3 months post-op and having trouble with meat :(
ShelterDog64 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the past week or so, I've been getting very nauseated every time I eat meat. Previously, I've done great with all of it...chicken, beef, fish, pork, no issues at all. Now, I nearly vomit when I eat any of them. Any insights as to why this might be happening? Hopefully it's temporary? Should I go back to supplements for a few days and give my stomach a break? Help -
@@HopefulInVirginia With all due respect to the moron (which is NONE), f*&k him. You don't need that kind of bs in your life right now. Obesity is still something other people feel fine discriminating against and feel free talking to/about other people as though they're idiots if they're obese. I'd be willing to be you've spent more time, money and emotion on your weight than he's EVER had to put forth regarding HIS. Go and get your surgery and be proud of yourself. For caring about yourself, your family and the people who care about YOU. You'll soon be a healthier weight and along with it will come better self-esteem and a better head-space about yourself. You're growing and moving in a positive direction, people like your husband's co-worker aren't...they're stuck with their petty thoughts and ugly minds.

Burning / Stabbing / Ripping pain on my left side
ShelterDog64 replied to Jentastic19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Jentastic19 Only about a week to 10 days, they were so minor that I don't really recall. I had one incision (where they pulled my stomach out) that was sorer and still has a lump from the suture under it, but nothing really painful. I'm sorry this is all happening to you -

ShelterDog64 replied to Jentastic19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since you've already had a complicated post-op course, I wouldn't sit on this...call your surgeon/team and get seen ASAP. I had only tiny tugging pains directly under my incisions, so anything more would be very alarming. -
Is it true what I hear ?
ShelterDog64 replied to bellabeans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still have no hunger, so I don't get a 'satisfied' feeling because there's nothing to satisfy. I weigh and measure my food diligently and always eat my Protein first so that when my restriction hits, I've gotten what matters most into my stomach. I just eat slowly and really pay attention to how my stomach is feeling, because if I go a bite over, I'm miserable. The feeling is clear and unmistakeable (for me, it's like a STOP sign goes up and I'm DONE), but if you're eating too fast, you can already be a couple of bites over your limit before you feel it...then it's bad, for me. -
How much do eat.

@@leebick What kind of Protein shakes do you use? I'm back to them for a little while and while I DID use the Premier Protein during my full liquid phase, it's repulsive now. I'm looking for something a little more palatable while I get through this little speed bump I've hit. -
How do you Track/Journal?

I use MyFitnessPal, I like the mobile app and I like that it syncs with my Fitbit. I also use MapMyWalk, which integrates with MFP as well. -
I THOUGHT I was sleeved...
ShelterDog64 replied to leebick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, that is a very common and smart practice for most surgeons. This is part of the required 'time-out' at our facility. The surgeon who will perform the procedure comes into pre-op, goes over the consent with you for a final time and initials the limb/joint/whatever that you'll have surgery on. To the OP...the likelihood that you truly had the wrong procedure is extremely low, but that doesn't lessen your anxiety at all, I'm sure. It's probably a data-entry mistake, but you need a prompt (immediate!!) answer to you inquiry. The surgeon's operative report will detail exactly what was done, and should be provided to you right away. I'm absolutely stunned that someone thought it was ok to say 'well, we'll just have you in for a barium swallow to confirm' as though a) this is a common event and b ) it's fine to perform unnecessary tests on patients for our own convenience. My last thought on all this is that YOU won't be paying anyone else a DIME for ANY follow-up in this mess. -
I hate to swim for exercise, but I do like Water aerobics. You can adjust the intensity as needed to get your heart rate in your target area. Walking is great, but I like to mix it up a little...use the elliptical, the stair machine, bike, recumbent bike, rowing machine. And I know you said you don't like weights, but strength training is important. Doing a circuit on machines is kind of fun because you get instant gratification as you get stronger...I love being able to add a weight plate on a machine because I've moved past the last weight I lifted. And last, mix it up as far as outside vs inside...I get bored with the gym, but also bored with my typical neighborhood walking routes. Get in the car and go somewhere different to walk or bike, take a different route around your neighborhood. I use the Map My Walk app to record distance but also to store routes. Good luck!

My NUT is a nut
ShelterDog64 replied to futurefeatherweight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I could believe like you do, but that kind of thinking got me to almost 300lbs. No the worst case scenario isn't that my head will explode, it's that I will wind up back there again. Yep, couldnt agree with you more, Jess9395. That is exactly my worst case scenario...and I'm avoiding it by giving a LOT of consideration to 'broad based format diet guidelines' instead of having this surgery then heading off merrily trusting my own instincts. Those instincts got me to 262 lbs. -
Post-Op Spa Services

ShelterDog64 replied to Raynbolite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it will get better! Your period is probably screwed up because you're releasing a lot of estrogen that's been stored in fat cells in your body. The constipation is usually a symptom of dehydration...are you getting the recommended amount of fluids each day? I'm very iron-sensitive, so I take a Fiber gummy daily and it does the job as long as I'm drinking plenty of Water, too. Hang in there, this is just a bump in the road -
I'm 3 months out and I have the same under one of mine...it's the site where they pulled my stomach out. The incision gets a bit stretched so the stitch is more like a loop (it's called a purse-string suture) that's pulled tight then tied off. The lump will eventually go away as the body absorbs the suture.

Questions about pre-op tests
ShelterDog64 replied to kimberb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to have anything done that I'd need done during the year following my surgery...for me, that meant a pap smear, mammogram and colonoscopy because of my age. The GI clinic did an endoscopy while I was out for the colon scope. My doc would not have done a sleep study unless I was symptomatic for apnea. -
I'm Standard and we are also at JBLM! So I have all my appointments off post Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App Its so easy through Prime here, you do all your appts at Madigan as well as the surgery. Where is your surgeon located off post?
-
Everything is covered, since I'm Prime. My PCM documented my prior Weight Watchers losses and that was all I needed. We're at JBLM, there's a huge bariatric program here. Are you Prime or Standard? That will make a difference as to how you're covered.

We're Tricare Prime, I had my surgery at a MTF. The pre-op pathway was thorough and took a while

3 months post-op and having trouble with meat :(
ShelterDog64 replied to ShelterDog64's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ I do still have my gallbladder, and although this doesn't feel like classical GB symptoms, it could be! I figure I'll have to lose it at some point along the way, I'm the only female in my immediate family who still has her gallbladder I'm still on my PPI, so I hope this isn't an acid issue breaking through...that would not bode well for life after PPIs. -

@@suzzzzz Good thinking about the shoulder surgery maybe triggering something. I'm not pleased with the CRNA who did the anesthesia for it; I have a very strong, negative reaction to inhaled anesthetics, and my recovery is always better if I'm only given IV sedation during surgery. The doc who did anesthesia for my VSG wasn't available for the shoulder, but he wrote a great note in my chart about exactly what he did, etc. as I had no nausea at all post-op VSG. The CRNA was skeptical that inhaled vs IV drugs would cause much nausea, so she used inhaled. I woke up nauseated and threw up in the recovery room. Maybe this is an extension of that...grrr. Why won't they just listen to us? Today, I'm pretending I'm on soft foods...refried Beans will be my Protein
