Refried Beans. I can't tell you how wonderful they were as I made the transition from liquids! And you can mix your unflavored Protein powder into them

    Vitamin Patches- Do they work?

I've used the Patches since about 2 weeks post-op, I'm now 5 mos post-op and my labs have been stellar. I use the multi Vitamin, the D3 with Calcium, the Iron and the b-12. They stick very well, I've never had one peel off. I have a latex allergy and am usually sensitive to adhesives and have no trouble at all with the patches. I shower, towel off and apply them, then put on my body lotion and just avoid those small areas. Then I remove them before bed.

    Need Sizing Help

It's almost impossible to know what size you'd be, even if you're at your goal in 9 months. You were in a 24 at just 20 lbs heavier and one inch shorter than me at my highest and I wore a 16. I'm down to a 10 or 12 after 70 lbs of weight loss, with my jean size being almost always a 10 and my tops being the 12. Who knows where you'll lose it from the fastest, and in my experience you can't compare it to how you've lost weight in the past. We all carry our weight differently and losing it this time around is completely different than anything I've ever experience. Can you afford to have the dress shop order more than one size and hold them for you so that you can come in for a fitting closer to the wedding and let them return the one(s) that won't work? At any rate, you're going to look and feel so fabulous for those weddings, how exciting!!

    Seriously?

Just spent an hour of my life I'll never get back reading in the Pre-/Post-Op Sleeve forums and I'm amazed by what people will still, even as they're undertaking MAJOR SURGERY, say to justify their behavior. There are people about to have most of their stomach removed who say "I don't have a problem with food". Say what?? I'm pretty sure the Fat Fairy didn't put all this weight on any of us, right? "I couldn't stop myself". Yes, you could have...you DIDN'T. "Everyone does it". No, they don't. YOU did. As I'm typing this out, it's clear that I'm fed up with the lack of ownership of behavior. It's odd to watch fat people trying to float the same justifications here that they've used for years with other people. Walking into a group of fat people and saying "I don't have a problem with food" is pretty ridiculous...that dog just won't hunt here. If you can't be honest with yourself and a group of people much like yourself, how can you succeed with WLS? The non-ownership of our own actions and capabilities is what got many (most?) of us to where we are and it kills me that there are people STILL wallowing in the 'I don't control myself' pool who are getting WLS. What a waste.

    Walking/exercise advise

I was walking a mile+ while still admitted to the hospital. I started walking outside the day I came home and the only restrictions for me were to not lift heavy things for 4 weeks. As long as you're not overexerting, don't have pain and are sure to stay hydrated, it's probably fine. Do your post-op instructions address exercise at all?

    Straws

My team laughed at the whole straw drama...my surgeon correctly says that we take in air ANY time we drink something, and the method doesn't matter. The same for gum after your stomach is healed...there's no reason to avoid it. I'm grateful for their reasoned approach to this kind of nit-picky stuff, there are more than enough REAL things to worry about after WLS without adding a ton of other restrictions that have no medical or physiological basis.

@@hova1980 One slushy is just one bad choice...if it becomes a habit, THEN it's a problem! I had 2 bites of pumpkin pie last night, that was a bad choice. If I do it again tonight and the night after, the pie has to leave my house

    Recommended calorie intake

I absolutely agree with @LisaMergs...there is NO WAY any reputable dietitian, nutritionist, nurse or surgeon would recommend 300-600 cals/day for 3 months. 3 weeks, maybe, but not 3 months. That's literally less than 2 Protein shakes/day. I was getting close to 600 cals/day at 3 weeks, and up to 800 a couple of weeks later. To the OP, I'm 5 mos out and still don't count calories...I get my protein (my dietitian prefers I get close to 110g/day but I manage 90g most days), I get my Water and if I'm eating the appropriate protein sources, I don't have to worry about calories. I just checked my food log to see what the calories look like and most days I'm getting 800-1000 and I'm steadily losing. Please don't eat in the 300-600 cal/day range. It's way too low, and you won't lose and will feel horrible.

  10. Good morning, BP! Over the last few weeks, my stomach has been rejecting meat in most forms...I can eat a little bit of fish, and maybe a bite of chicken, but nothing else. I'm consuming a lot of dairy and doing fine getting my Protein in, but I know some of you are vegetarians or vegans and may have some ideas for protein that I haven't thought of. What's out there beyond cheese and Beans? My dietitian suggested textured vegetable protein, but the smell kills me...I can't put it in my mouth. I should probably try it in tomato sauce? Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated. I've lost 71 lbs and hope to reach my goal by the end of January, so I'm in the home stretch. My bmi is now just overweight instead of obese, and I really think I'm going to make it to goal...I just need a little push and some new Proteins might be just the thing

Genepro clumpy - how to mix

I use mine in my coffee every morning, I put my half and half in the bottom of my cup, add the GENEPRO (sprinkle the scoop over the top, don't dump it in as one clump), stir it up well with a fork, then add the coffee. I have a high-end automatic espresso machine that dispenses at about 185 degrees, so the milk does the trick If you can't or don't use milk or cream, just put a few T of Water in the cup and do the same, then add the hot beverage. Definitely DON'T add the Protein powder to cold liquid then microwave it...that's a disaster.
  14. @@HisMrsWright Have you tried going back to clear Liquid Protein to get yourself hydrated and some nutrients into your body? I don't know where you are on your diet or where you're supposed to be on your plan at 4 weeks, but I had quite a lot of nausea as I advanced my diet in the first 8 weeks or so...backing off helped get it under control more than once.

    Doed it really hurt?

There's a bit of surgical pain post-op, but now that I'm months out, I don't look back and think "wow. that surgery was painful". I took my pain meds for 7 days, which kept me mobile and I really had no issues with pain other than when I first woke up in the PACU, which was quickly dealt with.

    Ideas for non-meat proteins?

I LOVELOVELOVE lentils and limas...I eat lentils 3 or 4 times a week, with curry spices or onions or tomatoes. I adore them. I love limas too but they don't love me...do you think it could be the skins on them? Thanks to you and your suggestion a while back about kefir, I bought some at Whole Foods and loved drinking it. It had been a while since I'd had any, so I wanted to give it a trial run before I bought the grains to make it myself. And tell me how you prepare tempeh? I can get it at our military grocery store, surprisingly, so I'm willing to give it a shot.

    First meeting with the surgeon

I tracked my food for 8 weeks pre-op, the My Fitness Pal app was great. And it's really helpful to see what you're truly eating...be truthful and track EVERY bite. When you see the dietitian, he or she can make suggestions based on what you're eating to help you lose the weight required pre-op. Good luck

    Vomited

This is why you need to measure/weigh your food and eat very, very slowly. Are you still on purees or are you on soft or full diet? It takes a few times to realize what satiated feels like, going slow will give you a bit more leeway so you don't vomit.

    Food Forever Gone

I'm only about 5 months post-op, but so far my experience has been a lot like @@LipstickLady ...a spoonful of anything too sugary doesn't agree with me at all. I used to love flan and creme brulee...now one small bite of creme brulee made me very nauseated and miserable. I haven't tried bread at all because 2 pieces of penne Pasta sent me to the bathroom, so lesson learned there. I don't want those things anymore, so my pre-surgery favorites aren't aligning with what I'm interested in post-op. I want vegetables and fruit, mostly, but I'm so limited on space that they only get marginal play. It's all about the Protein now and I can tell physically when I'm not doing well with protein. I don't really miss anything.
