  1. Great suggestion, @@adriant, and definitely true for me as well. At 6 mos out, poached is the only way my stomach tolerates eggs. I couldn't even eat them for the first 3 months.

Well, maybe it'll work out. I've never seen them done concurrently, but I guess it's possible. The only way to know for sure is to talk to your WLS and your OB/GYN both.
  3. It's up to you whether or not you want to increase your calories, but if you do, you have to add another meal/snack, not eat more at one sitting That's definitely part of the learning curve, and when I hit 'done', not one more morsel can enter my mouth.

    Advice

@@GinaAnn It would probably be very difficult to coordinate those two surgeries. You can generally get more than one thing done during one procedure if they're relatively co-located and can be done by the same surgical team, ie I had the VSG and an umbilical hernia repaired all at one. Many people have their gallbladder removed and hiatal hernias fixed as well during WLS. Having an ovary removed, as you said, requires a different surgical team and would require a separate prep and incisions as well, as it couldn't be done from the VSG site.
  5. @@Tootsietoes So, if you're 600 lbs, there IS a one-size-fits-all solution, but not if you're 300 lbs. Got it. And if I'm not mistaken, you just produced a gorgeous example of the straw man fallacy. Congratulations, you managed to both create a fallacious argument AND oppose it all in one comment! Bravo! @@Hammer_Down ...I got it right, no?

    Running

@@cdsjjotn I had the same fear about running again...I guess I don't completely trust my body even with so much weight gone? My husband (super fit, runs several times a week, same weight as when we married almost 26 years ago!) suggested that I start out on the treadmill to feel more stable and it really helped! I used the handles for a week or so then ran without using them...now I'm running outside and feel totally comfortable! I think I just needed that little bump to get me out running and out of my own head
  8. I'll go first I'm still in losing mode, only 6 months out...I've lost almost 80 and have about 35 lbs to go. Baked goods, all the Cookies, pies and cakes are my Achilles heel always, so this time of year feels particularly fraught with food dangers for me. I thought it over long and hard and decided that I'm going to buckle down and keep on plan. I'm really worried that if I allow myself those easy, slider carbs that I won't be able to get myself back in hand in January and I'm not going to live like that again. June was the beginning of a new, healthier possibility for me and it's just not worth screwing up for some snickerdoodles and cheesecake. We attend a LOT of social functions because of my husband's job, so I've had many opportunities to practice at buffet tables and receptions during the last 6 months. I've learned to find the Protein, eat just enough to look 'normal' and sip on a wine/seltzer combo for the duration. It's worked well so far so I'm just doing the same, avoiding the dessert table and enjoying wearing a much smaller size and much higher heels Looking good definitely tastes better than scalloped potatoes!

    80 pounds or so

I've lost 80 lbs and am about 35 from goal. If I were at goal right now, I'd have an abdominoplasty and probably a brachioplasty as well. My belly is wrecked from 3 pregnancies and my arms are flappy. My legs, on the other hand, are fine and once I'm running more regularly, they'll be great.
  10. You know, I don't know you. You're a person on a message board who I've occasionally agreed with, occasionally disagreed with and that was pretty much the sum total of it. Today I became a huge fan of you. I'm sorry about law school and I have no advice to offer you, but after seeing you here over the last 6 months and seeing your ability to be you without concern for group-think or being in the 'norm', I can't help but think that you're going to be just fine. With all that you've related of your life, what on earth is EVER going to stop you from doing whatever the hell you want to? If law school is your life-long dream, then go get it. One failed class/final isn't going to stop a woman with your determination and drive, there's just no way. Throw away the Doritos and Butterfingers bites and get back at it. I'd put money on you adding JD to your name. Hugs.

6 week boredom. How to deal?

@@show1980 I think it's easy to get bored with food early on, but I kind of like the lack of variety that I can get by with, honestly. When I cook now, I'm cooking very basic protein/veg meals, with no starch included unless one of the family wants to make rice or something. Grilled chicken with sauteed kale/onions/garlic was dinner last night, tonight will be zoodles with spaghetti sauce which has turned out to be a popular Pasta stand-in. I make pork tenderloin with chard, steak with mushrooms, etc. and let them add a starch in as they want, like oven roasted potatoes/sweet potatoes or butternut squash.

Got confused today re eating bugles ....

Actually, this page was made because someone in another country didn't understand what a Bugle was. They aren't sold there. The conversation went off track from there, granted. But the page was not made to mock you.Reread the page.... Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App No one needs to 'reread the page'. The OP TOLD YOU that it's not to make fun of you. That's the 'period, end of discussion' that you seem fond of saying but don't recognize for yourself. Regarding the "snacks" thread on the main board, you need to toughen up, buttercup. WLS is a rough ride and it's a tough crowd...these vets have done what all of us are hoping and praying we can do, which is end the weight loss/gain rollercoaster forever. They didn't get here by making excuses for themselves and calling people bullies, they did it by following their programs, asking for truthful advice and by doing the hard, right thing diet-wise. If I decide sucking on Bugles is something worth posting about, I HOPE they call me out on it. They can laugh at me, and call me names, too, although they don't do that. I just had MAJOR, IRREVERSIBLE surgery and if I'm still shoving Bugles down my throat immediately post-op, I hope they kick me straight in the butt. If you're looking for 'oh, sweetie, everyone does it', just tell yourself that and skip the board entirely.

