  1. I went into the ER wearing a cloth gown and the mesh undies that the hospital gave me along with a pad (I am a heavy bleeder). I'm not sure if they only gave them to me because I was on my period or if they give them to everyone but I woke up wearing the same cloth gown and the same (annoyingly small) mesh undies.
  2. Was there a specific reason why you needed one or was that planned pre surgery? My surgical clinic uses one for one week on every patient. It's very uncomfortable and is slowing down my recovery ( in my opinion). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Interesting. Most of the info/posts I have read tell you they don't use a tube unless there is a lot of Fluid buildup and they need to. Guess that just goes to show how different each surgeon is.
  3. Your supervisor sounds like a jerk and very immature. Grade school personality. I wouldn't let it bother you. Just remember that this surgery is for YOU not them. If you don't want to share then it's really none of his business.

    NSAID's after Gastric Sleeve?

I asked my surgeon about this because it was on the pre-op quiz I had to take before surgery. I left that one blank and he said "actually you can have NSAIDS with the sleeve" and I would assume in the way he said it that it is not ok for some of the other procedures. Of course this is MY surgeon and yours may be different. I will still be avoiding them if possible but you can bet your bottom dollar that if I get a bad migraine I will be taking some NSAIDS!
  6. I did not. My incisions are very small (less than an inch each) and they are stitched closed with dissolvable stitches and covered in a type of glue. No drains. Not saying it's the same for everyone since some surgeons are different but so far this is the most common way I've seen.

    PCOS and hypothyroidism

I asked a similar question awhile back. I don't have hypothyroidism but I do have PCOS. Here is a link to the post I made so you can see some of the comments: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/367378-pcos-success-stories/

    Getting frustrated

So I talked to my surgeon and told him I'm getting less than 200 calories a day. He said he wouldn't worry about calories right now and just focus on staying hydrated and protein. He said the soups that you guys suggested are probably ok but everything else is not and to stick to the book I was given. I can't stand most things from the book anymore but I will stick too it. I'm nothing if I'm not stubborn so I will deal with it till I get to the next phase.

    Drinking

I've been able to gulp my drinks since day 2 (when I was in the hospital I was not ALLOWED to drink anything). I would NOT be able to chug something but I can take decent sized gulps of water just fine. I do feel the drink/food go down and sometimes it's uncomfortable whether I sip or not. Makes absolutely no difference on the size of the sip.

Definitely beats the heck out of broth! My fiance laughed and said "you might as well have just had chicken broth!" I was like "not the same, trust me!"

    Getting frustrated

Well I tried to ask my NUT but she was having a family emergency so I'm winging it and I went ahead and made some chicken noodle soup (regular kind) that I strained and mixed in some protein powder. It is quite delicious! Not sure if I'm supposed to have it or not but it's good and I need to eat. Also, the Isopure is still doable so that is also another option for protein. Hopefully I will find more things that I can tolerate but I thought I would update if anyone else is having this issue.

    One Week Post-op - Hungry!

Yes it was! Very early morning.

    One Week Post-op - Hungry!

It sounds like gas to me. I have had it since the first few ice chips I had in the hospital on day 2. Almost sounds like your stomach is growling and I also get what I call the "dry burps" that I used to associate with having an empty stomach and being hungry but it's actually just gas. I personally also get that way (bubbling and gassy) during and/or after I'm eating anything. For me, most of the pain I've had post op is also from gas. I got pains just below my ribs which is worse in the morning after laying in bed all night. I'm now on day 8 (including surgery day) and the gas has calmed down quite a bit as well as the below-rib pains so it DOES get better. Maybe try some GasX thin strips. They do help some.

    Getting frustrated

Very much so! At least for me so far. I am really hoping that I won't hate some of the foods that I used to love. Right now it seems more simple food is what I'm able to eat without being absolutely repulsed. I LOVED mushrooms pre-op. I'd eat them in Soup, noodles, pizza, spaghetti, pot roast and just about anything you could think to put mushrooms in but the other night I barely tasted my cream of mushroom soup just to make sure it wasn't too hot and it was a WHOLE new ball game. I was ready to hurl from the mushroom taste! Cream Soups in general seem to be touch and go. I can't stand the cream of broccoli soup either =/. I'm hoping that it may pass with time and recovery and it's just a phase I'm in. I don't feel hungry but I have to eat something and the list of acceptable things to eat are growing shorter. It's hard to get even half of my recommended Protein in when eating only the things I'm allowed. Thank you all for the suggestions! I wrote them all down to ask the surgeon and see if he will give me some leeway. Right now I'm not really worried about "going back to my old ways" because at this point I'm only eating to try and reach my protein and Water goals but the diet I'm on is making it impossible at least in this phase. It will be easier once I am able to add in meat and cheese I think.

