  1. I don't burp, but I get the hiccups all the time now. Especially if I eat to fast.

    It's frustrating when...

I hate when people who know about the surgery and my dietary restriction keep asking me if I want food, or what I can eat.

    Fatigue after surgery

I was exhausted for about the first week post op starting to get more energy the second week. I basically just nested on my couch with blankets, a Water bottle, and my pain pills for the first week. 1 to 2 naps a day.
  4. I actually was able to tolerate steak which made me super happy. Steak was one of the things I was worried I wouldn't be able to tolerate. Going to try meatloaf with ground beef next week.
  5. Tummy issues 2 - Before surgery, I used to be able to "hold" my poo (sorry if TMI) if I was in an inconvenient place (like work or the mall) until I got home. Not anymore. When I gotta go, I gotta go! And I cramp when I have to go. I actually have the exact opposite problem. I barely get any urge to go, if I don't make a conscious effort to go at least once a day I get very backed up.
  6. 6-800 depending on what I've eaten that day. I do most cheeses full-fat. Reduced cottage cheese I like, and I've always used 2% milk. I stick to plan and prioritize Protein, but I will have some less optimal items, like corned beef hash, or have some bread crumbs on my fish. So far I haven't had issues with any food.
  7. I wouldn't worry about it. I was in the hospital for only two days and I left 8-10lbs heavier than when I went in. If you factor in the weight of the removed tissue it was probably a larger gain.
  8. 63lbs down since the start of my pre-op liquids. As my portion sizes are starting to get a little bigger I've cut back to one Protein shake a day.

    It all starts today...

I've had a ton of blood drawn as part of this process of getting cleared for surgery. I actually fainted when I had the pre-op blood drawn.
  10. I would say if your are spending the first 2-3 days in the hospital and they are making you get up and walk around you'll probably be fine on your own. I spent two nights and they had me up and walking around the recovery ward every 2-3 hours. Completely alone when I was at home and had no problems. I was also taking 1-2 naps a day and sleeping for about 10 hours the first few days home so having someone around would have been annoying. This will be different for everyone so I would play it by ear. For me all post-op pain was centered around my large incision, and I had very little nausea or other gastric discomfort.

    TMI: My first BM

Also this, I have a foot stool that has been doing this job, makes everything easier.
  12. This has been my first week losing again after stalling for two weeks. I'm closing in on 50lbs lost since the beginning of my pre-op liquid diet. Adding a second protein shake each day seemed to push me past the stall. I had been getting 55-60 g of protein now I'm 80-90 g my body seems to like the added protein.
  13. @@Tina4heath4ever Yeah, and I just remembered that I missed my second nutritionists appointment and that needed to be rescheduled which also slowed me down a bit.
  14. I started the process in July of last year and surgery took place in March of this year. My insurance company required monthly visits with a nutritionist for 6 months and document weight loss. I also needed to have several consultations to get cleared for surgery. Cardio, pulmonary - which lead to a sleep study, a visit with the surgery centers behavioral psychologist, and also the sign off of the nutritionist and the surgeon.

    Am I crazy?

Never had a problem with liquids, I can drink a 20oz bottle of Water in about 30 minutes now.

    TMI: My first BM

This was me about halfway through week two. I actually ended up giving my self a tear while straining, a ton of blood, and a panicked call to the Nurse at the Surgeon's office. She gave me a list of laxatives and softeners to get. I sent my brother a text which was basically "Leave work, go to the store, buy all of the things on this list that they have, or I will die here on this toilet." Took all day to finally pass and I couldn't believe how much there was, at this point I'ld been on liquids and Protein shakes for almost a month including pre and post op diets, no idea where it came from. My butt hurt for two - three days. Also pay attention to the painkillers they give you, a lot of them make the stool hardening worse. I was on hydromorphone and stopped taking it after all of that happened.
  18. It took me about 4-5 weeks post op to get back to my pre op energy levels.

    Feeling the staples

I had a bump under my big incision for the first few weeks. My APRN said that the doctor sutures the muscle and skin together at the big incision to help prevent a hernia.
  20. I do full fat on everything but Milk, I do 2% milk. I've been drinking 2% for so long I prefer the taste to whole. I also tried turkey bacon when making a quiche and it was not good at all, so just regular bacon for me.
  21. My surgeon/NUT didn't give me any hard restrictions on carbonated beverages. Just the warning that it will very likely cause discomfort. So it's something I'll probably try a few months to a year post surgery, and obviously no regularly sweetened beverages.
  22. Mine was super easy. They did put me under general anesthesia for it. Woke up afterwards no discomfort at all. My first IV and first time being knocked out so helped with anxiety for the surgery.
  23. Surgery for me was about an hour and a half. My surgeon had me on a pre op diet primarily to shrink my liver to make the surgery easier. I did well enough with that and my liver shrank so much he was able to do the surgery without needing to move it. So that was one less incision. I ended up being in observation for about six hours because they didn't have my room ready in recovery. I didn't end up getting out of bed to take my first walk on day one until about midnight, and had to get up again at around 4 am for vitals and to walk again.

A banana is stressing me out?

I've noticed the same thing with liquids and certain foods. I'm about 5 weeks post op and I can comfortably drink a few sips or a regular gulp every few minutes now. Some foods like quiche or anything else very soft and light I can eat about a 1/2 to a full cup of. But denser foods like Salmon or corned beef hash I can still only eat 1/4 to a 1/2 cup in a sitting.
