Hi all, I stumbled across this forum last week, and have had an absolute blast reading all of your threads, they have been really informative and i now know a little more of what i am to expect. I am being banded on March 17th and have been on Optifast for 5 days now. I started well, but am unfortunatly already thinking about slipping :tt2:...Does anyone have any tips as to how to avoid 'tempation', so to speak! Also, just went out and bought a 21 pack of the vanilla shakes...and cant stand them! Does anyone have any tips as to how to make them, or any of the foods for that matter, a little more interesting, because at the moment I am barely managing to get through my 'sludge'! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Perth people, where are you?
aus_girl_1289 replied to Fanny Adams's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi guys! I feel I need to re-introduce myself! I was banded in March of 2008, and was doing so so well, but had some huge stuff happen at the end of 2008 which caused me to basically give up on all of this because it wasn't my priority... But I'm back now! I have only lost 25kgs since surgery..but am back on track!! You'll all be seeing a heap more of me and I hope youre all ready to be bombarded with a bunch of stupid questions :tongue2: -Danni -
Hi all, Well its been exactly one month since my surgery today! What a journey!! I've been feeling a little down recently, not really feeling the results...but i saw the photos today and im in a whole new place! Take care! -Danni BEFORE ONE MONTH ON

Hey all, I weighed myself for the first time today since i started Optifast (which was a week and a half ago...) and ive only lost about 1.5 kilos...is this normal?? i just feel like i should have lost alot more than that because ive heard alot on here about people losing 15kg plus? I feel almost cheated! ive been working my bum off this week! Will my doctor be dissapointed?? Will i still be able to have surgery??

Hey guys... Went for my first fill today, I was all excited and as you can probably tell, it didnt go all that well  The doctor said that he was worried at how much i was vomiting and the amount of different foods that were getting stuck (i thought all of this was normal post op but apprently not...) so he wants me to wait a little while and make sure all of this stops before he fills my band. :tt2: I'm really dissapointed because i was really looking forward to my first fill, and my next phase of banding, but now i have to wait another two weeks, and if its still not better by then, i have to wait ANOTHER 4 weeks, (because the doc is going on hols:rolleyes2:).... Plus im sooo hungry atm....a think a fill would have come in handy! *sighs* oh well, not to worry!

hey all!! Thanks very much for all your kind words :rolleyes2: The doctor too thought at firs tthat i was eating too much/ wrong foods/ too quickly...but i assured him that i am eating 1 cup of food three times a day as directed by my dietitian, and he said that was small meals so that wasnt it. I took it upon myself (which probably wasnt a good thing to do anyway..) to not move on to the next stage, which is solids because i honestly didnt think i was ready for them...i mean my mushies are quite firm, but im not eating whole chicken or anything like that yet...My diet primarly consists of Yogurt and maybe some grapes in the morning...Lunch is generally fish and mashed sweet potato, and then dinner is generally fish again, or chicken mince, with mashed potato or Pasta...At the moment im struggling to eat things like tomato, carrot, egg, rice (which was expected) umm chicken...but mostly carrot for some bizarre reason... I think i was just in a bad mood after that appt. I realise now that he has done it for a reason, and thanks again for all your support!!!

Reassuring to know there are teens on here.....
aus_girl_1289 replied to Sarah.R's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Its probably not the case of 'nobody bothering to reply'. I dont know what it said but it is reassuring to have other teens to talk to. I'm sure that plenty of people read what you had to say and agreed with you. There are thousands of posts to read on here. No need to get upset if you dont get a reply. Man, if i got upset everytime i posted and wasnt answered, ide be a very sad little girl -
One month in...photos included!
aus_girl_1289 replied to aus_girl_1289's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Haha! Believe it or not...me too!! I bought the brown one initially, and loved it so much i went back for the teal one about a week later!!! And Nat, i know how you feel yet again. I was feeling like that, my best friends and their parent saw me after about 3 weeks (because they wanted to wait as long as possible, so they could see a more dramatic change ) and they all said i looked really good, but i thought they were just sorta saying it...but then i was at my old work the other day and o3 of the girls there said i was looking really good, and thats when i sorta realised because i hadnt told any of them so they wouldnt have known... But again, thanks heaps for allyour kind words!!!!! :frown: -

i still feel like that nat. I'm pretty sure we were banded withing a couple of days of each other for memory... But i defiinatly get what your saying. People i havnt seen in a while say i look good, but i just dont see it. I think its because i have a fair amount to lose, so it still seems like there is so far to go, plus i was this weight not that long ago (about 8 months ago) so it doesnt feel that different.... but thanks heaps for both of your kind words! -
Would it hurt if my band slipped??
aus_girl_1289 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys, Im about 10 days post op and im a little worried... I went for a long walk this arvo and forgot my Water bottle. When i got back i completly forgot i had the bad on and sculled close to a full bottle of water (close to 600ml!). It didnt hurt at all afterwards and there was no vomiting or anything. Would it be painful if my band slipped? Have a ruined everything?! -
they are all great!!!!!! you know, its nice to know its not just me! i cant think of anything at the moment! but i know there have been times where i just want to curl up into a ball and die, or at ayounger age, had spent many hours crying over... I must admit though...I swear that our local movie cinema was built by one of the Olson twins or something!! The seats are unbearable!!! i thought it was just me, so nautrally never said anything...just squidged me way in and got over it. But, when my much smalled best friend made comment on the small chairs, i was shocked! If they annoyed her..only knows what they were doing to me!!!!

