Hi guys and gals, Has anyone here had the surgery done robotically? I have been offered that option, but I would have to travel to either Florida or California.

Yea, you're probably right.. I spoke out of place

Honestly at 32, you shouldn't need surgery

How many of you continue the shakes in your diet after many months after surgery?

Who's your Doctor? -
Mine was uncomfortable, but not terribly sinful. At one point I thought it was infected because of local pain. Once it was out I was fine though. Hang tight

Hi guys, I'm 11 days post surgery and I find that I can eat quite a bit more than I thought I'd be able to. I just started drinking some vegetable Soup today and I can put down at least 1.5 cups at one sitting. Is this too much? I am getting adequate Protein amounts from shakes and greek yogurt, but I'm concerned that I'm able to eat food at a pretty good clip. Today I have had the following: Protein shake for Breakfast Protein shake for lunch since then at least three bowls (about 1 cup) of home made vege soup 3/4 cup of greek yogurt with some canned fruit cocktail (no sugar added) I'm still hungry and I have room for more. What do you guys think?

That's not necessarily true, and you could be putting your body into starvation mode. You should be talking with your nutritionist and or your surgeon about what you can do to drop your last bit of weight. Good luck! Starvation mode doesn't apply to people who have extra fat on their bodies, and certainly not for people who are obese. Its a weight loss myth that has been beat to death. I know giving up our food is hard psychologically, but you need to give up control of it at least a little bit to make this surgery work. I got to my goal weight because I kept my calories low for the whole first year (around 650 to 800 per day), while those in my cohort (support group) who were of the "starvation mode" mindset and increased calories and exercise are still considered overweight, and not by a narrow margin. You will not die, you will not starve to death. Your fat is there to feed your body in times of famine. If you want it to come off your body, you have to decrease intake and force your body to use its energy stores. Your calories need to come from your body, not from your plate. Actually science backs up my assertion that when stalled temporarily increasing calories and exercise will trigger a metabolic boost which burns calories. You're cohorts may still be considered overweight, but there may also be other factors. 600-800 calories a day is just not feasible for everyone. I'm taking in ~1200 and losing steadily. I'm happy that you met your goal. That's wonderful, but not everyone is you -

Seems everyone is doing great! I agree about being cold. It bothers me more than ever before. Surgery 2/25 SW257,DOS 242, CW 222. I'm eating about ~1200 calories a day. Protein is in the 75 gram range, with very little carbs. Can't tolerate much food at any one time, so I eat 5-6 times a day. -

4 weeks out, tried some regular food
Bruce Peter posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been on the mushy stage for about 2 weeks so today I tried some regular food. Here's what I had and how it went: ~1-1.5 oz roasted chicken 2 maybe three green beens a very small portion of green salad about 4 small slices of roasted potato A couple hours earlier I had about a cup of guacamole, no chips It went quite well, but I was not able to eat much all, which is fine. I mean that's the point, right? I had no issues with anything. I didn't eat till I was full, I ate until I was satisfied. I get a very slight pressure sensation in my esophogus when I've had enough. I pay attention to it and stop. Just wanted to share this with you all, especially those who are new. There is life on the other side of the liquid/mushy stages. Stick with to and you'll get there Cheers -

I didn't get much veggie matter in. Two Beans and about 2 TBSP of green salad. Avacado is a mushy food. -

Increase you calories and exercise. It will raise your metabolism and spur further weight loss. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but it works -

You should be talking with your nutritionist and or your surgeon about what you can do to drop your last bit of weight. Good luck! Exactly. That why I said to increase both intake and exercise. I know it's counter intuitive, but it triggers the metabolism to speed up which burns calories. But I agree, speak to your nutritionist first. -
Beef is a little hard, but everything else seems to be fine

Tried some meatloaf tonight. It didn't go so well
Bruce Peter posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I'm in week 4 post op. I've been on the mushy stage about 9 days eating a bit of ground turkey, pork and chicken, cooked in a crock pot with some low carb veggies. I've had no problems with any of it so I decided to try meatloaf. That did not go so well. I found myself hiccuping and feeling some slight discomfort. I chewed it well, but it must be too soon. Just thought I'd share this in case anyone else decides to try this All the best B -

Milk, eggs, spices and bread crumbs -
I know we're taught to reach goals for Protein and Water, and I meet that every day. Is anyone counting calories and carbs? If so what are you limiting them to. For instance, MY Fitness pal has me on 1600 calories a day in order to loose 2 lbs per week. I have been keeping it below that, around 1000-1200, but never really traced carbs. I'm not eating much in the way of carbs, but yogurt, cottage cheese and most foods have some amount. Thanks in advance
