Hello all. I woke up today wondering... Have any of you ever had a suicide attempt in the past and told the psych about it during your evaluation. I have one suicide attempt when I was 15 and my nurse knows so I know I need to tell my psych when it's time for that evaluation...also I used to be a cutter and have scars on my arms etc. I'm worried that even if it was so many years ago when I did it if he will say I am not emotionally stable for surgery. Please someone let me know so I don't go crazy. This surgery is the only thing that keeps me going, I don't want to lose it all due to a stupid mistake I made 7 years ago.

I think I posted some of this wrong. I'm 22 and I weigh 416 pounds, I cant buy clothes anymore, i break furniture, I don't fit in chairs. I cant do anything I want to do, seatbelts don't fit anymore etc. This surgery will give me my life back and I'll be able to actually live again. The surgery isn't the only thing that actually keeps my going or knowing I can have it. It's the fact that I don't want to die at 22, 23, or a young age because I ended up not being albe to have the surgery because of stupid mistakes. Everytime I lose weight on my own I gain it back and then some no matter what I do. The band will help me actually keep it off to where I can be a healthier me and not worry so much about not waking up the next day or having a heart attack going up the steps.

things to do before your surgery
Froggi replied to DonniePyle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks there's something missing from this story. -
I found this post rather rude, I know I have to work hard and It's going to be a long battle. I'm just saying KNOWING that I can actually have this surgery is keeping me going and I don't want to have that taken away from me. I know the band is only a tool, the rest is up to me. I am not ignorant.:welldoneclap:

things to do before your surgery
Froggi replied to DonniePyle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When we learn about lapband they tell us a risk of it could be death. We all know this, not to sound mean but not many people die from this procedure and it isn't very nice to try and scare people into doing these things or not having the procedure done. Yes I am sorry for your loss but we already know the risks. -
ur What Tests Did You Need Pre-Op?
Froggi replied to Kat56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had bloodwork/ chest xray I need to do a psych evaluation, endoscopy, and EKG 2 weeks before surgery I'll be doing a diet with 2 Protein shakes a day (one Breakfast, one lunch) and a sensible dinner And for the insurance I'm doing a 6 month diet -
Thanks for this reply mstrina! I was really starting to worry and you made me feel a lot better. I know the band isn't a cure all and that I have to work, I am working hard as of now with this diet. I haven't felt bad about myself like I did back when I was younger ever, never have even thought about hurting myself again or anything. I know I can change my life and I want to change it for the best. I sure hope the psych they give me understands that. I'm all for a new WONDERFUL life.

oh also my reg psychatrist is too busy for a 3 hour evaluation the hospital is going to set me up with one of theres for my evaluation...I sure hope things go well...I'm scared.

I was 15 and I went to counseling for like 5 years. I am on depression meds and I see a pyschiatrist once every 3 months. I don't do counseling now but I talk to my psychiatrist. Do you think that helps? =/

Why must I be so impatient  I just started my 6 month diet a few days ago and I still have 5 1/2 months to go. I am frustrated. The diet is going well I have lost 3 pounds but I am just so impatient when it comes to the long wait to finally having surgery and having this diet be over. I think I am so frustrated because I weigh 416 pounds (started at 419) and I have a hard time fitting into chairs and such and not just that. I also barely fit into my clothes anymore (30/32) I can't find clothes to fit me and I only have one pair of jeans that truly feels comfortable. Being 22 and not being able to find clothes is horrible. I have never really had a life to begin with. I have been big since I was a baby. Everywhere I go people stare at me. I feel like the laughing stock of everyone. In school (highschool and college) I never fit in the desks and it's just hard. Sitting down on furniture (such as couches) I have to be really careful, the old couch we had broke (thanks to me ) and now we have a new one that we've had for like 3 months and It's already breaking some (a piece of wood in it snapped) I know I am losing and this is going to be a long journey, but I can't help but feel miserable at the same time. :frown: I am super-excited I started this journey in april, but it just seems like it's going to be forever before my actual surgery and I've always been very impatient. I just wish things went more quickly. I know I may seem careless with this post but I am just in one of those moods (we all have them) And I just wish I was further along in my process. I can't wait for the bandwagon to start moving more quickly and for my surgery to finally be here. October/November seems so far away. I am excited for it to finally be here though. Thank you so much for listening to my pathetic vent. I hope I don't seem too heartless.

Congrats! Hope your journey is a healthy and happy one. -
Hi Heather! A PB is a port block. It can happen if you eat too much or eat too big of bites etc. It can cause pain and nausea etc. You can have alochol after 1 year after surgery just not a lot, it's lots of calories. Recovery varies I'd say most is a couple of weeks but it all depends on the person. And the 6 month waiting period usually has to do with insurance. My insurance requires I do a diet for 6 months or they will not pay for the surgery.

Also ISmith, I just wanted to let you know your ticker isn't showing. It looks like you put the wrong coding.
-
Thanks so much you guys for all the positive comments. Made me feel some better. I'm still frustrated but I'm going to go at it day by day and hope it goes quickly like you all said. Thank you again, I really appreciate it. The 6 months should help me learn a lot more so I don't have so many more compliations and such when surgery does finally come around! I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!

I think that all doctor's offices are different when it comes to the psych evaluation lol. I am still waiting for mine but like I said my nurse told me 3 hours. (ugh) lol
-
Mine is going to be 3 hours too. NO idea why it's so long but that's what I was told. It's sucky. Lol
-
My doctor requires an overnight stay. I think it's better to stay overnight anyway. Wish you luck!

First Consultation & Overwhelmed
Froggi replied to SamieTeacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance requires a 6 month diet and psych evaluation nothing about 5 years history though. I guess because I've been big my whole life I dunno. Maybe also cause my bmi is 61 either way it's hard waiting but I hope it goes quickly. 5 and a half months to go !! good luck to you and your husband -
Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
Froggi replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions

What kind of questions should I ask?
Froggi replied to Sarah.R's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should ask questions like how does it work...how many surgeries has the doctor done, food questions, prices/insurance tests and nutritional stuff. There's lots of things you should ask.
