Please continue to use your cpap! It took me a couple of months to feel more rested while using it, but I NEVER sleep without mine now. As long as your mask fits appropriately and your pressure settings are correct, you will feel better. Can you review your sleep data each day with your machine? I have a ResMed AirSense 10, and I can access my data either directly on the machine or through the myAir app. It lets me see how many hours I slept, how my mask seal was during the night, how many apneas/hypopneas per hour and if I took my mask off during the night. There may be some data that will help you decide if all is well (if you have more than a 10 as your apnea/hypopnea index -AHI-, you may need to have it adjusted, for example) and you just need to wait it out or if you need to talk with your sleep doc or your DME provider. Good luck, and use the CPAP. Your overall health will be SO much better!

It's not about how many bites you can eat, it's about how many calories you're taking in, how many you're expending through exercise and how that balance is affecting your weight loss. You say "eggs and sausage"...how many eggs? How much sausage? Cooked in oil or butter? Are you drinking before/with/immediately after meals? Are you still following the 'Protein first' rule? So many questions If you think you're following plan and you're not losing, then you need to start religiously logging...you can't make any changes if you don't know precisely what you're doing. As time goes by and we lose more and get closer to goal and maintenance, it becomes even MORE important to be diligent about what goes into your mouth. I'm 7 months out, my honeymoon period is OVER and I'm buckling down to grind out this last 30 lbs, and guessing/estimating what I'm eating is NOT going to get it done.

Tricare insurance requirements
ShelterDog64 replied to Berry78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The proof of attempts means you attempted to lose weight previously....I had documentation of talking with my PCM about my weight, increasing exercise, joining Weight Watchers, etc. I can't help you with the question about OBH visits...8 seems excessive. I have Tricare Prime in Western Region and I'm seen at a military treatment facility. I had 2 required OBH visits, one to fill out a LONG computer inventory and the other to meet with a psychologist to discuss the results. -
Already sleeved question
ShelterDog64 replied to sleeveme17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say one of two things: "Why wouldn't I do it if it's easy?" or "Wow, that's rude" People who would ask a question like that don't deserve your time or consideration. -
Considering Gastric Sleeve
ShelterDog64 replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Walter.Sobchak Reading all these posts, I can see you've been through a lot in 38 years. On the surface, you'd probably think we have little in common...I'm a 52 year old woman, my kids are grown and I'm heading toward the retirement years. But we have one really big thing in common: we both have a life that's worth being around to live. I was 262 on surgery day, and my health was complete crap. I had fibromyalgia, severe joint pain, constant foot pain, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes and I generally felt awful all of the time. I didn't want to go anywhere or do anything because walking hurt, moving hurt, I hated the way I looked and there were times when I thought nothing could ever help me. Then I had an appointment to have an umbilical hernia evaluated for surgery and the triage nurse asked if I was there to start the bariatric pathway. I hated her then, for asking such a question...but it made me think and put me on the path to surgery. That question may have saved my life. (I took her a huge bunch of flowers when I went in for my 4 week post-op appt, we both cried) My life was worth saving, and it's still worth living. My pain is gone, I'm happier and healthier, I look forward to each day in a way I'd completely forgotten. When I read what you've written about how you feel and your fears, my heart hurts for you. I hope you are able to do something to change the path you're on, health-wise. It doesn't matter if it's surgery, OA, whatever...just find something to help you. You ARE worth it. Every single one of us is. -
Denial about my weight
ShelterDog64 replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Walter.Sobchak I think that finally 'seeing' yourself is a very good first step to doing something about your weight. Next, it's helpful to figure out just what behaviors got you to where you are. My psychologist has been invaluable while I've been on this little journey. Losing the excess weight is the mechanical part, and the sleeve helps a lot with that...but if we don't explore WHY we got to obesity and how to prevent it, the sleeve is just pissing into the wind, you know? Good luck to you and congratulations for the self-realization -
Help...pain, weak, and discouraged
ShelterDog64 replied to NCGURL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@NCGURL How were you doing on liquids and purees/soft foods? Did the pain start happening when you advanced to denser Proteins? That much pain isn't normal...you could have a stricture, so you need to talk with your surgical team ASAP. -
The need to eat until stuffed
ShelterDog64 replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the info, Jerome at unjury...I'm well aware of the 'concerns' about Genepro. Your product unfortunately makes me vomit, so I've found something else that works. I'm losing weight and my labs have been stellar. -

ShelterDog64 replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

ShelterDog64 replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@MrsSugarbabe I mix it with the cold cream I'm going to add, it will occasionally get a few small clumps but I stir it briskly into the hot coffee (straight out of my espresso maker) and they usually disappear. For lattes, I mix it with a bit of cold water, then add that to the latte after I mix the steamed milk and espresso. Once it's been mixed with a cool/cold liquid, it's never clumped when added to the hot liquid. Good luck, and I hear you about the coffee filling you up...I usually just have my protein coffee, then eat a bit of yogurt mid-morning since the coffee is all I need first thing. -
I just had a couple of apple slices with Peanut Butter...sounds like a pitbull with a rope toy is in my stomach And I'm 7 mos out...it just happens from time to time.

