    Liquids just not doing it

Cream based Soups really helped me. Jello and of yogurt also, if you are allowed. It is a liquid, but a bit more solid. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I have been very dehydrated since surgery. I am on a diuretic for acne. I have just finally started to get enough salt and be able to drink enough to be less dehydrated. If you are in the heat, you may need extra salt and a lot of fluids. Consult with your physician/surgeon, but some people take salt pills if the bloodwork is showing low sodium or potassium. My post op diet has so much less salt, so I need to make sure to eat salty things to compensate. Coconut Water can be dehydrating possibly if you drink too much. Surgery scares!

One thing to keep in mind, many years ago some doctors were performing wls who didn't have the experience. Risks were higher. Then changes were made to the system so that only properly trained, experienced doctors perform the surgeries. Today, wls had been perfected. The risks and complication rates are lower than ever. Yeah, there is a chance something might go wrong, but it is pretty small, and even if you do have a complication, most will be resolved without long term consequences. The risk of complications from morbid obesity is higher than the risk of surgery. The surgey itself, performed by a qualified surgeon, is as risky (or less risky) then other routine procedures like knee replacement or gall bladder surgery. Vacation

That is a pretty good point. Flying and surgery both increase the risk of blood clots. Hopefully the surgeon the op with let her surgeon know. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  7. At that point I ate mainly shakes, refried Beans (Taco Bell pintos and cheese) plain kefir, low sugar yogurt, hard boiled eggs, hummus, cheese, Avocado, and puréed or cream based Soups or broth. I was still getting the hang of meats, veggies and scrambled eggs. I was able to eat a few crackers at this point, but I try to limit them. Anything harder than the very soft stuff could make me sick or cause pain. It was a time of transition. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-Op Weight

I wasn't given a goal, and gained maybe 5-10 pounds, but lost all of it during my 7 day pre op diet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What did I do to myself?

Watch sugar alcohols. "Sugar free" stuff has it, and they can cause stomach issues. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What did I do to myself?

It can be a reaction to the swallow test contrast solution. Also, some of the other meds they give like antibiotics, but especially the contrast if you have a swallow test. Also, the first week I was pretty sensitive to any fat. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Raw carrots are EVIL! Beware!

Yeah. I had a bad time with celery, although my nutritionist was doubtful that it was dumping. I have been avoiding celery, asparagus, and I was considering carrots, but so far thought better of it. The celery, which I ate a decent amount of (I really craved it) caused severe cramps, dizziness and a laxative effect after 12 hours after my am caffeine/shake until my system seemed to purge itself and also I took something to calm my stomach. Also, I ate cooked, not puréed pinto Beans my first month and they felt like I ate gravel. At this point other veggies seem fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Coffee after Sleeve...

My am coffee is blending into my morning shake. In addition, Starbucks flat white/latte has about 9-12 grams of protein, although it also has some sugar from the milk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What did I do to myself?

I remember being in so much pain and discomfort after surgery. Not knowing when I was going to feel better was really hard. It took my about quite a few hours to start feeling like I wasn't going to die. Maybe 12 hours after surgery I started improving a lot, and kept feeling better as time went on. 15. I am glad I didn't have to go through all this, so everyone has my sympathies. I guess it is supposed to be in your best interest, and honestly I do all those things: see my nutritionist, attend support groups, therapy, etc. Personally, it sounds like a lot of BS as surgery is supposed to help diabetes, but I don't know how much an a1c level correlates with personal responsibility and choices, but I am not diabetic and was not pre-diabetic. I think I had it pretty easy with the whole process, but I already had a lap band removed a few years ago so maybe that helped. I definitely pushed for surgery while I was under my current plan, which is pretty good, but runs out soon. It is so weird, because I thought a high a1c would be better for the insurance qualifications. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Coffee after Sleeve...

I have coffee, and a lot of coffee, starting on week 1. My gastroenterologist actually recommended coffee daily for me. I think it does have a diuretic effect, but not so much compared to the actual diuretics I have to take. Coffee is really good for the liver, so I make sure to drink a few cups daily. I also take my PPI, as directed. When I was still early pre op I started with caffeinated crystal light and tea, in smaller amounts, and then worked up to my current consumption. 19. I had a few food funerals. In the big scheme of things, I have no regrets. I was 100% faithful to my pre op diet, which was only 10 days. I have been following all the dietary suggestions post op to the best of my ability, I track all my foods and meet with me nutritionist. I have committed to the changes necessary to be successful. I was very mindful of those "funeral" meals, whereas most other meals in the months leading to my surgery I have no memory of. I had pizza one day, Indian food another and a excellent 7 course dinner with friends. I am glad I got all the closure. I mean, I won't be able to eat sweets or foods like that again, maybe ever for many of them, and I am fine with that. I just wish I had creme brûlée one last time. 21. NJ direct here. They told me on the phone I needed 6-12 months. My surgery was actually scheduled within about 3 months of my initial consult. The sooner you go to a seminar/get a consult, the better. The person I spoke to was mis-informed apparently. I only needed a psych and nutritionist report. Withdrawals [emoji15]

Actually opiates are sedating, but they also have an impact on the dopamine system, so they have stimulant qualities as well. A lot of people get energy from opiates, especially depressed people. Actually, some opiates have been used as anti-depressants. They are not like alcohol:downers because the primary neurotransmitter targeted (GABA) is different, but opiates can cause sedation, euphoria and other effects but differently than alcohol or benzodiazepines. I mean, I guess people call them downers sometimes, but it isn't very scientific. It is possibly to get withdrawal symptoms after 2-3 weeks of continuous use. Depression can rebound after stopping opiates. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I can meet my protein goal of about 70 grams most days. I don't have a lot of restriction compared to some, and I usually get about 20-30 grams from a morning shake. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

mild sleep apnea - I'm pissed

My sleep apnea test was below 10, like 4 I think. I never had any issues, and I still suspicious my snoring cat contributed to the readings. My PCP tried to get me to purchased a cpap, but my pulmunologist who is also a sleep specialist said there was no reason to. My score was too low. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App lol, you think the cat contributed. I'm blaming my toddler and infant for waking me up. lol Yeah, I have a bunch of cats and I probably should have slept in a bedroom, but I slept on the couch and woke up with my snoring cat on my chest. She always snores, even when she is awake Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

If it is severe enough you can have a lot of issues with anesthesia and pain medicine. It is best to talk to a sleep specialist because some doctors aren't great at interpreting results and CPAP isn't usually necessary for mild results. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
