Told A Co-Worker
rebecca wills replied to kittykatlover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've told people in my life, and I have had very kind positive feed back. My favorite one came from my ex-sister in-law. She said; "you've struggled with you're weight since I've known you." I know how hard you've tried, and I pray that all works out well for you. Good for you! Another person asked me if I met the required weight, for surgery. I explained that it also has to do with family history and co-morbidity. And she said; I was taking a responsible step for my health. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
What is the liquid diet you speak of? My pre op diet has raw veggies and 3 oz of chicken. Everything else is liquids. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Is anyone required to go to therapy weekly by your surgeon?
rebecca wills replied to TanairyVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The doctor wants to see you succeed , your questions and sometimes your answers to questions are very telling to a trained listener. The therapist is there to help you examine why and how you got where you are, to use surgery as your tool to finally get the weight off. Emotional reasons, or bad habit's are two main reasons. But only you know those. We all need to discover that to be honest and succeed by addressing it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I know your feeling this way is very natural. I am twice your age and I know that my whole life I have had a Love Hate relationship with food. And if I heard one more person say to me that "nothing taste as good as thin feels," I gonna scream! Because I've been both, and when I look at my health now, and what my weight has done to me, I just know it's not going to get better only worse. Quality of Life is going to be better, for me today is looking way better. I don't see anyone saying you can't ever have something as long as you recognize what you do have is in controlled amount. Moderation, and enjoy the new lease on Life we have ahead. Everyone I know says they wish they did it sooner. My surgery is this Thursday. 6/30 Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Checking in alone?
rebecca wills replied to Sandy GlueStick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm an in-law and if I knew my daughter in-law was in the hospital having major surgery and nobody said anything I'd be hurt. Family takes care of family, it's not putting out its pulling together. It's what families are for! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Intractable and severe Pain in the Feet ?
rebecca wills replied to Truth&Gutz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did you have your parathyroid checked. Your Calcium being off will cause tingling and burning with numbness. Try taking chewable calcium with a little orange juice and some magnesium citrate an hour before bed. The magnesium has a relaxing effect on muscles and tendons. And the calcium is absorbed as a catalyst with the natural Vitamin C in the juice. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Am I small? and more Fat mentality issues....
rebecca wills replied to pr_pitbullgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 65 lbs about 4 years back in 3 1/2 months. I remember doing what you did in the dressing room. I was an emotional mess. I didn't recognize the reflection. My thoughts were as you describe. After that year I developed a thyroid issue that turned out to be Graves' disease. Needless to say now I'm without a thyroid and gained all the weight back and some. Which is why I'm about to get my sleeve. Psych should be a part of our acceptance of our new identity. So we can come to terms with what's in our reflection. The idea of Loving who we Are on the inside is one thing. But the outside is another thing all together. Not what I expected and needs addressing! Glad you said something.???? You do look wonderful! Congrats! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
rebecca wills replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is scheduled for the 30th, this week I see the surgeon before Surgery. Feeling excited and nervous. My endoscopy was last week and since I have pain in my tummy. They said I have gastritis. Hoping it won't delay things. I'm starting liquids tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
You want to see some interesting info for thyroid patients. Google Graves' disease and the sleeve. There is a connection with ghrelin, inflammation, and leptin. Once the removal of the stomach the auto immune response is halted. They must do research to find a way to nail this down. Without Ghrelin you could possibly cure Graves' disease?.. And obesity! Wouldn't that be an amazing possibility? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Most important:Ghrelin is a 28-amino-acid acylated polypeptide secreted predominantly from X/A-like enteroendocrine cells of the stomach (1, 2). Several lines of evidence implicate ghrelin in growth hormone (GH) release, energy balance, food intake, and long-term regulation of body weight in rodents (3, 4) and humans (5). The ghrelin gene encodes a 117-amino-acid peptide, preproghrelin, for which there is an 82% homology between rat and human (1). Ghrelin is presently regarded as the only known circulating orexigen and exerts antagonistic effects on the leptin-induced decrease in food intake through activation of the hypothalamic neuropeptide Y–Y1 (NPY-Y1) pathway (3, 6). The effects of ghrelin are mediated via a 7-transmembrane G protein–coupled receptor (GPCR) called growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R) (7). This receptor is evolutionarily conserved from puffer fish to humans (8), which suggests that ghrelin may play a fundamental role in organism growth and development. The GHS-R type 1a has been implicated in GH release, and a nonspliced, nonfunctional receptor mRNA variant identified as GHS-R type 1b has recently been identified within a wide variety of tissues including lymphoid organs (9). Hexarelin is a synthetic analogue that binds GHS-R to induce GH secretion from porcine and bovine PBMCs, which suggests that GHS-R ligands may exert some direct effects on the immune system (10). In addition, the wide tissue distribution of GHS-R in the lymphoid system suggests that ghrelin and GHS-R ligands may function as signal modulators among the endocrine, nervous, and immune systems. Inflammatory cytokines released by immune cells have been shown to act on the CNS to control food intake and energy homeostasis (11). Decrease in food intake and anorexia are among the most common symptoms of illness, injury, or inflammation (12). Cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α have been implicated in wasting associated with inflammation (13), chronic low-grade inflammation in aging (14, 15), and atherosclerosis (16). Regulation of inflammatory cytokine production by endogenous factors holds promise in the amelioration of a wide variety of ailments and disease conditions. In the present report, we describe a novel function of ghrelin in the immune system and on proinflammatory cytokine expression by human T cells and mononuclear cells upon cellular activation or leptin exposure. These results have implications in the potential use of ghrelin as a therapeutic target associated with a host of inflammatory diseases. Results Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Long Term Results of Sleeve Gastrectomy
rebecca wills replied to careya123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For many comprehensive bariatric programs running the past 5 years, it really is data based so far on that. But some are doing a good job in follow up as part of the report data. I am in a good program, with an ongoing 5 year follow up. It provides nutrition classes, exercise classes, support groups, as well as meeting with surgeon yearly. So it's there if you look for it. Success is there for the taking, you just have to make the steps to make it work for you. I myself looked for support, it's a struggle I've had all my life and I know it. Wish everyone success! I got a box of pesto tilapia in the frozen fish area, it was a bag of pre seasoned single iced fish that you can take out one at a time and nuke in the microwave. Tastes so fresh and isn't fishy! I also got some ahi tuna that is single wrapped and seared to perfection. You can take out one portion. And thaw it and eat it with some teriyaki sauce and wasabi. Nice no cook option. And again not fishy tasting. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
