    For the ladies...

Any other birth control? I think this happens to a lot of women. Don't worry too much about it and track when it does come like Ronnie Rab said. 6 months out and mine are starting to get predictable again

    Sushi?

I like the no rice sushi and it is good Protein. I think it is called sashimi. Basically just the fish. I could have it at 4 weeks but am a bypass patient. Having different rules is frustrating.

    Exhausted....

Way to go! It can be difficult to do everything you are doing. Getting in all the fluids, Vitamins, walking, etc. I think it is probably normal. I was worn out really easily in the beginning. Keep doing what you are doing and I think you will feel better soon. Though I am only 6 months out and not a veteran or doctor. Does your doctor do a 2 month post surgery appointment? If yes and you aren't feeling better by then, bring it up. Best of luck!

It can be a process. Which have you tried and how would you rate them?
  5. I'm 6 months out and still have trouble when liquids are too cold. Try different temperatures. Good luck

    Strenth training for a beginner

Way to go! Keep sticking to your workout schedule. A sports psychical therapist can be a great resource. A couple of other resources I want to pass along are http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness_articles.asp?id=1033 - great description of strength training and discussion about different aspects of it. http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html - step by step instructions on how to do most exercises and a video with most of them PLaces with some helpful workout videos: https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos http://www.sparkpeople.tv/ Make sure to take it slow and the good news is you have time to develop a plan that works for you. Best of luck!

    Needing advice

It can be very frustrating. I can understand feeling like you haven't lost enough. Try to focus more on what you have been able to do and loose. E.g. focus on how you've changed habits, relationship with food, able to do more etc. I'm trying to focus on how much more I can do on the elliptical, how much more consistent I've become with exercise and self control. What is your routine like? Protein? Fluids? Exercise? Sometimes shaking up a workout can be the change needed.

    Flu Season is Coming

I understand people being afraid of mercury, it is a toxic element. However ethyl mercury, which is found in tiny amounts in some vaccines, is NOT mercury. It chemical make up is different and acts differently in the body. If one chooses not to get a flu shot, that is their choice. As for me, I'm all about them.
  11. Bufflehead had a good suggestion, I didn't know about that one! I like psychology today https://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/state/Maryland.html You can choose eating disorders or weight loss as a issues. You can choose the insurance too. After that, I called and asked them about their experience with weight loss surgery patients. Good luck
  12. So, Vitamins are important and it does get easier once you find a system that works for you. Iron was the most difficult for me to work in because I shouldn't take it within two hours before or after any calcium. Well everything I eat has calcium, so it made it difficult. It took a little while for me to figure out what works for me but now it is just habit. I do feel better when I get all my vitamins. Not as run down. In the long term, if your blood work come back good and your doctor says you can do just one multivitamin, that works too. This is what I do: I get up take my iron with two crackers and walk the dog right away. By the time I work out after walking the dog that gives me plenty of time in before any calcium. I do the rest throughout the day. (I eat the crackers because the iron really upsets my stomach and two crackers are the least I can get away with.) Best of luck! It took a little while for me to figure out what works for me but now it is just habit.

    Regretting Surgery!

5 weeks out and that much Protein. That is impressive. Took me a long time to be able to get in that much. Give it more time. It will come off. Keep doing the right things. 18 lbs is still a lot in just over a month

    Constipation

Yeah constipation is rough. Enemas are good. If you're really backed up urgent care or a colonic irrigation. Expensive and weird but it will clean you out. If you are really desperate Epsom salt as a laxative. Instructions usually on package but they are rough!! Feels like roto-rooter has been through. Add a little lemon or lime juice to help get it down. Drink as much Water as possible. Won't have to wait long. Miralax on a daily basis is great prevention. A lot of other people like benefiber, Metamucil, etc. Probiotics are popular too. Find what works for you. Remember not to take pills until cleared by your doctor.

