if I want to minimize the chance of a problem. I also know that taking antihistamines effects the tightness of my band, so I avoid those as well for that time period. I hope you find your perfect spot. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  14. As for portion size, that changes daily for me. Things that I ate yesterday won't necessarily sit well with me the next. So, I start with Protein first and try to balance what I eat , using shakes or Soups where needed. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Lap band port re adjusted

First of all, I'm sorry to hear that you are having port problems . I hope all goes well on Wednesday. While I did not have the difficulty that you describe, I did have my port reanchored following a tummy tuck and did experience some tenderness and discomfort for a while. Even now, if my clothing rubs against the spot in just the wrong way, it can be painful, so I have to choose my clothing wisely. But it's not nearly as bad as what you are describing. I hope the surgery does the trick for you. Best of luck on your continues WL journey. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Excess Skin

After trying many different things and consulting several doctors about laser procedures, etc, it all came around to the same answer-tummy tuck. After 2 years of struggling with the excess skin which created a nasty, flapping pouch, I went ahead with the surgery. The results are amazing. It completely transformed the way my clothing fit, my self image improved, and it helped me to stay on track with my weight loss. Although I wish there had been a less invasive way, for me, it was the only way. I hope someone else can give you other options. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  18. Sometimes, what you are feeling is not actual hunger. Trying to learn the difference between hunger and wanting something to eat is something that many people struggle with. Try having a glass of Water, or a cup of tea. If you still feel that you need to eat something, perhaps a teaspoon of natural Peanut Butter helps, and it's good for Protein. Finding what works for you can be frustrating but keep working it. The outcome will be worth it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    I Hate my Lap Band

I have has a lapband since 2012, and yes, I've had my challenges. Being the last person at the table to finish a meal, not chewing carefully when I am out to dinner because I am talking and eating at the same time. But I now weigh in at 138 down from 290, so for me, it has been worthwhile. Once in a while, I go back to my post surgery roots and spend 2 weeks on Protein drinks and soups. This gives my body a rest, provides me with sufficient protein, and sort of re-sets my resolve. I hope you have better luck this time around. Just remember, slow and steady.
