Help! I'm not liking too many of the protein drinks. The Champion Whey is ok, but don't love it. The isopure water sucks! Has anyone tried the New Whey Bullets? I'm only 1 day post op, but having trouble getting in my protein. I'm actually not hungry at all. I would welcome any tasty protein supplement suggestions. Thx.

HARLEY! Even better......I had a big fat juicy Rib Eye! A baked Potatoe with butter and sour cream. Then, my husband said we should go for my favorite dessert, a hot fudge sundae, but I resisted that. HAHAHHAHHA Today I'm eating light. Protein shakes and broth for me. EEEEK! I'm very ready though, but still very scared!

Harley, (I'll probably be bombarding you with questions) What about hair loss, etc... Some say they can lose their hair by losing so much weight, but I though with lap because you lose it slower you don't tend to have the hair loss. What are your thoughts on this?
-
ML, I'm sure I'll be joining you at next month's meeting! Looking forward to it.
-
Harley! I am definitely starting with "I'm going to succeed" I'm going to do everything humanly possible to make sure of that. I am looking forward to a new ME! Thanks for the inspiration!

WOW! That's fantastic!! I would love to lose 90-95 lbs. Dr. T. told me to expect more like 50% of what I am overweight. Being that I'm about 250, I guess that means I'm about 100-110 lbs overweight, and that means I should lose about 50-60 lbs. He says 100 lbs is not the norm for lapband. What are your thoughts on this? I'm sure he knows, he's the Doc!, Just wondering what others think. I know everyone is different. I really hope I lose closer to 70-80. I'm banking on this really helping my comorbidities like my asthma alot. If I can just lose enough to get off some of these meds, I'll be so happy. I'm just not sure if 50lbs is going to do it. I'm hopeful that it will be though. I see some of the girls on the other forums losing 100-150. Man, that would be awesome! LOL! I'm just going to do the best I can to get as healthy as possible. You've done fantastic! You should be soooo proud! One discouraging thing to me, is that there really aren't that many people in here from WLSC. Out of all the surgeries he has done. Where the heck is everyone?

Harley, That's AWESOME! How much weight have you lost all together? Have you been able to keep it off? I hear you can tend to gain some back? Is it really difficult keeping it off without the fills? My dad had lap band in 2006, and has lost 180 lbs. He said he has gained a little back, but not much. I have read so many things, I'm scared to death of failing after all of this. Any tips on how to succeed and keep the weight off after this many years?

Hi again, Did you have to do a pre op diet. I've heard many have to, but I have not been told to do anything like that.

I was searching on the forums on how to get rid of the pain. I haven't had my surgery yet, it's Sept 9, but I heard the gas pains are the worst. I thought maybe I could prepare myself, and I came upon your post. Have you gotten any relief, or any other tips. I hope you're feeling better soon. BTW, I'm from CT too. I grew up in E. Hartford, and my whole family stills lives there. Just came back a couple weeks ago. I live in VA now. I wish you the best of luck with your lap journey.

ML, I did hear the gas pains are really bad. UGH! I had a polyp removed from my uterus last year and had that gas pain as well. It seemed to last several days, and was brutal. I'm sure everything will go fine. Thanks for all the info! Where in VA are you? I'm in Chesapeake. Do you go to the support meetings? It's quite a hall for me to go, but I'm sure I will to begin with, and then may try to find one over this side of the water. Not sure yet.

ML, That's awesome! So you can do protein shakes. That is great! I hear the taste of them is terrible, but there is one that I really really like. It's Ultramet chocolate. It's very high in protein, and low in sugar and carbs. Do you know if you can drink any shake, or does it have to specifically be the shake they give you. I hear a lot of them taste terrible. Also, did you have alot of pain/gas after the surgery? How long did it take? How did you feel after? Were you scared. I'm petrafied. I'm afraid I'm never going to wake up. LOL I know that's crazy! Thanks for responding!