    Meal delivery services

I cook for my husband who hasn't had WLS, I have had gastric bypass and am not yet back on to full foods. (reintegration has been really difficult, my system just doesn't like things.) We use home chef a couple of times a month. I have to say I like it a lot. There are good low carb options. He has liked a lot of the meals and I use the recipes on the weeks we skip. They have added good variety to what I cook. A lot of the dishes have good veggies and are nicely portioned. A little home chef tip if you do 2 meals, add on the fruit or the smoothies, which adds 10 dollars and then you don't have to pay the 10 shipping. Plus you get fruit or smoothie dessert.

    Gas pain

    Baby gas drops help too
  18. Lactaid/lactase can be your friend. I have kind of similar issues. Anything with whey protein gives me some distress. I buy the big box from Costco and that lasts me a while. They dissolve easily, or can be swallowed, providing one is at the pill swallow stage.

    Constantly Cold?

Getting Iron checked can be a good thing too! I was often cold before surgery and am still cold after! My secret is Cuddl Duds. The climate smart and active ones work really well for me. They are thin but still keep me warm. I can wear them under jeans, tops, just about anything. The have sleeveless tops, which are really nice. I use them in layering and they make my life a lot warmer. Links for them, though you can find them at Walmart, Kohls, Target, etc. http://www.cuddlduds.com/ https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_6?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=cuddle+duds&sprefix=cuddle%2Caps%2C145 Good luck!
  20. That sounds like a tough spot. Not there yet myself. Still have a lot to loose. Congratulations on your weightloss! I can totally understand being worried about creeping back up. You've worked hard to get it off. Might talking to a therapist help? Maybe changing up workout routine? Have you had an increase in stress or stressful events? You were strong enough to get yourself to this point and you are strong enough to keep going. Remind yourself of your strength.

    Apps

Like Lisa Mergs I am a fan of fit bit. Also syncs well with my fitness pal. I like Sparkpeople and fitness blender for workout ideas or helps.
  22. Miralax. Once daily. In my opinion, the gentlest one. Good luck
  23. My transition back to regular foods hasn't gone well so far, just taking longer for me. So I am excited to see what people post and get some good ideas. I really like the ideas you can find on this blog. You can also search eggface on pinterest and find her content. The ricotta bakes are good. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/p/links-resources.html

    Psych evaluation. Fail

While I do agree with a lot of the previous posts. It isn't a set back. Sometimes, we do need to deal with things before surgery. It can give us a better chance for our long term success. However, I want to share a little of my experience. My first psych eval was messed up!! I deal with chronic pain and the shrink felt, that in her opinion chronic pain doesn't cause depression. This is a false belief. Her reasoning was that because I deal with depression and haven't fully accepted physical limitations from an accident, I shouldn't have the surgery. At least not until I was at my 'ideal self'. I tried asking her what my 'ideal self' would look like and she couldn't explain anything. I then asked her what would be a 'healthy reaction' to waking up and finding ones legs not working (some of my physical imitations). She acknowledged that my coping mechanisms were good but felt that I shouldn't get upset when these things happen. Her version was a little like, sing kum ba ya, hug flowers and shine rainbows when I wake up and my legs don't work. I prefer to do the exercises and work I need to get my legs working again. Which can be a frustrating process and I'm allowed to be frustrated as long as I don't let it ruin my life or be nasty to other people. She wanted to see me for several months on a weekly basis before doing another psych eval. She was new to the area and I felt like she was just trying to build up a client base. I was upset about what she said and upset about being being denied. I felt like it was a set back but something was also wrong. I took some time to think about what she said and her diagnosis. I realized she was a little out of touch and her outlook didn't fit mine or my reality. I've been through a lot of therapy and some therapists just don't work out well. It could be that this therapist doesn't fit well for you. I went for a second opinion. The second eval was much more helpful and I did tell the therapist about the first eval. The second lady said that the eval is to make sure that a person understands the surgery, the lifelong consequences/changes and can reasonably handle the impact of the surgery. She did clear me for surgery but more importantly she actually listened to what I said and my experience. Plus she did understand that chronic pain is connected to depression. So it could be that there are some things you need to work on and it could be the therapist was just off. It is better to work on what you can before the surgery and it doesn't have to be a set back. Progress isn't always linear. Good luck!