    Getting frustrated

Isopure and Nectar were the only ones I could tolerate before but I know a lot of the fruity Nectar mixes I'm now disliking to the point of gagging. I'm not sure why, I'm not normally one to gag on any kind of food or drink even if I don't like it but now some things just have a weird taste that I never tasted in them pre-op. I couldn't even really taste the protein in Nectar fruity mixes and now I struggle to even take a sip. I will try the Isopure again and hope that I can stick with that one. I had a fall on a concrete driveway the night before my surgery and the glass bottle smashed right next to my face and I am still recovering from having my butt kicked so I haven't touched a bottle since LOL. I will try again today.
  16. I am now 4 days post op but while I was in the hospital I had the dry heaves and nausea. My mom and sister talked on the phone and my mom told her I was nauseous. She said "Well get used to that! It'll be like that from now on!" (She is a nurse by the way). Of course I'm nauseous! I just had a large chunk of my stomach removed and I'm on meds and just came out of anesthesia! Doesn't mean I'll be this way FOREVER!
  17. Never been a fan of bacon or pork in general really unless it was smothered in syrup or BBQ (I know I know) but I won't miss it if I never have it again. Now if I didn't still love seafood, THAT would be a huge disappointment! I'm only 3 days post op so I'm hoping that I will still be able to enjoy seafood. Something that I've actually been thinking about that I NEVER crave is chicken.... I've never been big on chicken (or pork of course) especially unbreaded chicken but I'm looking forward to something OTHER than Jello, Soup and Protein shakes and unbreaded chicken comes to mind quite often now. Not sure why that is. Very odd for sure.
  18. I am guessing this is normal but I feel a lot of pressure and/or bubbles moving through. Hard to explain but I'm guessing this is gas. How long until this goes away? It hurts under my ribs and it happens whenever it wants to but especially after a drink or eating jello.
  19. I know this may be a stretch and maybe it is too personal for some to share, but I'm curious to know if anyone that has been diagnosed with PCOS has had success with Gastric Sleeve? How much of a difference do you see in your weight / skin / hair (loss and growth)? Mostly interested in the weight but also curious to see if I should expect any other changes? Thanks so much for those willing to share!

    PCOS success stories?

Awesome! Thank you gals! Those were the type of posts I was looking for. I do hope the weight will come off like it did for both of you. I don't mind if it comes off slow as long as it comes off! Moving the scale in the opposite direction is beyond awesome for me so I'm excited! I don't have any noticeable hair loss on my head but you can definitely tell that I lose more than a fair amount every time I shower. Luckily, I still have pretty thick hair to make up for the loss. I was worried it might be worse for me since it is a common symptom of PCOS even if it's not showing too badly NOW. When I asked my nutritionist she said that it grows back for other people (which I'm fine with) but I wanted some input from people who also have PCOS on if they had any issues getting it to grow back. As far as the hair in other places... well, I've been dealing with it this long so at least you didn't say it got worse lol. Monthly cycle leveling out would be a huge bonus too since right now I'm all over the place and I get pretty worried sometimes with how heavy it can be and how long it lasts (sometimes I even get two in a month).
  21. What did you guys use to puree your Soup in the pre op liquid stage? My blender is not getting the job done . Not that I can blame it.... that thing is ancient!
  22. Lizardlady

    Best blender for puree?

Did you really mean "pre-op"......I haven't heard of any pre-op diets that allowed pureed soup. I'm assuming you mean post-op? Nope, I'm allowed 97-98% fat free cream Soups on my pre-op diet. Campbell's cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soup for example. I know everyone's surgeon is different. Mine just happens to let us have certain soups as long as they are pureed thankfully! I did end up buying the Nutri Ninja Auto IQ and it works awesome so thank you to Andrea72! Also a big thank you to everyone that gave their recommendations. It gave me a lot of options to choose from!
  23. I probably would have had problems too if they didn't put me in twilight for mine. I wasn't for sure when I went in if they were going to or not because reading online I guess they usually don't? I'm not sure why some do and some don't but I'm glad they did with me. I don't remember a thing other than them gassing me and waking up with a tingle in my throat and feeling really happy there for a bit after .
  24. Ok so this question actually originated from another person's post asking about what people are eating several years out from surgery. I saw some were eating pretty large amounts of carbs compared to what my nutritionist had told me which was less than 40g of carbs per day FOREVER. Several people commented that they didn't think 40g of carbs was even possible or healthy, at least not later on so I was thinking I could get some feedback on this here rather than derail someone elses thread. "Less than 40g of carbs" is written in my book that was given to me as a guide for success. It is written as a goal under the column for "7 Days Before Surgery" along with 70-80g of Protein per day. However, she made emphasis on the "less than" with the carbs and also said that it really should be forever and I took note in my book when she said so. She had Gastric Bypass herself so I'm not sure if gastric bypass patients maybe just have different nutrition needs than sleeve? Also, I'm wondering if it's possible to keep my surgeon without keeping his nutritionist? I'm not sure yet that I want to do that, she seems like a nice lady and wants to get people on track and stay there but I feel like it's something that I need to know before I get the surgery done which is supposed to be tomorrow (although there has been a small hiccup so we'll see).
  25. I'm still very new to this but I can only tell you what I know from what I've been through so far so here it goes... 1) I had 2 nutritionists. The first one was just to go over the basics and make sure that I had some basic knowledge of nutrition but I will never have to see that one again. She has nothing to do with the surgeon but I was required to see her anyway. The other nutritionist is one that works under my surgeon and she is the one that I go to now if I have any questions/concerns about my nutrition. 2) The reason your nutritionist said "no distractions" is because when we are sitting there watching a movie/show then we don't really pay attention to our food and just shovel it in. One minute you have a full bag of popcorn and the next minute it's gone and you don't even remember eating it all. Just has something to do with our brain. If we are focused on only our food, we are more aware of how much we are eating and how fast we are eating it. 3) My nutritionists both recommended Premier shakes OR shakes/mixes that are for bariatric patients because they are lower in sugar and higher in the things we need. The other brands tend to be pretty high in sugar (Special K for instance).