Hi Hampton Roads gals and guys. My surgery is September 9th. I just got my pre surgery package in the mail. I was told I don't have to do the pre op diet, which is good being that I'm going on a cruise and don't come back till a week before my surgery. Dr. T just said don't overdo it. Does this sound right? Has anyone done the pre op. Also, the post op liquid diet. Is it completely clear liquids, or does it include protein shakes, etc... I've read that some are on clear liquids. I haven't done my food class yet, it's next week, just I was just curious. Also, I would love to hear some success stories from WLSC. I hear a lot of your success can depend on the Dr., fills, etc... as well as your commitment. Harley, I know that you've been banded for several years. How are things going for you. Any tips from those of you that have been through the journey? I know I'll be on here posting tons of questions. I read a lot on the forums, but so many say different things. It's great to chat with you fellow VA bandsters.

I too am doing this for my health. And... if I look better, even better! I have sleep apnea, and very severe asthma, and high cholesterol. I wasn't born with asthma, just got it as I got so overweight. If I can improve my asthma, and overall health, This will all be worth it for me. My dad had lap band surgery two years ago, and has lost 170 lbs. His quality of life has improved so much, it's amazing. He's like a different person, so active, more energy, etc... Here's boost of positivity for you all to hear. We are all going to do great. Good luck to everyone!!

Hi Girls, I too am being banding in September. SLA we are being banded the same day. WOO HOO! 9/11, the beginning of a new life for me! I'm petrafied too, now that it's all a reality.
-
I too have hypothyroid. Definitely get that checked out. It makes a difference, and can definitely make a diff in your weight loss.
-
Harley, you've been banded for some time now. Weren't you Dr. T's first patient. I remember that. How is it going for you?? Do you love it? I'm still really worried about several years from now, and what the band does then. As far as corroding, etc... They really don't have any long term results as far as stuff like that goes. Have you heard anything about that. It would really suck to have this and 10-15 years later, have to get it removed for problems, etc... I would love to know anyone's thoughts on this subject. Thx. Hi, I talked with you several months back. I think when I was fighting the insurance battle. My surgery is 9/11. I can't wait, but scared to death!

Denied in Maryland/BCBS/depressed/what nxt?
luvmy2dogs replied to yiya's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't give up. Be persistent. Keep nagging them, and they will come around. I went through the same thing. Been trying since Feb. I have BCBS of Georgia. I just got my approval last week. They deny hoping you'll just give up. Do you have clinical info proving your sleep apnea, etc... -
Your sister definitely has the problem. Sounds to me like she's jealous of your life, and doesn't really want you to get thin. You might be conpetition for her. :wink2:

This sounds very similar to what happeend to me. I started in February. The first pre cert denied for nutritional eval. This was sent, but was sent to the appeals dept. and not the medical director that was reviewing the pre cert. So, the appeals dept. had the nutritional eval, but nothing else. The pre cert. dept. had everything but the nutritional eval. It was a matter of admin mess up, that took me 4 months to get straight. The other day I got a Dr. to answer the peer to peer line, and he said all that was missing was the nutritional eval. It was sent directly to him and given to the Medical Director doing the review. Within an hour of her receiving it, I had an approval. It was amazing. I was preparing my huge package to do my final appeal, and never needed to continue with it. What a nightmare it was though. Be persistent. Don't stop calling. Do whatever it takes. ML glad to hear you were approved! :-) Good luck on your continued journey. I'm being banded 9/11

WELCOME!!! I too am new, and just starting my journey. I just got my insurance approval Tuesday, and yesterday my surgery date. It's September 11th. I'm scared to death, now that it's come to reality that I am definitely having the surgery. I think I have all the same fears, 1. That I wont wake up and die, 2. That I will fail and gain it all back after all this. 3. That I'll lose all my hair and get malnutritioned. I have so many questions, and it's all freaking me out now. I think I read too many forums. LOL! Also, I'm in VA. Joy, what part of VA are you from? I'm petrafied about all of it. I guess this is normal?? -
Hi, I live in Chesapeake, VA and just got my surgery date today. I'm being banded on September 11th. EEEEK! That's a scary date. Maybe I should change it.
-
Thank you. I'm very happy, scared to death, but excited at the same time. I'm going to be a bandster. :wink2:
