the first referral I got ended up being a Dr that my insurance didn't cover, ( even though the insurance was the one that sent the authorization for said Dr)...it took another 2 months for me to get an authorization for another Dr. Hang in there, I swear they do this ish on purpose to discourage people from getting surgery. Post op and diabetes
MRSKLUCERO replied to bigmoe99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had type 2 for 20+ years. Preop I was taking 145u a day of lantus, 20-45u at each meal of novolog, 25mg a day of jardiance and once weekly injection of trulicity. My pre op A1c was 6.3, I am one month post op now. I am still taking the jardiance and novolog, my sugars have been running higher than I would like so I may need to reevaluate my meds. But at this point I'm goingglad to at least have cut out 2 of the 4 meds I was taking and hope that with more weight loss I will be able to decrease further, although it is very likely that I will always need some meds for my bs. -
Coffee or no in the beginning ? Surgeon and nutritionist disagree
MRSKLUCERO replied to Sheriberi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems to be some differing opinions on the coffee issue, my nut says no caffeine, so decaf coffee is ok, but not reg. -

Isopure ready-made protein drinks
MRSKLUCERO replied to Jennifree's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
About 2 weeks post op everything sweet was making me sick...found it was because I was in ketosis. All I could drink was Water with lemon/lime squeezed in and a little salt added. Once things got balanced back out I could do my Protein drinks again, but still tasting much sweeter to me now than they did before. Sent from my HTC D816h using the BariatricPal App -
I have had type 2 diabetes for over 20 years. I was taking 4 different medications to control it, including very high doses of insulin. My surgeon told me straight off that it was very likely because of the length of time I have had diabetes and amount of medications I took that I would still need some medication after surgery. I am only 3 weeks postoperative now, I am still taking one pill a day and some meal time insulin. It is likely that once closer to my goal weight I will be able to decrease or even eliminate these meds, but it is a process and only time will tell. Sent from my HTC D816h using the BariatricPal App

Isopure ready-made protein drinks
MRSKLUCERO replied to Jennifree's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I bought a 6 pack of them from Bariatric Advantage. I drank one and the taste was so bad I haven't touched the other 5. I bought a variety of Protein Drink mixes through them and have liked most of them. The liquid concentrates mix nicely and have had a great taste. I like the pomegranate flavor by ProtiDiet. (Also from BA) if you're s coffee drinker they have a delicious creamy tasting Cappaccino amaretto Protein drink mix. Most of them are 15g of protein per packet, great for in-between meals. Tell me a story about your long preop process?
MRSKLUCERO replied to Katrinakit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It took me 2 1/2 years to get my surgery...my pcp sent me to the nut (of course it took a couple months to get the referral and appt). I was required to do 6 months of nutritional counceling, because of scheduling issues it took 9 months to complete. Then the pcp told me I had to get psych clearance. That took another 3 months of visits and 2 more months to finally get the letter from the psych. By this time my insurance said I had to go back to nut counseling because it had been too long since I completed it...so another 6 months. Once that was done it took a few months to get the authorization to see a surgeon. As soon as I got the authorization I called for an appt., but of course I had to go to an orientation of type of meeting before I could actually meet with the surgeon. The next orientation was about a month out...I went, tried to schedule my appt only to be told that my insurance was not accepted by this surgeon( mind you the referral came from my insurance)...so back to the pcp to get a new authorization. Couple more months passed...Got my authorization, scheduled an appt. The surgeon said straight away that I was a great candidate for surgery, buuuut, I would need to get a sleep study first and clearance from cardio since I had previously had heart surgery. This process took about 3 more months. from there it took another 3 months for my insurance to approve the surgery and get a date scheduled. I did have to do a few more last minute tests, but nothing big, just an ekg, chest xray and some blood work. I finally got my surgery on 3/31/16, I'm 3 weeks postoperative and doing pretty well. I have had some minor dehydration issues, but otherwise doing great. I started out at a high weight of 265, by the time I met with the surgeon I was at 254, and the day before surgery I was at 238, at my first post-op appt. I was down to 216(-12lbs in 2weeks). The process can be long, frustrating and discouraging, but if this is something you really want you have to keep pushing forward. Best of luck to you! Hang in there! All natural or organic vitamins anyone?
MRSKLUCERO replied to mytwopugs's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Look into the zarbees brand of chewable vitamins, I believe they only use honey as a sweetener. Sent from my HTC D816h using the BariatricPal App -
It took me 2 1/2 years to get my surgery approved. Just keep on top of the Doctors and insurance and don't let it get you discouraged. Sent from my HTC D816h using the BariatricPal App
