I've had a lot of the epidural injections, presurgery. They did certainly help me with putting on weight. The Lyrica did too. Just put on weight no matter what. Back issues can be frustrating. Not knowing what you are facing, I'd like to offer a few suggestions that have made a difference for me, in hopes that they might help you. (If you haven't tried them already and the doc approves.) Physical therapy- they might be able to target certain muscle areas to help TENS unit- electrical stimulation that feels weird but is a lot better than pain Inversion table - make sure doc gives the OK. I think it might be bad for certain back issues. Accupuncture - no joke on this one but you have to get a good one. Some just aren't worth the money. Patches - some people like icy hot. I prefer Salon pas- you can get them in a lot of places. Meditation - no the pain is not in your head. It just helps me keep calm and focus on life when the pain gets bad. If possible Water exercise helped me a ton. Good luck!

With RNY you have to be on acid reducers long term. It helps to prevent ulcers. It is a mild dose once daily but pretty important. My surgeon requires this of his sleeve patients too. I don't know if this answers your question about the medicines. A little bit about which procedure is right for you. My recommendation is to do some more research on the life after and long term effects of each surgery (Not that you haven't already been doing that! Cause you probably have been) I found some great books through the library. There might be something that helps you reach the best decision for you. I hope that helps. Best of luck!

HELP PLEASE! 15 y/o post op!
Pazza replied to JT Edmiston's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried taking lactase (brand name Lactaid) with your Protein drinks? I had a similar reaction to them and the lactase really helps. I just chew up the capsule or let it dissolve in my mouth as I drink the shake. Take it with or before your first gulp. It is the enzyme that helps to digest milk products. The surgery changes gut bacteria and some people have to take the enzyme for a little while after surgery. Good luck and keep us updated -

YOGA-I am a beginner any advice
Pazza replied to pdallariva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yoga can be wonderful. Definitely get the on from the doc if you are still on clear liquids. Typically when the instructor knows someone is a newbie they can be really helpful. Almost every instructor I've had has always been really helpful with offering suggestions for modifications to poses. Way to get out there! -

That would pop a happy bubble! Good luck getting back in the groove. -
I love people's responses! I think that is a fun clutch, it looks cute in the silver and the champagne colors. Too bad they don't have a pink to match those shoes. If you have a charming Charlie store nearby, that might be a place to check out. Their accessories are fun and don't break the bank. Way to go and hope you have a blast!

Sounds like dumping to me. Might want to avoid Pasta for a while. If I eat something that causes me to dump, the effects can last a little while. Feel better

People have given great advice, just one thing I would add. Try a lactaid or two with your Protein drink. (As long as you are drinking whey protein.) You can chew them. I keep it in my mouth and let it dissolve while I drink my shake. I personally take about 4 to 6 of them with one shake. It made a world of difference. I have always liked the chocolate Premier Protein shakes but shortly after surgery my body didn't! Someone on the boards recommend lactaid and bam I was back in business. Hope this helps and good luck!

If you are feeling ready for the surgery, I would go forward with it. School is tough but I feel like it would be doable with surgery. Do you have a good support system? If you need it, get accommodations for tests. For example if you normally can't eat or drink during tests, you can get a medical accommodation to be able to do that. On a cynical note, the weight loss may help you in the job search after you graduate. I know it is a bad thing to say but in my experience it has been true.

Amount of food @ 6 months Post Op....
Pazza replied to Thecloude1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Following. I'm approaching 4 months out and food reintegration has not gone well. So I'm still on a lot of Protein shakes but this is something I think about. Have you been able to talk with your dr about it? Do you keep track of calories or protein? If so, what does your daily amount look like? -
My recommendation is miralax. Miralax everyday. It is the gentlest, that I have found. The only problem is that it can take 12 to 24 hours to work, for me anyway. The problem is that the longer you are stopped up, the more you are going to be stopped up and backed up. I would say to use miralax for a week before considering stopping. Though I Am Not a dr. Good luck. It is no fun being constipated.