haha well i second that....and i wouldnt worry about offending other blondes...it took me a good day or so to work out what LB was!!! haha got that one down pat now though! -
wow! 16! thats amazing. I contemplated LB a couple of years ago (i turned 18 back in june), but no doctor who touch me with a ten foot pole...anyway...i went and saw a fantastic doctor back in november, who spoke to me and sent me away to think about it (and get the funds together!). I went back in late Feb and was banded 17th March...its the best thing i think i could have done, and so far...am very happy with the outcome!!

Itchy scratchy incisions?
aus_girl_1289 replied to Mom2_4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i thought it was just me!! I have been soooo itchy! ive scratched so much during my sleep that ive broken the skin!!...i told the doc and he said as much as it itches, to really try and refrain from scratching for two reasons.... First of all my wounds were glued back together, and it could weaken the glue. Secondly, you carry sooo much bacteria under your nails, and you dont want to introduce that to the incision site!! -
Just thought i would fill you all in on my very busy night!! (Plus ask a few questions!) Last night i was lying there watching tv, minding my own buisness, when i moved oh-so slightly and pop went my main suture line!! Let me tell you, it was quite a shock to look down and see a gaping hole in my stomach!! Went tearing down to our local hospital (which for Perth people, was Peel...and you know their reputation!!), walked in and there was a waiting room full of people...probably about 15 people waiting to be seen. We got in the line to see the triage nurse, and the woman in front of us told us she had been waiting 45 minutes, just to let the triage nurse that she was here!! There was people with broken arms, and cuts all over their faces that still hadnt been seen, so we knew we had no chance! We thought about it for a bit, and decided to take our chances by driving to the next closest hospital (which was Rockingham). We walked in and there was not a single person in the waiting room! Anyway, we saw the doctor, and she was very surprised that i never got any stitches at all?? All 5 of my wounds were glued back together, and there was no stitches is sight...did anybody else have glue instead of stitches? and has anybody else had their wound breakdown? Basically she said that there was no use suturing it back together now, so she just steri-stripped it back together and said to get alot of rest, and not get up unless totally nessacary (i'm on the laptop now, it's what has kept me sane post op!!) So, basically im back to square one now! Even longer until i can start up my exercise again!!

WOW! Congrats to both Josh and thinner-or-bust! You both looks amazing!! I went for my very first "way-in" with my doctor today - 8 days post op...14.8 kgs lighter!!!! So stoked!!

Hey, i was banded on the 17th and a couple of days after i did have hunger pains, but luckily my dietician warned me about it before hand. She said that there was one of two things that it could be. First of all it could really just be head hunger. Maybe try having your allocated amount of Water and reading a book or something to stop thinking about it... Also, she did say that sometimes you can really feel hungry, but its just your band settling in and your stomach getting use to it. Mine still grumbles ALOT even if im not hungry!:sneaky: Remember you have jelly and diet cordials there, or sometimes a warm cup of tea works well too!:biggrin2: Good luck!

hey all! Just an update. I called the doctor yesterday and spoke to the receptionist, who then spoke to the doctor. He was quite concerned so they made me an appointment for today. I have just gotten home and he said that there is nothing to worry about, all is looking good (even though it hasnt closed yet, and im still a little squeemy to look at it! ) but all looks fine! Plus, he weighed me! and im 15 kilos lighter!! yay!!!! :sneaky:

Hey all, I'm 8 days post-op, and ive been told by the dietitian that i need to be drinking about 2 litres of Water and 1 litre of 'nourishing fluids' (soups and whatnot) but i am really really stuggling to get through it all? I'm just not hungry at all. I eat because i have to, because recently ive been really really tired and weak, but im worried that if im not hungry that im just streching my pouch, and im petrified of doing something wrong. Did anyone else have this post-op? Does it go away?

Last meal before liquid diet?
aus_girl_1289 replied to Needol's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never got a chance to have a 'fast supper' so to speak. I went to my doctor on a Monday afternoon (left dinner cooking in the slow cooker, because it takes a while to get back home), and the doc booked by surgery in for a month down the track, which meant i was to start my liquid diet the next day! I seriously contemplated giving the casserole to the dog and going out for a nice meal, but it seemed like a waste, so red wine casserole it was!!