    Foodie Life Post-op

I was a HUGE foodie (no pun intended!) pre-op, and I think the sleeved life lends itself to being a foodie, honestly. For me, I'm eating what I want (minus tons of carbs, but I hardly miss all of that) but just in a vastly reduced volume, which doesn't change my enjoyment of food. My surgical program is all about Protein, fats and eating satisfying food; before, when I would do Weight Watchers or whatever the diet du jour was, I'd have to cut out fats and basically anything with taste or staying power...then I'd fail because my diet was so boring and spartan. I think you'll find that you can still enjoy the things you enjoy now, but it won't be the drive for volume that it used to be...in a way that makes us REAL foodies, since it's all about the taste now. The alcohol is a different topic and one that brings about many different opinions. My team goes at this one as a moderation vs a removal from your life. Of course, if it's a problem for you, that's a whole other thing, but I was cleared for alcohol consumption when I was cleared to a full diet. I have a little wine or a few sips of beer, but I don't enjoy either as much as I used to and I do have to count them as carbs. Good luck, and I think it's great that you're looking at yourself and your food lifestyle this critically

Got confused today re eating bugles ....

Oh mah gawd...it's the same damned thing that JUST WON'T DIE. Your feelings being hurt does NOT equal bullying. Someone laughing about people eating the same CRAP that got them fat in the first week post-op isn't bullying. Nor is telling you it's a colossally stupid idea to eat said CRAP. If you're sensitive or easily offended or prone to yelling 'mom, he's looking at me' and proclaiming that the entire world is bullying you, Rants and Raves might be a bit much for you. Some of you are going to need a thicker skin and better sense of humor to survive life in general, let alone participate in an internet message board.

    The Stall From Hell

@@mylastchance21 You may be on to something re: not eating enough. I saw my surgeon for my 6 month follow up last week and he wants me to go up by 200 calories/day. He thinks I'm slowing down because I'm not eating enough! Imagine someone telling ME that I need to eat MORE...I felt kind of faint

    The Stall From Hell

@@mylastchance21 Just want to echo the good advice you've already gotten...don't compare your weight loss to others, and make sure you recognize the gender of the responders. Men lose weight very differently than women, and it seems particularly true after WLS. @@sgc is able to eat tortillas and Pasta ( @@sgc did you mean you cook half of a 10oz box of pasta and eat it in one meal? I don't think I could eat that volume of pasta BEFORE my sleeve!), I don't eat pasta at all and only an occasional high-protein/high-fiber/low-carb tortilla, and I'm pretty sure that many carbs wouldn't work for me at 6 months. Drink your Water, get your Protein, move as much as you can...it WILL work. Cut out that negative self-talk and stick with your program. You've already lost a LOT of weight, and it will keep coming off

    Puréed and soft foods

Refried Beans were my favorite on soft foods. With cheese and sour cream Also, yogurt, ricotta bake (do a search, you'll find the recipe), cottage cheese, thicker Soups, flaky fish, scrambled/poached egg. I had some mashed potatoes, too, but some avoid them. I tried to stay away from pudding, although many patients eat it. You'll love getting off liquids, just take it easy and introduce things slowly!
  22. I'm 6 months out and I'm just starting to have some occasional twinges of hunger. I've also had many periods of food aversion, so it's normal for me! They've come and gone over my post-op course...just make sure you're getting your fluids in and try to eat as much as you can to get close to your Protein goals when you're hating food. Good luck!

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

@@Seastars Yes, raw tuna is the ONLY way I can stand it...in fact, I'd prefer all of my fish raw at this point. There's a restaurant in Olympia that we frequent that makes a great tuna tartare-ish dish...I could eat it every day! We're taking a visitor to Seattle today so I think I'll get some tuna at Pike Place (since everyone who visits seems to need to watch people throw fish ). Thanks for the reminder!

    Diet After Surgery

My program stresses a minimum Protein level, but no calorie counting until I'm in maintenance. I log my food so I know how many calories I'm getting daily, but I'm not living by that calorie count. I do work to get my protein, as it's pretty clear that a low protein diet combined with rapid weight loss can result in loss of muscle...I don't want that. I'm eating a pretty balanced diet, low on grains but not grain-free. I've eaten Beans, veg and some fruit from one month out, again this is all 'plan approved', and I use GENEPRO to bolster my protein intake. I don't think your plan is all that far from what a lot of us are eating, honestly. I kind of laugh at any doctor who thinks he/she has some revolutionary approach to eating...it's all been done, many of us here on this website have done most of it, and different plans work for different people. It sounds like yours is great for you and that's what really matters!
