Medications to help with food cravings?
Pazza replied to SoCalLeslie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think japeters had some great comments. There are counselors who specialize in eating. It could be a good course. I would also recommend a book called eating the moment. The exercises are the best part of the book. It helps me work through things and think about eating. Good luck and stay strong. You can do this. -
Glad the nausea passed! It is hard to know because it can be so different for so many people. That is part of why I like this app. It helps me to figure out some things and from people who have gone through this before me. Best of everything to you

How are you doing? Any better? Have you been able to talk with the dr? I dealt with really bad nausea for a while, still deal with it sometimes and I'm really sorry! Nausea meds can help. It might also be related to pain. I think some nausea is normal. Especially like another poster said, the stomach is having to relearn everything. Hang in there

Hi - I am 17 days post op, sleeved on May 9th. I know the topic is TMI but I need to ask. And I will contact surgeon tomorrow. So here goes,... Tonight, I noticed my urine was dark orange (more dark orange/brown towards bottom of bowl). In fact, I saw some of the darker parts falling to the bottom as I stood to check. I am concerned. For the day I drank at least 50oz of Water, just shy of my 64oz goal. For Protein I've been doing pretty well, but I know I could do better. What's also on my mind, is that I didn't have much of an urge to pee either after all I drank (and some of that was decaf tea). I did not have any colored foods (like beets or jell-o). I did have about 2 Tbsp of marinara. It had been 24hrs since my last Vitamin (and I opted to not take my Vitamins tonight so I could continue to monitor the color). I have NO fever or other symptoms (except for one of my incisions that hurts only when I bend - like the scab is coming off and tearing a bit). Doesn't seem related. Everything else seems ok. Thoughts? I will share what doctor/surgeon says after I speak to them tomorrow. Thanks!Hi! There are alot of reasons that could happen. Aleays best to check with the dr. Are/were you on a post op antibiotic? Did they use a cathader (sp) at any time when you were in the hospital? They are sometimes used during the operation but it isn't very common. I would ask the dr if you can take chewable Vitamin C. If it is the start of a UTI taking high doses of vitamin c can help. (It raises the acidity level of the urine which makes it a bad environment for the bacteria to grow.) Keep us updated!

Gross and TMI but I need to know if this is normal
Pazza posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My problem is this, whenever I poop I heave like I am going to vomit, sometimes I do. I thought it would get better but it isnt. I don't think it is dumping syndrome because I am very careful about what I eat. I am nauseated pretty much all of the time so I don't know if because I am nauseated, it is easy to push me over that edge. I know it hasn't been that long, do I just need to wait longer? Any advice? Background: I had the RNYGP on March 31st. First two weeks I was able to get in all of my liquids and 2 or 3 costco Protein drinks. One day my body just said nope! I couldn't keep them down or get them down. It was time to transition to real food. So my doc said to quit the Protein Drinks. Transitioning has been difficult and is not going well. I eat small amounts, 1/4 cup, and stick to what I'm allowed. I am transitioning very very slowly too. I have trouble getting 10 grams of protein a day. I do exercise, which can help with the nausea. Also digestion hurts, is that normal at first??? I pureed my food and still chewed it to make sure it was chewed enough. -
Mio has a Mio Fit line that has electrolytes and they have been a life saver for me. Once I was less dehydrated it was easier to keep fluids down. There are a lot of different flavors. You may like one better than another. Crystal light has some good flavors too but they don't have the electrolytes. Also, Swanson has flavored broths. They have a tortilla Soup flavor infused broth that you could try, if it sounds good. The other flavor infused broth I found had too much sugar in it. For me the broths had to be warm, otherwise I couldn't do it. Lots and lots of small sips. When can you have the sugar free Popsicles? One suggestion I remember was to get 4 2 oz shot glasses. Fill them up and drink one every 15 minutes. Refill them at the beginning of the next hour. Maybe breaking it down will help? Way to go in 20lbs!!! Hang in there.

Gross and TMI but I need to know if this is normal

Thanks for the ideas. I've talked with the dr. I got some anti nausea meds but because they knock me out I can only really use them at night. Sadly non of the other anti nausea meds do anything. ( I do take crushed up Dramamine which does help.) I am going to try ginger gum too. I have tried quite a few different Protein drink types. Isopoure, the milkshake one, eas, muscle milk etc. etc. Right now the only thing I can keep down are the pasteurized egg whites. Though to be honest I don't have much motivation to 'eat' anything. I know that I should but I am getting to the point of it being too much trouble. The thought of swallowing egg whites just, yuck. Yes, yes. I know how important it is to get in protein. The nausea is still pretty intense and I'm just going to try to keep moving forward through it. The buck up and hopefully in time it will calm down mentality. Thanks for the advice! -
I have a Fit Bit Charge HR and really like it. I wanted the Heart Rate function. I am not sure how accurate the calorie count is, I think it is exaggerated. It syncs well with multiple systems/apps. It is a good motivator for me to get up and moving.

Pazza replied to anitavee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If is any concelation there is a 6 or 8 week period where the baby is protected, especially from medicines. I am sorry this happened this way. It is going to be tough but it will be worth it. Keep us updated. -
