Just wondering if this has worked for anyone? I need to 'reset' myself.
-
Hi all. I have been banded for 4 years now. I have had reconstructive surgery to remove excess skin and at that time my port was put back into place, etc by the plastic surgeon. I have had no problems with soreness where my port is (other than when getting a fill). The last two days, my port site is VERY sore. I can't even run my hand over it (I have a very moveable port that is close to the top layer of skin, so you can really easily feel it). Even when I walk and the skin moves over it, it really hurts. Ay ideas why this would come up out of nowhere? Never had anything like this before.

Has anyone done the 5 day pouch test/reset?
keona replied to keona's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the responses. One question. For day one and two it's basically all liquid (protein shakes, broths, etc). Day three is adding back soft protein and so on. Do you still consume the liquid by way of protein shakes or do you just eat solids only? That was the one question I had when reading about the pouch test. Any help/advice/etc appreciated. -
I have been banded since 2010 and have lost over 100lbs. I have a 10cc band which was comfortable set at 5.8cc with great success. Last summer I got sick and had to have an un-fill. One we started filling back up again, I had gained 20lbs I have been set now back at 5.8cc but I don't feel the same level of restriction as before and it takes more food to keep me satisfied. I have heard of this happening. I am going for another fill in a month (earliest I can get in). And am wondering how much to have put in. My surgeon (who lives quite far away) set me up with a more local doctor to do my fills for me so I am kind of on my own when it comes to how much to put in. Any thoughts. I am scared to put too much in and then have to wait 2-4 weeks for unfill. I was thinking 0.2cc but wondering if that's too little...... Gah!

For medical reasons I had to have my ban temporarily loosened last summer. 2cc in total came out. Over the course of two months, I was refilled back to where I was prior to being un-filled (5.8cc in 10cc band). Problem is.... I don't feel as tight now at 5.8 as I was prior to the unfill. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks. I find that I need to be quite tight in order for the band to be successful for me and it feels close but just not the same as before and I found that odd.

In July I was sitting at 5.8cc in my band. I was rather right but it was where I needed to be. I got really sick and thought I had a slippage. Went to dr- all was good. He removed 2cc to get inflammation down. Since then I have put on weight as I had no restriction. I have slowly been filling back up and am now back at the 5.8cc but I don't feel as tight as I was previously??? I find this strange.

Can 2/10Th's Of A Cc Make That Much Difference?
keona replied to keona's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you all for responding. I have since had some more fill put in and am now at 5.6cc I have a little restriction, but still not enough. When I spoke of portion size before what I was referring to was that when you have restriction versus when you don't you do eat more. It takes a little more food to feel that feeling of fullness as you have more room in your band. And you don't feel full as long as when you are more restricted. I am one person who needs that. I have taken control and I eat very good food (I follow clean eating) and have lost over 100lbs since having the band put in. I am also very, very active. But for me, I do need the band to be on the tighter side restricting me from eating more and keeping me full longer. That is why we have the band in the first place. I will be going in for another appointment to be set back to my original 5.8 as despite the sliming (and I was eating baby size bites slowly) it was working for me. thanks.. -
Hi All, This July I was really sick after having a bad heatstroke and I was vomiting a lot. After which I couldn't keep any food down. I was worried I slipped so I made the trip to see my doctor. All the tests were done and no slippage had occured. He felt I was very inflammed from all the vomiting, so removed some Fluid from my band. I was sitting at 5.8cc even before the vomiting occured, I was very tight all the time. No Breakfast for me before noon and I slimed up most of what I ate at every meal. He removed 1cc and set me at 4.8cc After the inflammation went down and things felt better, I realized I had no restriction at all. I gained 17lbs. Went to a different doctor (my doctor set me up with a more local surgeon to do my fills so I wouldnt have to travel so far). Here is where it got a little wierd. He removed all the fluid from my band and said I only had 4.0cc in there???? (So where did the 0.8cc go????) and added 1cc to set me at 5cc. Still no restriction. Just went back last week. 5cc came out (so no missing fluid that time) and we added 0.6cc to set me at 5.6cc I have restriction, but not enough. My portion size that I can eat is still too much. But here is where I get concerned. If I add just 0.2cc back in, then I am back where I started.... 5.8cc and that's where I was so tight I was sliming everything I ate. So I am not sure what to do. Advice please!!!!!!!!!!