Hey there. I'm sorry you are feeling like this. I had really bad nausea for a long time too. The taste of the Protein might change after the nausea settles down. Some other users have given great questions about pain meds and gasx. With gas x you can get the liquid given to babies and that helps especially in the beginning. Dehydration can make nausea worse. So it becomes a cycle. Has your dr given you anti nausea meds? One thing that really helped me was crushing dramamine. Your dr has to clear you for it. They taste is extremely bitter! So it isn't fun to take but it helps. Also this is a really emotional time. I read that certain hormones are stored in fat and since you are burning that fat they are released. It can really mess worth a person. Give it time. Best of luck

I have a similar issue. I take a few lactaid pills with each protein drink. I keep them in my mouth to dissolve as I drink. It does the trick for me. Hope this helps.

Need Help With Working Out / Training - Clueless.
Pazza replied to Huntingnurse's topic in The Guys’ Room
Elliptical and Water aerobics are great low impact exercises. Gyms can be intimidating places, especially for men. But it can also be nice to have a dedicated space and time for exercise. As the others have suggested a trainer can be a great resource but not in everyone's budget. Spark people is a good site for beginners. They have videos that are good too. Fitness blender is another good site/app. You can customize what type of workouts you want. E.g. body weight exercises, dumbell, etc I would pick a simple set of exercises from the sites and give them a try for 2 to 4 weeks. 2 most important things are: be as consistent as possible and take it slowly! Building up takes time. Talk with your doctor. Best of luck!! -
@ Charley 27 How far out from surgery are you?

Forgot to say that egg face blog is helpful too.

It has been a struggle for me. Planning out Vitamins, as others have suggested, helps big time. Also planning out meals, like suggested. The biggest thing for me has been tracking it. I use the fit bit app but there are a lot of others. Spark people used to let users create daily goals, like taking vitamins. Tracking my Water and food really helps me! Trial and error. Not the fun thing. Let us know what works for you. Best of everything!

Need advice - luncheon Sunday - What do I do?
Pazza replied to healthier&happier4life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go and have fun! I can see how it could be tricky. I like the previous suggestions. I would add that, from my experience, generally if you draw attention to what you are or aren't eating, people pay more attention it. If you have focus on other topics, people pay less attention. -
How are you feeling after eating it? Your stomach/new gi tract. I like eating the pizza cheese sometimes. The other comments have been great. It is all about choices.

Higher calories break weight stall?
Pazza replied to juliawhatever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Way to go on the weight loss! That is terrific! I have read a lot of vsg patients talk about a stall at around 3 weeks out from the surgery. You could just be hitting that. I think it lasts 3 weeks but a vsg patient can correct me. I know when I stall, I hate it. But if I'm patient and keep doing the good things it breaks. Just keep swimming. P.s. Is this a weight you were at for a while before surgery? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App -
I'm 12 weeks our and still crave the bad stuff too. For some people those cravings go away right after surgery. Not for us though. I haven't really given into them either. As you keep not eating the yummy smelling but bad for you things, it gets easier. A friend from the support group suggested taking in the smell and really enjoying the aroma, letting that be enough. Like smelling flowers. This helps me. Hope it helps you. Best of everything Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App

I dealt with strong nausea for several weeks after the surgery. I'm sorry! A couple of things to try, as with everything ask your doc if this is ok for you. Ginger gum. Didn't help me much but it really does help some people. Dramamine - crush the pills and use the 4 hour ones. They are bitter, very bitter but they don't knock me out as much as Phenergan. (Zofran and reglan sadly do nothing for me. ) It could be pain related. Watch if the nausea spikes when the pain increases. If so, you might need pain meds. Take the Phenergan or Zofran at night to help you sleep better. Getting good sleep can help the next day be better. food or Water temp can affect nausea too. It is weird but before surgery I only did cold water but something about the cold now causes nausea. Try switching up flavors and smells. It was weird but for a few weeks my favorite mio fit flavor made me gag. So I had to stop using it. There is also a pressure point in the hand that helps pregnant women and morning sickness. I don't have the link but I'll try to find it for you. On that note strategies for morning sickness are usually a safe bet. Something else, mints help me with the nausea too. 3 wintergreen altoids have two grams of sugar. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!
