Late June Sleeve Buddies?
ShelterDog64 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't agree more about every day being it's own little journey! A couple of days ago, I just felt gross. Weird taste in my mouth, struggling with even getting my Water in much less 90g protein! I went for a walk and felt awful, I literally went to bed at 8pm just to get that day over with. Fast forward to today, I bounced out of bed early to let the dog out, decided it was so gorgeous out that I took him for a walk. Came back, made a decaf Protein coffee and read on my back patio until my husband got up. We took our kayaks out and paddled around for a couple of hours and now we're home doing house chores and I can't believe it's already 5pm. I'd sure love many more days like today and for the 'gross' day to be rare...I'm sure I'll have more of them but it's nice to have a group to share the ups and downs with :-) -
My surgery was June 21st as well! I don't know about a Facebook page, but there's a nice group of us posting on this thread: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/370515-late-june-sleeve-buddies/ Come and join us!

You've lost pretty much 1 lb per day...that's great weight loss, especially so soon post-op. I don't think it's smart or fair to yourself to compare your weight loss to anyone else's, even your twin. Everyone's body acts differently after major surgery, give yourself some time! I lost 1 lb/day for 23 days and now I'm stuck, but I'm just sticking to the program and I know it will come off. BUT, I'm walking even more and went kayaking for an hour today, even though it would have been nice to nap on the couch. I KNOW moving more will help kick me out of this mini stall I'm in. Dust yourself off and focus on the positives, like the seven pounds you've lost since 7/9! I've NEVER been able to lose a pound a day before, it's like magic!

@Traciebenison I'm June 21st as well! How are you feeling? -
This was exactly what I was instructed by my surgeon at my 2 week post-op checkup. I'm eating grilled chicken and pork, squash, green Beans, cherries, mozzarella cheese, etc. Chewing them to baby food consistency, but it's still real food

I hate people around me
ShelterDog64 replied to karine76's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You've lost pretty much a pound a day...that's very good! Don't set up situations that allow others to make negative comments, that's just going to sabotage you at a time when you should be feeling very positive about yourself! When people ask me how I'm doing post-surgery, I never talk about pounds lost or how I look, I talk about how I feel. I feel fantastic, I'm in less pain, I have more stamina and more energy. Other people can't take any of that away from me Hang in there, you're doing great! -

Newbie questions
ShelterDog64 replied to MarieLouise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 3.5 weeks post op, so someone with more experience will have to answer about the foam. I was prescribed both a stool softener and a drug called Senna when I was discharged. I discontinued the Senna pretty quickly, it was causing some diarrhea, but I'm still taking the stool softener. 3 days with no bowel movement is well within normal, my doc said not to get concerned until I got to more like 10 days with nothing. I think my first one was about 5 or 6 days post-op. -

I've had some grilled zucchini and oven-roasted broccoli, I make it pretty much the way Valentina described. Just chew it very well and eat your Protein first -
@@melvin5ft2 All of my pain has been on my upper right side...it's just referred pain and it's not uncommon at all. When I had appendicitis a few years ago, all of my pain was upper left instead of lower right where it 'should' be :-)

Diarrhea after first full liquid?
ShelterDog64 replied to Twinmom07's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't do a bowel prep for my sleeve...I ate a normal dinner the night before and was NPO from midnight on. I'm STILL going from diarrhea to constipation, it's so frustrating. -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
ShelterDog64 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We were out doing some shopping last night and it got late, so stopped to get some dinner with my husband, son and son's friend. Ended up at a brewpub-y kind of place and it was HARD to find something to eat. I ended up going with a cup of chowder, but for the first time, I had food envy. They had fried calamari, which is (was!) one of my top 10 favorite things to eat EVER. But the envy wasn't so strong that I did something stupid, like eat a piece of it...this morning I feel virtuous even though the scale isn't moving right now. I can't wait until I can go out and order a salad with some grilled chicken or salmon. Never thought a salad would feel like a splurge! Hope you're all looking forward to a fun weekend....but where is our Maggie? I wish she'd post and let us know how she's doing. -