ShelterDog64 replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what you're quibbling about...I'm a medical professional as well, and I find internet forums to be impersonal. If you'd prefer to be upset by them vs reframing the interaction in a way that's less harmful, that's your choice. -
Different scales = different weights
ShelterDog64 replied to AGreenEyedWolf's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@AGreenEyedWolf You have to pick one scale and go by that...either get one for home or only trust the one at your bariatric practice or wherever you go the most often. I weigh myself at the same time of day, wearing the same thing, on my home scale. I then ignore the actual # on my doctor's scale and only concern myself with the change since the last #. -
@@haliib I won't wear a 'no blind intubation' bracelet because if I *need* an emergent airway, I don't care if they blow my stomach out getting one. Blind intubations aren't common and not having a patent airway and being hypoxic is life threatening and more important than preserving the integrity of my sleeve.

Feel Hungry, Don't Feel Full?
ShelterDog64 replied to StarPower's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@StarPower You will feel 'full' and/or 'satisfied' again...you won't feel any of the true restriction of your sleeve, though, until you're eating denser foods. The pain goes away (which is awesome!), and you'll learn what the 'I'm done' feeling is like. Mine is like a darned STOP sign goes up and I'm done. -
The need to eat until stuffed

I think it's good to maybe reframe online forums as impersonal, rather than insensitive. People speak rather frankly when they don't 'know' one another. -

@@bleonhardt It doesn't change it at all, at least to my palate. I use cream in my coffee, so I mix the scoop of GENEPRO with the coffee cream, then mix that into my coffee. It's really helped me and made my weight loss more successful! -
@@Kaylamh Your way is the way I've handled my WLS/telling people. I've not gone full-on FB public with it, but the people I interact with locally know. I've been very open with them, and I've been relentlessly positive about the whole thing. People find it VERY hard to say 'oh, why would you do something like that' or make any negative comment when I tell them that I did it to make my health and life better. I've (80 lbs later) gotten a couple of inquiries about how much more I plan to lose, with 'you look great now' attached, but I just smile and say 'about 30 more, and then I'll see how I look/feel'. I think sometimes people feel compelled to say something like 'you don't need to lose anymore' as a way of being supportive and praising you for you progress. I truly have not had ANY negative comments...I've got some really great people in my life

When does appetite return?
ShelterDog64 replied to _Mini_Me_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The poached egg sounds like something I could stomach. Dumb question: would i have to puree it since its so soft already? I cant do the pureed meats that are recommended I have had bad experiences with them. A lot of things that tasted good before surgery just make me gag now. Like meat, gravy, pudding, Jello, and the Protein shakes I had. I just can't tolerate the taste anymore. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App No, don't puree the poached egg...it's soft enough to eat, just chew well, of course. I never ate any pureed meat...blech, even the idea of it is horrid. I also can't eat canned tuna at all. The smell, the texture, ugh. But fresh fish has been a lifesaver, and I ate a lot of ricotta bake, cottage cheese (I mixed in 'just fruit' preserves, or used lemon pepper, depending on my mood), yogurt (I still eat yogurt almost daily) and refried Beans on soft/pureed. -

@@gustavio Heavy cream has sugar, ~6.5 grams/cup. It's the same sugar as in all dairy, which is lactose. 1T has just less than .5 grams of sugar, so the package may say zero grams of carbs per serving, but it's very misleading. I never have just one tablespoon of any cream in my coffee, more like 3-4 T so I'd have to count it as about 1.5-2 grams of sugar. I use half and half most of the time, ~10.5 grams/cup, so my 4T serving is about 2.5 grams of sugar. I know it sounds piddly, but it all adds up over the course of a day. -

Question for all post op vets ( at least 2 years post op or longer)
ShelterDog64 replied to xoxococojay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
LoL.. it's not name calling.. to use an often bandided phrase here, it's "telling it like it is" Did I claim to be a veteran? That was why I left a disclaimer in my post. Not once did I claim I was a 'vet'. I was more concerned with why instead of telling someone with a genuine question proper advice, all you were doing was claiming that the vets are gone or going. Didn't my advice turn out to be true? I never try to make peoples threads about me or someone else. I just try to help and move on. Anyway... nothing more to say here. Clearly something else is bothering you. Perhaps a new thread may provide a medium for other people to be of some assistance. Have a pleasant evening.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App Don't hand-slap, okay? If you have something to say, say it, but don't chastise others for saying what they want. Playground 101, right? It's been a long day here on BP -

When does appetite return?
ShelterDog64 replied to _Mini_Me_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Maggie_ If it's time to advance your diet, you really need to try. It's essential, nutrition-wise, that you get to whole foods and staying in liquids makes it hard to get all your nutrients. Try cottage cheese, a mashed-up poached egg, thicker Soup, etc. Just a little, but don't lag behind your dietary advancement too much. -

I'm gonna be the Debbi Downer here...those skinny lattes still have 14-16 grams of sugar. A Flat White comes in around 15 grams of sugar. IF you're low-carbing, those can be tough choices. If you have almond milk, it's only 9 grams, with 2 grams of Fiber, so maybe a better option. I love them all and get a whole-milk latte on occasion, so no judgement, just info