So I just got on to liking Sushi and prior to my last fill, was stillable to eat it. But now, it is rather difficult. I really miss it. I think they should make little mini-bite-sized cali and tuna rolls! Merry xmas all.

So, I had my surgery in February and lost a lot of weight right off the bat. about 25lbs. I have had regular fills (here in my hometown as my surgeon Dr. A set that up for me) and was at 6cc (which was too tight and NOTHING was going down, but everything was coming up!). So I had 0.4cc taken out (putting me at 5.6cc) and food started going down again. This was at the end of October. I now feel tighter again, though nothing has changed. I am now again struggling getting protein and veggies down and have to have about 2 glasses of hot tea before eating. I can't even attempt to eat solid foods before 2pm (usually have a boost drink in the morning) and certainly not without drinking something hot. I usually have homemade soup for lunch (very healthy and hearty) and dinner is protein and veggies. I usually start to eat dinner, things get stuck, come up and then I can get food down. If I were to measure my food, i would have for dinner about a half a chicken breast (bone in variety) and veggies. So probably more than 1/2 to 1 cup. But I struggle to get it down. I have an appt to take a little more fill out as I know it is not good to have every solid meal come back up on attempt. I was going to take it to 5.25cc..... (I was too loose at 5cc). But, no matter what I do, I cannot get the scale to budge. I am down lots of inches and people can really see a change, but I don't understand why the scale has not budged in 4.5 months? I am down 35lbs in 10 months. So equates to 3.5lbs per month... not the 2lbs per week average....... What's wrong??I am getting very depressed about this and am starting to struggle with decisions. I don't know what to do. I am exercising. I walk, swin and am an active equestrian (ride horses - very physical). I ride my elliptical as well. I try to get in a minimum of 30mins exercise every day. Are there some experienced bandsters out there who can offer some advice/help/suggestions to this struggling girl??

Hi All, So, since about a month after my early February surgery (and two fills to date) I have not been able to lose a single pound!!! But.... I am losing inches every month. Is this normal??I have another fill booked in September and I am worried that Dr. A will be like - why is your weight not changing..... why is my weight not changing?? I don't quite understand that? My total weight loss in 6 mos is only 25lbs.... In 6 mos I have lost 1" off chest, 4.5" off waist, 7" off hips and 1" off thigh... Is this to be considered normal? I thought the weight would come off more readily.......

Question about pain at port incision
keona replied to windyridgemom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 2/8 and I too have pain around my portal area. My belly sticks out about an inch or so further on that side. It is uncomfortable to bend over and lifting anything a bit heavy aggrivates. I have been walking and swimming since day 10 and that doesn't bother at all, but tried to exercise on my elliptical last night and that didn't feel so good...... I am glad to hear I am not the only one... -
Hi, My surgeon had me hook up with an awesome nutritionist well before my surgery and I am so lucky to have her.

Hi, I don't know. The hospital gave me the food restrictions for a gastric by pass - the blenderized foods, etc. When I spoke with my surgeon later that night once I got back to the hotel, he said not to follow that. He said to start out small with soft foods. He said for the first day fruit for breakfast and soft foods. So I am following instructions.

Hi, I had my surgery last friday Feb 8th and I too am experiencing the non-stop burping. My goodness!! And the discomfort from the gas is getting better - I can now sleep on both sides. My doctor wanted me on soft solids right from the get go. Day one was a few slices of fruit for Breakfast with half a slice of whole wheat toast, drink for lunch, had cottage cheese and peaches (no sugar) and a little mac and cheese with whole wheat Pasta. Since then, I have had Soup, shepards pie, cream of wheat, oatmeal, eggs. I am just eating small amounts, but the softer cosistency definatley helps. I haven't found anything that won't go down or that I am having problems with. Just taking little bites and using a small bowl with a small spoon/fork and chewing lots. So far so good and down 13.4lbs!