Me!! I was losing 1 lb/day, then lost 3 lbs in one day...then no loss for 3 days, lost 1 lb and now no loss for 3 days. I'm doubling down on ensuring I'm getting at least 60g protein/day and riding it out. This stall can't last forever, I'm only eating 500-600 calories/day! We bought kayaks yesterday so hopefully some time paddling around the Sound this weekend will jump start me I did measure myself yesterday and I've lost 6 inches off my waist and 4 from my thighs I'm sorry you're going through it, too, but glad to have some company in my misery! -
Which to do....
ShelterDog64 replied to Corey A Duplantis's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your BMI is about 74...in the practice where I was recently sleeved, you would be a candidate for a Duodenal Switch or a Roux-en-Y bypass, or for a sleeve gastrectomy as a first step, to help you lose some weight prior to a revision to a DS or RNY. This is definitely something that you can only decide in talking with your surgeon, because your co-morbidities will contribute to the decision in a major way. Good luck to you. -

Diarrhea after first full liquid?
ShelterDog64 replied to Twinmom07's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I advanced from clear to full liquids, my stomach did NOT like it at all. I tried Protein shakes, had diarrhea, I tried a creamed soup, same outcome. I moved myself back to clear liquids for a couple of days, then tried again and it was fine. It just wasn't time yet, I guess. -

I made the ricotta bake tonight...it was SO. DARNED. GOOD. -
7-8 T of food per meal! I'm not sure I could get that much in right now, except for liquids. I'm about to complete week 3 and tonight was the first time I had 4T of food...I made that yummy ricotta bake and it was AMAZING.

@@Kaze I would think a fibrous, grainy cracker would be something like Triscuits, which kind of shatter when you bite them and are hard to chew up really well, or any cracker loaded with seeds/nuts/other firm bits. My program (and mine is definitely a large, successful program with very few complications or failures among it's patients) allows moving to more 'normal' foods earlier than I see many of the others here talking about. I saw my doctor for my 2 week checkup and he removed almost all food restrictions, within guidelines like 'chewchewchew everything to a paste' and 'low carb, low sugar', and expecting me to maintain appropriate portions, which my sleeve greatly aids me with Maybe as time has gone by and bariatric surgeries have become more common, they've loosened the reins a bit. I also didn't have to do a pre-op diet, as my surgeon feels those mostly make his patients miserable and do little to affect the size of the liver. Anyway, enjoy your crackers. I can have them, but don't feel quite ready yet. Good luck!

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
ShelterDog64 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Susie66, I've been doing the same thing the past few days. I was stalled for a couple of days and trying to not freak out since I KNOW everyone has stalls. It's easier to read about someone else sitting in one place or gaining than it is to experience it yourself. I'm really trying to not be neurotic but I just had 3/4 of my stomach removed and I'm a little fragile right now -

My day looks a lot like yours Protein shake or oatmeal with milk for breakfast a little cheese for snack chicken or turkey, chewed to death, for lunch fat free pudding with Protein powder for snack Dinner is the protein from my family's dinner, usually fish or chicken, plus a bit of the veg they're having I'm barely hitting 60g protein unless I can stomach 2 shakes/day, which isn't often. I'm taking my Vitamins religiously and pushing water as much as possible. -

Mine began near end of week 2. Wont be same for all. I think it is great we are taking this stall in stride and not panicking. Ha ha. I just know that anytime I have lost weight, there are always stalls. And I have a lot of practice at losing weight! :-) Me, too, suzzzzz...I've done Weight Watchers after each pregnancy and I know those stalls or plateaus come out of nowhere. And I'm not going to let them demoralize me anymore! -

I think my 3 week stall has begun...I was losing 1lb/day, then lost 3 Friday and the scale hasn't budged since. I'm writing down everything that goes in my mouth, so I know it's not something I'm doing but it was fun watching the weight go down vs seeing the same number. I'm betting on 5 days then I'm back being a loser! Happy Sunday, everyone! And Maggie, are you ok? I've been wondering... -
@@Valentina I was looking at your ticker, you've lost 96 lbs and have 22 to go. I've lost 22 and have 90 to go. Ha!
