    Why no preop diet?

@@teacherjen My surgeons told me that they quit doing pre-op diets because both their experience and research has shown that it does virtually nothing to improve surgical times, complications and/or outcomes. Here's a study from from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery that agrees with their practice: https://asmbs.org/resources/preoperative-supervised-weight-loss-requirements

    Swelling and Fatigue

It's very individual. Some people have fatigue, Water retention and swelling for weeks, some don't. There really isn't a 'normal'. I had no fatigue at all post-op, was up walking 15 and 20 laps around the ward where I was admitted, started walking a mile a day on day 4. There was a male patient who was the surgical case before mine who could barely get out of bed and when I see him at support group, he's coming along much slower than I am. But it's all within the realm of normal. If its so bad that you're truly concerned, you should contact your surgeon/team and let them know.

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

@@magoosmom Congratulations on that great loss! Are you feeling fabulous? And happy birthday, too!
  5. Is this what your dietitian told you? Because I'm 4 months post-op and only supplement with powder in my morning coffee...I'm getting 90-110 grams of protein a day, with up to 80 grams of that from real food. It absolutely can be done, just takes some planning and practice.
  6. It has no corn syrup and is low calorie, at 40. I'd add some Protein powder and turn it into a really great snack. Is greek-style yogurt available in Canada? I never even both with traditional yogurt any more because greek is so high in protein. In the US, we can buy Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt, it's my go-to now. I also like Fage plain greek yogurt. And despite some opinions, sugar-free popsicles are only 15 calories each and thus are a relatively harmless sweet, cold item. You can make your own with any sugar-free drink and popsicle molds.
  7. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about a year prior to my surgery in June of this year. I'm still on amitriptyline but both the trigger points in my back AND my peripheral limb pain are completely gone. It's been miraculous, I was having acupuncture weekly, taking the amitriptyline and also had tried tramadol with no relief. I'd gotten to the point that I needed Vicoden occasionally to control the trigger point pain enough to sleep. I know it's not a typical outcome of the surgery, and I didn't expect it, but it's been one of the best things that's happened to me post-op

Oh, I didn't realize Reynolds had closed inpatient services I'm glad the shakes in the morning works well for you...it's funny how different all dietitians are in their recommendations. The one I have here at Madigan insists that we NOT use Meal Replacements, although I still do when I feel like it. But breakfast is the one meal that I find easy to get my protein, I'm more likely to do the shake or bar for lunch, that's my challenging meal. Good luck to you, when is your surgery?

What Is Your Beverage of Choice?

@@Sai Thank you so much! I'm going to order the grains right away...I really need to be on probiotics regularly and I like kefir a great deal. External appeal Tricare?

@@Schoe394 I don't think you can do an external appeal with Tricare. You're in WA, correct? Did you have your surgery at Madigan? If so, have you gone through all the hoops at the facility to try to get them to help you with Tricare? If you're Standard vs Prime, you may have no other options. Also, you said your sleeve failed due to surgical error...do you have this documented by another surgeon? You may be able to go back to that surgeon and have her/him help you with the appeal.

    No more weight loss

@@cheryl417 You ate virtually no Protein today...you won't lose without following your plan. The depression/sadness you're feeling is pretty understandable after such a traumatic surgery experience, but don't further sabotage yourself by eating 95% carbs. You're diabetic, and that's not acceptable for your diabetes, either. Do you have access to a dietitian or someone who can help you with your food choices? You lost 20 lbs so you clearly know what to do...you need to clear your head and reset yourself. I'm sorry you went through so much with the surgery, but it truly doesn't make any sense to hurt yourself even more by eating poorly. Your long-term health is at stake here, you simply CAN'T do this to yourself.
  18. She finds herself at Applebees and reaches out to a support forum...I don't understand replies like this, honestly. This didn't need to be another damned pile-on. It's getting old. In all fairness, I nicely told her order the tomato basil soup' and still got pooped on. I know, you seem to attract that kind of response and I hate it.

    Grazing

I feel like I get up every single day and say to myself 'yep, still can't do that stuff anymore'. It's honestly day by day by day...and if I screw up one day, the next day is a clean sheet until I choose to do something to screw it up again. I realized after my surgery that I used to head straight to the kitchen to get something to eat the minute I walked in the door. And I did it just now. Of course, I haven't already overeaten all day long and I didn't get a bagel or a bowl of ice cream, I got a yogurt, but the habit is still the same. I HAVE to break it. Be kind to yourself...you didn't dive head first in to a vat of Chunky Monkey, right
  22. This is what I do...we have a very active social life and I refuse to sit home, either It just takes planning, and sometimes the plan is that you don't eat at the restaurant you end up at. I keep a Protein Bar and a tube of Nuun tablets in my bag just in case I neglect that planning. You're early post-op, you'll get the hang of it. The soup was a great choice, keep on making those kinds of choices and you're going to be very successful!
